Being a dad is one of the highest callings of a man, but that is getting drowned out by the negative shift toward children. Kids are seen as an inconvenience today and that attitude is affecting too many young men.  Having children is good for us as men. Don't get me wrong, they are hard work, but hard work is what we do as men. One of the best things you can do is go into your fatherhood years with the right attitude. On today's show, we talk about how to have the right attitude and parent with an attitude of offense instead of defense.

It's Not One or the Other

  • Your marriage is the foundation of your home
  • Your children will come and go, but you will stay together
  • The strength of your relationship as a couple is one of the safest things you can do for your kids
  • As men, we need to take the lead in making sure our marriage stays strong
  • Keeping your marriage strong helps to balance the family the right way

The Importance of Security

  • The best thing you can do for your kids' security is to have a great marriage
  • The number one parenting advice for dads is to love their wife
  • The Wisdom of One Wife
  • Loving your wife will teach them how to love and how to expect love
  • This doesn't mean you have to be perfect, but you do set the foundation
  • Your steady influence will be one of the strongest influences on your children
  • Your daily faithfulness to your wife and family builds a foundation of security that will pay off for generations in your family

The Power of Your Voice

  • Fathers have the most influence on their children in how they speak to them
  • The power of praise
  • The power of focus
  • The power of tone
  • Coach tone - you are better than this; Great Job
  • Discipline tone - I'm disappointed, don't do that again
  • Respect tone - What did you say to your mom? What do you think you are doing?
  • Fun tone - Picking and playing, fun and laughing
  • Open tone - tell stories about your mistakes and be open about imperfections
  • Loving tone - they need to hear you express love
  • You influence your children with the power of your voice
  • This is the power of fatherhood
