Episode 4 — The Ultimate Galveston Embarkation Day Guide

Before You Leave Home

  • Online check-in opens 14 days before sailing for most guests
  • Diamond, Platinum, and suite guests: check-in opens 16 days before sailing
  • Check-in opens at midnight Eastern Time on the opening day
  • Earlier check-in completion = better odds at an early arrival window (some sailings board as early as 10:30 AM)
  • Have ready: boarding pass (printed or screenshot), passport/government ID, credit card for Sign & Sail
  • Checked bags may take 2–3 hours to reach your cabin for most guests — pack medications, electronics, a change of clothes, and Day 1 essentials in your carry-on
  • Exception: Diamond, Platinum, suite guests, and Faster to the Fun (FTTF) purchasers can drop luggage directly at their cabin door
  • Tag checked bags the night before with the luggage tags from your Carnival documents

Parking at the Galveston Terminal

  • Jerry’s personal recommendation: EZCruise — approximately $20–$25/day (~$140–$175 for a 7-night cruise)
  • Off-site lots: ~$10–$12/day with shuttle — book ahead, fills up in summer
  • Confirm your terminal (Terminal 1 or Terminal 2) before you drive down
  • Stay near the seawall or in League City the night before if coming from more than a couple hours away

At the Terminal

  • Security screening — faster than airport security, shoes stay on
  • Check-in: boarding pass, ID/passport, Sign & Sail account setup
  • Confirm your card and daily spending limit at check-in

First Hours Onboard

  • Complete your eSMUST safety drill through the Hub app as soon as you board — required before departure
  • Skip the crowded Lido buffet line: explore other Lido deck venues and bars with little to no wait
  • Drink packages (Cheers, etc.) do not start until Day 2 — you’ll pay individually for Day 1 drinks
  • Cabin access: ~1:30 PM standard, sooner with Faster to the Fun
  • Use the quiet first hour or two to walk the ship, find your dining room, and locate your muster station
  • Galveston sailaway: be on the Lido deck for departure through the channel and out into the Gulf

Next Episode

Episode 5: What to Pack (and What to Leave Home). Jerry breaks down what Carnival already provides, what’s worth bringing, and what most people pack that they absolutely didn’t need.
