Have you ever heard of St Christopher Magallanes? No I hadn’t either: but I have been missing out. St Christopher was a priest, and together with his companions, he was executed by the Mexican government in the 1920s for resisting the state’s attempt to eradicate the Catholic Church from Mexico. Of course the effort utterly backfired:- in its very draconianism the anti-Catholic move showed the very intolerance and disdain for human freedom it criticised the Church for; and while I have little idea of the names of those in government at the time, all the Catholic world now praises God in his name today. Lets pray for a similar effective love of Jesus above all.
