Shownotes

Alan talks with Dawn Bennett a speaker, Hypnosis trainer, a Master NLP Coach, an Emotional Freedom Techniques Relationship & Intimacy Coach, and holistic healer. Dawn was lead down a path of healing touch when she went to a tai-chi class. She believes that healing touch is one of the most powerful tools for all. When we learn to practice self-awareness and ask for what we want, it allows us to be mindful. Mindfulness has a lot to do with our relationship with our breath. Dawn walks us through some different ways to connect with our breath and ease tensions to release energy blocks. Listeners will be interested to learn about how Hypnosis works and the benefits of it.

Alan Carroll:

Welcome to the mindful you podcast. And today's

Alan Carroll:

guest

Alan Carroll:

Don Bennett, Don has spent over 25 years focusing on the mind

Alan Carroll:

body conversation, how the energies of the body and the

Alan Carroll:

energies of the mind work together. She's written books on

Alan Carroll:

the intimacy and the power of touch very much into neuro

Alan Carroll:

linguistic programming, and hypnosis, self hypnosis, and

Alan Carroll:

supporting people as they develop their skills and

Alan Carroll:

abilities to manage this conversation of the mind and the

Alan Carroll:

body. When you talk about the mind and the body, you bring in

Alan Carroll:

the conversation of mindfulness. So today, we're gonna be talking

Alan Carroll:

with Dawn, about the work that she does, and how her work

Alan Carroll:

applies to also the area of mindfulness. Welcome, welcome,

Alan Carroll:

Don to the mindful you podcast. So I like to find out a little

Alan Carroll:

bit about your journey. And what made you decide to do what

Alan Carroll:

you're doing now. And what realizations did you have that

Alan Carroll:

then motivated you to follow the path that you're following now?

Dawn Bennett:

So I was going to college as I was supposed to do

Dawn Bennett:

for international business.

Unknown:

Right. Scrabble, I like speaking language, right? Yeah,

Unknown:

exactly. International. Sure. Right.

Dawn Bennett:

So um, while I was there, I decided to take a Tai

Dawn Bennett:

Chi class because I was interested in martial arts. And

Dawn Bennett:

a guy came up to me and he was like, you know, I'm reading this

Dawn Bennett:

book called The self esteem prophecy. And it says, if you're

Dawn Bennett:

drawn to somebody, you have something to teach them and

Dawn Bennett:

change their life or something like that. I was like, Oh, nice,

Dawn Bennett:

like a nice pickup line. Great, awesome. But anyway, he changed

Dawn Bennett:

my life. He brought me down to the nursing program where I

Dawn Bennett:

learned therapeutic touch and healing touch, and started

Dawn Bennett:

learning about auras and energy and how we interact as humans.

Dawn Bennett:

And I was like, What is this world I've never heard about,

Dawn Bennett:

right. And so I went to I dropped out of college, I went

Dawn Bennett:

to massage school, and started working as a massage therapist.

Dawn Bennett:

And as I was doing massage, was looking at this mind body

Dawn Bennett:

connection. How come when I touch people's hands are like,

Dawn Bennett:

Oh, my grandmother used to touch me like that. Or I touch their

Dawn Bennett:

hip and like, oh, yeah, football injury, you know, 20 3040 years

Dawn Bennett:

ago, and started doing a lot of work around like Peter Levine's

Dawn Bennett:

work. And that led me into going well, how do I work with the

Dawn Bennett:

emotions and the body? I got an A cranial sacral therapy, doing

Dawn Bennett:

some at emotional release work. And I was like, I want more

Dawn Bennett:

found out about homeopathy. I was like, Well, why not?

Alan Carroll:

Let me find I'm not quite sure. I'm familiar

Alan Carroll:

with hormone apathy.

Dawn Bennett:

homeopathy. Homeopathy is an energetic

Dawn Bennett:

medicine. That's been around for many years developed by Samuel

Dawn Bennett:

Hahnemann. And what it is, is you take a substance, like let's

Dawn Bennett:

say you take a tree, and you titrate it and diluted down in a

Dawn Bennett:

certain process that allows just the energy of the substance to

Dawn Bennett:

be leftover. So if you've ever heard of like the homeopathic

Dawn Bennett:

remedy, arnica is really popular. Arnica Montana is used

Dawn Bennett:

for bruising and for injuries. They use it a lot with what's

Dawn Bennett:

that called? Plastic Surgery, post plastic surgery to reduce

Dawn Bennett:

swelling and such any kind of injury anyway, so homeopathy is

Dawn Bennett:

really about, where's the energetic pattern in the body

Dawn Bennett:

stuck? And how do you shift it using remedies. So there's a lot

Dawn Bennett:

of thriller looking for. There's a lot of controversy about the

Dawn Bennett:

science of the background, right, because it works very

Dawn Bennett:

much on the quantum level. But I wanted something that worked

Dawn Bennett:

with people that they could do themselves, that they could take

Dawn Bennett:

ownership of that they could take power of that I wasn't

Dawn Bennett:

doing to them. And so that's when I ran into Emotional

Dawn Bennett:

Freedom Techniques tapping. That led me into learning about

Dawn Bennett:

hypnosis and neuro linguistic programming. And so that's when

Dawn Bennett:

I started taking all of those trainings and really work I

Dawn Bennett:

became a relationship and intimacy coach, because my whole

Dawn Bennett:

life path is about how do I help people connect to themselves and

Dawn Bennett:

to others in the most true and authentic way possible? And what

Dawn Bennett:

words do we use that take away from who we are that takeaway

Dawn Bennett:

from our connection people? How can we use those words more

Dawn Bennett:

powerfully, more purposefully? How can we ask for what we want

Dawn Bennett:

and what we need? How do we become aware of what we want we

Dawn Bennett:

need first, in order to connect with And with our relationships

Dawn Bennett:

with our friends with our family members with the community

Dawn Bennett:

around us. And that's what led me to write my books as well. So

Dawn Bennett:

that's the kind of short version, my path, wow, right

Dawn Bennett:

into this into this world.

Alan Carroll:

That's great, that's great, I can see the path

Alan Carroll:

of healing, the path of reducing psychological suffering, the

Alan Carroll:

path of I'm in the mindfulness business. And so what you're

Alan Carroll:

talking about also is mindfulness is to be able to be

Alan Carroll:

not seduced by the thoughts that you're thinking, being able to,

Alan Carroll:

sort of rise above and see things and be able to observe

Alan Carroll:

and and heal the body. And touching certainly is a I find

Alan Carroll:

that physical touch is healing. And often people are

Alan Carroll:

uncomfortable with physical touch, which I find a Why would

Alan Carroll:

you be uncomfortable with physical touch you? But for

Alan Carroll:

those people who are uncomfortable with physical

Alan Carroll:

touch, what would you tell? What would you? How would you

Alan Carroll:

recommend them to sort of get on that path you're talking about?

Dawn Bennett:

The biggest thing is self awareness. What about it

Dawn Bennett:

makes one uncomfortable? So is there a belief somewhere or fear

Dawn Bennett:

that you're going to do something wrong? Or that you're

Dawn Bennett:

not a man if you want physical touch? Or that if you're a woman

Dawn Bennett:

and you touch somebody, they're going to perceive it as sexual?

Dawn Bennett:

Like, is there something around that, that is asking to be

Dawn Bennett:

healed? Or perhaps your desire not to touch comes from being

Dawn Bennett:

overly energetically sensitive? We're touching you get maybe you

Dawn Bennett:

get touched all day long by your kids. And now when you go to

Dawn Bennett:

touch other people, it's just it's too much like the capacity

Dawn Bennett:

isn't there? Sometimes our ability to give or receive touch

Dawn Bennett:

comes from cultural expectations. Sure, trauma, as

Dawn Bennett:

you know, as you well know. And so we can explore what is it

Dawn Bennett:

about that? And by the way, it's not wrong to not want touch in a

Dawn Bennett:

certain way. It's just how do you create boundaries and make

Dawn Bennett:

it safe for yourself? And sometimes the first place is

Dawn Bennett:

starting with? How do you accept yourself by touching yourself?

Dawn Bennett:

Like when you're in the shower? Can you actually soap yourself

Dawn Bennett:

down and honor your own body? Or does that even feel

Dawn Bennett:

uncomfortable? And if so, why? Like what have you learned about

Dawn Bennett:

yourself and your body? That you're not even allowed to soak

Dawn Bennett:

down your own arm without hurrying up and doing it?

Dawn Bennett:

Because it's what you have to do to get clean?

Alan Carroll:

Right, right? Do you have a practice of I'll call

Alan Carroll:

it a mindful practice or a meditation practice or a yoga

Alan Carroll:

practice that you do to steal the energy and calm the energy

Alan Carroll:

during the day.

Dawn Bennett:

I have a bunch of them that I rotate through

Dawn Bennett:

depending upon what's happening in my life. So sometimes, my

Dawn Bennett:

mindfulness practice actually happens for me through movement

Dawn Bennett:

often. So yoga and breath work is one big one for me. But

Dawn Bennett:

sometimes for me, it's also I need to go hike in nature as

Dawn Bennett:

fast and as powerfully and as sweaty as I can. Because I have

Dawn Bennett:

so much just the only way that's going to release this is to

Dawn Bennett:

match that energy. So that can actually be one of my most one

Dawn Bennett:

of my best mindfulness practices, is just to be out and

Dawn Bennett:

just work hard in nature, just

Alan Carroll:

nature. I think of Eckhart Tolle, and he talks

Alan Carroll:

about stillness. And he says, If you want to become still hang

Alan Carroll:

out where stillness is, well, where stillness. Stillness is in

Alan Carroll:

the forest, stillness is a nature. And often people I find

Alan Carroll:

are, are inside physical buildings and artificiality. And

Alan Carroll:

they don't realize taking their feet or taking their shoes off

Alan Carroll:

bare feet, grass, get back down to get back down to Mother

Alan Carroll:

Nature. As well, I want to touch on you mentioned breathing, and

Alan Carroll:

breathing is big deal with mindfulness presence, and I'd

Alan Carroll:

like you to share with our audience, maybe even some

Alan Carroll:

breathing techniques that if I'm not really aware of what I can

Alan Carroll:

do for breathing, what are some basic breathing techniques that

Alan Carroll:

I could do that would calm me and make me feel like I'm a

Alan Carroll:

better person?

Dawn Bennett:

Right? And teaching breathwork isn't one of

Dawn Bennett:

my specialties. He's however, just bringing conscious

Dawn Bennett:

awareness to the breath brings us within our body. Okay, first

Dawn Bennett:

thing to do is just notice how you're breathing without judging

Dawn Bennett:

it without changing it. You know, because the first thing

Dawn Bennett:

that often happens if I say, okay, you know, tune in your

Dawn Bennett:

breathing, people go, and they

Unknown:

sit up straight, and they do all the right things.

Unknown:

And

Dawn Bennett:

okay, now I'm gonna take a deep breath. What's

Dawn Bennett:

it, what's your natural state of breathing? If you're really

Dawn Bennett:

stressed, your natural state of breathing might be really

Dawn Bennett:

shallow. That's information. That's beautiful information.

Dawn Bennett:

And if you're really relaxed, if you're ready to fall asleep,

Dawn Bennett:

your breath might be really deep in your belly. That's beautiful

Dawn Bennett:

information. So the first thing I tell people is just just tune

Dawn Bennett:

into who you are, how you are right now. And then once that

Dawn Bennett:

consciousness is there, now, what's your intention? Maybe

Dawn Bennett:

you're exhausted, and you need to go to work. So maybe you want

Dawn Bennett:

your breath work to be fast. Maybe you're trying to calm

Dawn Bennett:

down, or you're desiring to calm down. And so you're slowing your

Dawn Bennett:

breath, you're allowing it to expand and you're back. Or

Dawn Bennett:

you're allowing it to expand downwards in your belly. And

Dawn Bennett:

you're just being with that motion, with the sensation in

Dawn Bennett:

your body noticing. And being curious, where's it going?

Dawn Bennett:

Where's it not going? Oh, isn't that interesting? When I

Dawn Bennett:

breathe, and it feels like it's all going to my right not to my

Dawn Bennett:

left? Isn't that fascinating? I wonder if I can play with

Dawn Bennett:

allowing it to go to my lab. And that, bringing some playfulness

Dawn Bennett:

to instead of here's how it should look. I think it's one of

Dawn Bennett:

the most important things, when you look at your breath, or when

Dawn Bennett:

you look at your own practices. Where am I right now? What do I

Dawn Bennett:

want that to look like instead, in a really gentle, loving, self

Dawn Bennett:

loving way.

Alan Carroll:

So what I hear you talking about, Dawn is the self

Alan Carroll:

reflection, awareness, observation of what's going on

Alan Carroll:

inside your body. And what I find in the work that I do is

Alan Carroll:

that, that that would be embodiment. And the opposite to

Alan Carroll:

embodiment would be dis embodiment. And dis embodiment

Alan Carroll:

is the is the thoughts that you're thinking and trying to

Alan Carroll:

figure out a way to erase those thoughts and allow you to go

Alan Carroll:

back into your body. And so I find that that is a often people

Alan Carroll:

spend their entire life inside their head. They're thinking and

Alan Carroll:

thinking and thinking and thinking and thinking they don't

Alan Carroll:

even know about the breath. Don't even know that you can

Alan Carroll:

breathe and think at the same time. What do you mean you can

Alan Carroll:

breathe and think of the same focus on your breathing? And you

Alan Carroll:

can't be thinking about dinner. And I find that the the thoughts

Alan Carroll:

that you think create a lot of anxiety and tension, tension in

Alan Carroll:

the body. When you think of the word mindfulness, what would you

Alan Carroll:

how would you define in your your world, Dawn, to be mindful

Alan Carroll:

and present in the moment? What does that mean to you?

Dawn Bennett:

What that means is having a level of self awareness

Dawn Bennett:

and self reflect reflection of what I'm doing. How I'm acting

Dawn Bennett:

or being and why. In other words, if I'm in a, let's say,

Dawn Bennett:

I'm in an intense conversation, and someone says something to me

Dawn Bennett:

having a moment of anger, okay, I'm angry. That's okay, I get to

Dawn Bennett:

be angry, that maybe means a boundary got push, or a

Dawn Bennett:

sensitivity got triggered. That's great awareness. How am I

Dawn Bennett:

going to choose to react to that? And not that I always

Dawn Bennett:

react in the best way. Right? We all have our moments where it's

Dawn Bennett:

like, Oops, i i That was that was that and I just reacted fast

Dawn Bennett:

and quick, but also understanding like Okay, so when

Dawn Bennett:

I keep finding myself getting upset, or angry or scared or

Dawn Bennett:

nervous in these ways, what is actually the way that I want to

Dawn Bennett:

come to this and what's the dissonance between what I'm

Dawn Bennett:

doing now and where I want to be? And what's standing in the

Dawn Bennett:

way of me stepping into that way of being is it a belief I have

Dawn Bennett:

is the way I believe I should act. You know what's happening

Dawn Bennett:

in my nervous system, in my breath, in my presence, am I

Dawn Bennett:

going out of my body and just doing whatever I'm whatever

Dawn Bennett:

comes out of mine. mouth without any conscious awareness of how

Dawn Bennett:

it's impacting myself or others? Or am I being really purposeful

Dawn Bennett:

and taking a breath and saying, Wow, that that made me angry

Dawn Bennett:

right now and I need a break, or that made me really angry right

Dawn Bennett:

now. So I'm going to say this as gently as I can, and making

Dawn Bennett:

conscious choice. So that's what mindfulness means to me is that

Dawn Bennett:

it's really easy to be mindful on our yoga mats or in our bed

Dawn Bennett:

at night, it's a lot harder to be mindful. When things when

Dawn Bennett:

there's chaos around us.

Alan Carroll:

Isn't that the truth? Not the truth to be to be

Alan Carroll:

able to not resist the event that's happening in the moment

Alan Carroll:

of now? No, this shouldn't be No, no, no. Yeah, no, it's, it's

Alan Carroll:

a, it's being a screen door rather than a winter. storm

Alan Carroll:

doors screen allows the energy to flow rather than No, this

Alan Carroll:

this should not be, which causes like constipation, I use the

Alan Carroll:

word to people who have become constipated, you have to have to

Alan Carroll:

loosen things up a little bit, let the energy flow a little

Alan Carroll:

bit. And so I imagine in the work that you're doing, the the

Alan Carroll:

flowing of the energy through the system? And where are the

Alan Carroll:

blocks that occur in the system? And how do you remove the blocks

Alan Carroll:

that allow the energy to flow in the system? Is that part of what

Alan Carroll:

are some of the? Am I in the ballpark? Because I'm not all

Alan Carroll:

those things that you are? What are? What are some of the blocks

Alan Carroll:

or barriers or remediation or things you can do to reduce the

Alan Carroll:

tension to open up the blocks to allow the energy to flow through

Alan Carroll:

your body?

Dawn Bennett:

Mm hmm. Well, there's a variety of different

Dawn Bennett:

ways, tools and techniques that one can do. Obviously, I often

Dawn Bennett:

recommend that people get support, because often we can't

Dawn Bennett:

see our own blind spots, or we think we know why we're doing

Dawn Bennett:

something. And as one of my instructors said, if you if you

Dawn Bennett:

think you know why you're doing something, that's probably not

Dawn Bennett:

it. Because you're looking at yourself from yourself. Um, so

Dawn Bennett:

for example, our brain runs strategies, we have a strategy

Dawn Bennett:

of how we do brush our teeth, how we decide to go to work, how

Dawn Bennett:

we decide to avoid doing something, how do we decide to

Dawn Bennett:

communicate to our partner, right, we're only running a

Dawn Bennett:

certain amount of strategies, which is why there's that adage

Dawn Bennett:

of the way you do one thing is the way you do everything,

Dawn Bennett:

right, it's your brain runs certain strategies. So it

Alan Carroll:

turns out again, that went by too fast for me. So

Alan Carroll:

that one, again, your unconscious

Dawn Bennett:

mind runs certain strategies, okay? To help you

Dawn Bennett:

get by in the world in a way that it believes is going to

Dawn Bennett:

keep you safe. And that is going to, you know, keep you in your

Dawn Bennett:

power, whatever it is it's trying to do at that moment.

Dawn Bennett:

Right. So if you learn that safety when you're three, if it

Dawn Bennett:

started learning a strategy, that safety when I'm three means

Dawn Bennett:

means throwing a temper tantrum or making a fuss so people pay

Dawn Bennett:

attention to me. If that strategy never gets shifted, all

Dawn Bennett:

of a sudden, here you are, and you're 50, and you're still

Dawn Bennett:

throwing an adult version of a temper tantrum.

Alan Carroll:

Isn't that the truth? Yeah. And how do you

Alan Carroll:

escape from that that pattern?

Dawn Bennett:

Well, mindfulness is definitely one. A lot of

Dawn Bennett:

unconscious unconscious mind change work, like doing working

Dawn Bennett:

with an NLP coach is very helpful in that hypnosis is very

Dawn Bennett:

helpful in that anything that works with the unconscious mind

Dawn Bennett:

that allows it to shift its idea of how or its strategy of how

Dawn Bennett:

you're getting what you need. Right? Because you can do it

Dawn Bennett:

through your own work to through counselors, and psychologists

Dawn Bennett:

and all that stuff, right? All of those people are very, very

Dawn Bennett:

helpful to bring the level of awareness, the level of

Dawn Bennett:

attention to what is it that you're getting by doing this?

Dawn Bennett:

And what do you want to do instead? So any support system

Dawn Bennett:

that you can get that will help you bring not just the awareness

Dawn Bennett:

of hey, I do this, and I'm, I'm going to try not to be angry

Dawn Bennett:

anymore. I'm going to try not to let my temper get ahead of me.

Dawn Bennett:

But really like what do we need to heal? That's way underneath

Dawn Bennett:

that Sure. Oh, becomes easy to make that choice. That's what I

Dawn Bennett:

recommend for people. It's like get the support that you need,

Alan Carroll:

then how do you dive in? To find out what's

Alan Carroll:

underneath that's motivating the the actions on the surface? What

Alan Carroll:

vehicles can you dive into it?

Dawn Bennett:

Are you telling when you ask about vehicles? Are

Dawn Bennett:

you asking about like, techniques that I would use? Are

Dawn Bennett:

you asking about techniques that your listeners could use? Are

Dawn Bennett:

you asking about concepts helped me understand what you're

Dawn Bennett:

asking? Sure,

Alan Carroll:

sure. You talked about finding out what's

Alan Carroll:

underneath the surface that's motivating the actions on top of

Alan Carroll:

the surface. And so if I'm going to take a dive into that, and I

Alan Carroll:

think of, for example, the hypnosis PhD you talked about

Alan Carroll:

hypnosis is pretty cool. I mean psychology Oh, it's been in

Alan Carroll:

psychology business hypnosis is one of those conversations that

Alan Carroll:

people have. And I know that NLP has conversations about

Alan Carroll:

hypnosis. So let's talk a little bit about what hypnosis means to

Alan Carroll:

you, and how it can apply to our listeners in the audience.

Dawn Bennett:

Great. So hypnosis to me means when I am teaching

Dawn Bennett:

people, I mean all hypnosis is self hypnosis. Let's just start

Dawn Bennett:

there. We put ourselves into trance and we are in trance for

Dawn Bennett:

the majority of the day. Oh,

Alan Carroll:

that's a good one. I want to I want to slow down on

Alan Carroll:

that one. Okay, we put our hypnosis is self hypnosis. And

Alan Carroll:

we live in a we live in a trance. We don't know we're in a

Alan Carroll:

trance, but we're in we're in a trance. So what do you mean by

Alan Carroll:

trance?

Dawn Bennett:

What I mean is a level where we are doing things

Dawn Bennett:

automatically. Okay. And without awareness. Oh, yeah. Okay. You

Dawn Bennett:

know, like, have you ever driven down the road and you meant to

Dawn Bennett:

go to the store, but you accidentally cow path it to

Dawn Bennett:

somewhere else? Home? Oh, wait, where this wasn't where I meant

Dawn Bennett:

to go.

Alan Carroll:

older I get the more that happens. Right?

Dawn Bennett:

Right. Or you drive for miles and you're like,

Dawn Bennett:

Whoa, I don't even remember the last 10 minutes of drive. That's

Dawn Bennett:

trance going in the refrigerator being like, where is the

Dawn Bennett:

ketchup, I could swear the ketchup was here it was right

Dawn Bennett:

here on your face. Like that you're in a trance, you are

Dawn Bennett:

actually so deep inside of your body. There are different levels

Dawn Bennett:

of trance. Of course, when we watch television, like all of

Dawn Bennett:

these things, we're in this trance state. And when we're in

Dawn Bennett:

a trance state, we're open to and our unconscious mind is

Dawn Bennett:

still observing information. That it's creating belief

Dawn Bennett:

systems around that it's acting upon. And so in hypnosis, what I

Dawn Bennett:

do, or what people can do for themselves in self hypnosis is

Dawn Bennett:

they can drop themselves into a level of trance and feed

Dawn Bennett:

themselves the results that they want to see, they redefine who

Dawn Bennett:

they are. So if my goal, for example, I'm going to use like

Dawn Bennett:

lose weight, because it's one that people tend to, you know,

Dawn Bennett:

quickly go to hypnosis for, you know, not only like, do I want

Dawn Bennett:

to lose weight, but what what will I feel differently in my

Dawn Bennett:

body? How will this empower me to be a better human? What will

Dawn Bennett:

I see in my life? That will make me healthier, happier, more

Dawn Bennett:

joyful? Like that's what the unconscious mind wants to learn?

Dawn Bennett:

How am I more safe, more vibrant, more healthy, by

Dawn Bennett:

shifting this pattern? And so as we're, as we're doing hypnosis,

Dawn Bennett:

that's, that's what I'm helping encouraging people to do is what

Dawn Bennett:

strategy or what belief are we running that no longer serves us

Dawn Bennett:

that now we can replace with this new belief of, hey, this

Dawn Bennett:

choice can be really easy. It can be easy and effective for me

Dawn Bennett:

to make this change, because we've all made changes before.

Dawn Bennett:

And so now, as I step into this new change, I can be I am this

Dawn Bennett:

powerful person, I feel healthy. I see myself playing with my

Dawn Bennett:

grandkids in the yard, and the smile on their face as they

Dawn Bennett:

giggle. And I noticed my knee pain is gone, because I've made

Dawn Bennett:

these different choices in how I've eaten. And Isn't it lovely?

Dawn Bennett:

And the mind goes, Yeah, that's amazing. That's exactly what I

Dawn Bennett:

want. And then all of a sudden, losing weight becomes easier,

Dawn Bennett:

because your mind now is focused on all the beautiful things that

Dawn Bennett:

you get to have. And it's much easier than just doing

Dawn Bennett:

affirmations of like, I'm going to lose weight, I'm going to I'm

Dawn Bennett:

going to do this thing and force myself to do it because every

Dawn Bennett:

time we're forcing or fighting. So how do we shift so it's not a

Dawn Bennett:

fight, but it's a both and my mind wants to be there. My body

Dawn Bennett:

wants to be there. My conscious mind wants to be there. And now

Dawn Bennett:

we're all working in synergy.

Alan Carroll:

Sure. Is there some hypnosis techniques that a

Alan Carroll:

person can do without a coach like in front of a mirror or

Alan Carroll:

something where they could be becoming aware of patterns

Alan Carroll:

inside themselves that they weren't aware of?

Dawn Bennett:

So hypnosis and being aware of patterns are

Dawn Bennett:

separate in some in some way. So you'd bring yourself into

Dawn Bennett:

hypnosis to give the suggestions to your unconscious mind to

Dawn Bennett:

create the pattern that you want. So first is okay, what am

Dawn Bennett:

I doing that I don't like? Or what am i Believing that I don't

Dawn Bennett:

like? And then now I bring myself into trance and then I

Dawn Bennett:

give myself the suggestions of what I want to see. So I teach.

Dawn Bennett:

I'm a hypnosis trainer. And so I teach people how to bring

Dawn Bennett:

themselves into self hypnosis to talk to themselves, their higher

Dawn Bennett:

selves and actually create that life that they want.

Alan Carroll:

Can you give me an example of something that I

Alan Carroll:

could do this afternoon to become more or less pattern?

Alan Carroll:

effect or not? You didn't you said it's not. I know Tony

Alan Carroll:

Robbins talks about pattern interrupts and patterns a lot.

Alan Carroll:

Yep. And so, a simple hypnosis technique.

Dawn Bennett:

The part of part of hypnosis is learning what is

Dawn Bennett:

what is it? Like when you're in trance? How do you recognize

Dawn Bennett:

when you're in trance? And how do you get yourself there

Dawn Bennett:

quickly? Yeah. So you'll see people go like, and then just

Dawn Bennett:

like down, right, which I could do to myself right now, but I'm

Dawn Bennett:

not going to.

Alan Carroll:

So you can put yourself yourself, you could put

Alan Carroll:

yourself in hypnosis right now into a trance state,

Dawn Bennett:

I actually already started pulling myself into a

Dawn Bennett:

trance state as as I was talking about hypnosis. So if you felt

Dawn Bennett:

if you like, when I when I teach Hypnosis Training, what I do is

Dawn Bennett:

I start dropping myself deeper and deeper into trance. And so

Dawn Bennett:

as I get into a trance myself, and as I start finding that

Dawn Bennett:

rhythm of the energy in the trance, right, which is also how

Dawn Bennett:

we talk to each other, when we're really engaged. So as I

Dawn Bennett:

start bringing myself into trance, people naturally start

Dawn Bennett:

dropping into trance with me. And so it's similar to

Dawn Bennett:

meditation or relaxation. It's not that much different. So when

Dawn Bennett:

I do deep meditation, it's very, very similar to being in trance.

Dawn Bennett:

And one thing that you can play with is looking straight up,

Dawn Bennett:

like towards the like, keeping your head straight, looking

Dawn Bennett:

straight up towards the ceiling. And then allowing your

Dawn Bennett:

peripheral vision just to expand and just imagine expanding all

Dawn Bennett:

the way around your head. And once you have that, just allow

Dawn Bennett:

your eyes to soften into come back to neutral. And you'll feel

Dawn Bennett:

how much that relaxes you already. And even that

Dawn Bennett:

relaxation can be a trance for some people can be a very light

Dawn Bennett:

trance, through can calm the system, so you can play with

Dawn Bennett:

that. And then once you're calm. Once you feel like you're in

Dawn Bennett:

that like really lovely state of meditation or of hypnosis, self

Dawn Bennett:

hypnosis, then you can start saying, isn't that going to be

Dawn Bennett:

amazing? When I have this? I can envision myself or look at

Dawn Bennett:

money, you know, you said in front of the mirror, look at my

Dawn Bennett:

body in front of me, isn't it beautiful? I can see the

Dawn Bennett:

strength in me just as I am. And want to be lovely when I make

Dawn Bennett:

the choices to eat the way I'm choosing to eat. So that can

Dawn Bennett:

become even more powerful. So I can become even healthier. So I

Dawn Bennett:

can have more strength, more energy more joy.

Alan Carroll:

Is that like reprogramming the beliefs that

Alan Carroll:

you had at that three year old? And you're replacing those

Alan Carroll:

beliefs with a with another set of beliefs that's more in

Alan Carroll:

alignment with what you are intending to have?

Dawn Bennett:

Again? Yep, absolutely. Absolutely. And

Dawn Bennett:

sometimes you have to address the beliefs more directly

Dawn Bennett:

depends upon you know, if you watched your mom for her whole

Dawn Bennett:

life, talk about how fat she was, and how and she was always

Dawn Bennett:

on a diet and she's always trying to lose weight that's

Dawn Bennett:

really differently ingrained in who you are as a person, then if

Dawn Bennett:

you're just like, oh, I gained five pounds. I feel like my

Dawn Bennett:

pants are a little tight, I kind of I will get that off. You

Dawn Bennett:

know, it's a whole different energy of how much awareness or

Dawn Bennett:

work perhaps it may take in order to clear that that system.

Alan Carroll:

You mentioned the word meditation. Meditation is

Alan Carroll:

one of the pillars of mindfulness. Do you have a

Alan Carroll:

meditation? A way of meditating each day? A practice that you

Alan Carroll:

follow?

Dawn Bennett:

Yeah, I go through a streak. I go through streaks

Dawn Bennett:

of meditation. Like sometimes I'm really great. And I'll

Dawn Bennett:

meditate for a couple of months I'll do one of my instructors, a

Dawn Bennett:

yoga instructor who's a master. So my master taught me different

Dawn Bennett:

mudras and so there's times that I sit in, I do mudras for

Dawn Bennett:

certain things. There are times where I do like third eye

Dawn Bennett:

meditations and I'm visualizing or manifesting things. There's

Dawn Bennett:

some times when my meditation is just like, Okay, I need three

Dawn Bennett:

minutes. Okay, quiet mind. Okay, but that that pass, okay, let

Dawn Bennett:

that thought pass. Okay, focus on my breath. You know, in my

Dawn Bennett:

meditation is literally like just to bring me back into my

Dawn Bennett:

body into some place. of functionality instead of like,

Dawn Bennett:

whatever it was happening, that pulled me into the chaos.

Alan Carroll:

That's great. That's great. Meditation is the,

Alan Carroll:

in my, in my business, the managing the thoughts that you

Alan Carroll:

think. And being able to. I'll use the word, I use the word

Alan Carroll:

erase the thoughts, you have the thought you make it disappear,

Alan Carroll:

you have the thought you make it disappear. Every time you you

Alan Carroll:

make the thought disappear. Whatever gravitational effect

Alan Carroll:

that thought was having on your actions is gone. And it's not,

Alan Carroll:

it's not. And so that's a, a, it's called the Sonia

Alan Carroll:

meditation. And Sonia meditation is, you know, it's like Whack

Alan Carroll:

whack a mole, you the thought comes up, whack it, thought

Alan Carroll:

comes out. And you whack it with a with a mantra. And so if

Alan Carroll:

you've done Transcendental Meditation, I've not, but you've

Alan Carroll:

heard of Transcendental Meditation. Yes, TM, it's the

Alan Carroll:

instant, it's a 20 minute practice for the mantra. And it

Alan Carroll:

makes all the thoughts disappear. And you replace the

Alan Carroll:

thoughts with Sonia and Sonia means means nothing. And so you

Alan Carroll:

live in this empty space of nothingness. And mindfulness is

Alan Carroll:

achieving that empty space of nothingness, which we'll call

Alan Carroll:

the space of the being, versus the space of the ego. Ego is the

Alan Carroll:

space of all the thoughts, you can make all those thoughts

Alan Carroll:

disappear. You, you come back into that space of the being,

Alan Carroll:

what what a, what a pleasure being able to meet a, a person

Alan Carroll:

on the path, on that path of transfer of Self Realization, in

Alan Carroll:

their own reality, like you're doing Don, and taking your

Alan Carroll:

knowledge and your skills, and then giving it to other other

Alan Carroll:

people, and earning a living doing it, which is something

Alan Carroll:

that you enjoy doing. And I earn a living doing it. It's a nice,

Alan Carroll:

it's a nice combination. And if I wanted to, if the listeners

Alan Carroll:

wanted to read your books, or they wanted to go to your

Alan Carroll:

website, how would how would they get connected with you?

Dawn Bennett:

Yes. So my website is touch remedies.com r e n e

Dawn Bennett:

dies. I'm actually in the process of rebranding, but that

Dawn Bennett:

will always work. My books are on Amazon. One's called the

Dawn Bennett:

touch crisis, navigating the tricky train of bringing healthy

Dawn Bennett:

touch back into our culture. And the other one's called What

Dawn Bennett:

happened to my friendships, five steps to navigate the social

Dawn Bennett:

distancing crisis. So those are both available on Amazon. The

Dawn Bennett:

second also has audible because you know, people love Audible

Dawn Bennett:

these days. But everything else, you can schedule appointments

Dawn Bennett:

with me, you can email me and everything directly from my

Dawn Bennett:

website. So I would say going to touch remedies.com is going to

Dawn Bennett:

be the easiest way to find me and find everything that I'm

Dawn Bennett:

doing right now.

Alan Carroll:

And you do coaching. I imagine you do

Alan Carroll:

coaching via zoom. So we don't we don't need to actually fly to

Alan Carroll:

Minnesota.

Dawn Bennett:

You don't do you doubt. And I love travel. So if

Dawn Bennett:

you want to do it in person, I'll come to

Alan Carroll:

you. Well, that's great. That's great.

Dawn Bennett:

Absolutely.

Alan Carroll:

Well, I want to thank you for our time. i I'm

Alan Carroll:

going to I appreciate your taking the time to talk and

Alan Carroll:

share your your journey with our audience. It's it's been it's

Alan Carroll:

been fun. And I want and I want to thank you for taking the time

Alan Carroll:

to be on the PATA Palooza and allowing us to be interviewing

Alan Carroll:

you. And I am going to put all the information that you send to

Alan Carroll:

me in my in the notes section. And so that will be sent out to

Alan Carroll:

everybody. So they'll be able to contact you via via the notes

Alan Carroll:

section.

Dawn Bennett:

Great. Well, thank you so much. This has been such

Dawn Bennett:

a learning opportunity and such a pleasure to speak with you.
