Georgia and Japan have had a long international relationship for business with over 600 Japanese businesses in the state employing 35,000 people.
This has led to many years of intercultural relations between Japan and the US in Georgia for shared culture events. Recently, a traditional Japanese temple bell has established between a small rural town in Hiroshima called Konu which has created connections as well as its own Jimmy Carter Center like the one in Georgia. The town even grows JImmy Carter's brand of peanuts and has a street and train station named after the president who has visited the small town twice.
In this talk, Vice President Jessica Kennett Cork of Community Engagement and Corporate Communications of YKK co. USA, joins us to talk about the amazing Peace Bell that traveled from Shoganji temple in Miyoshi (previously Konu), Hiroshima all the way to Georgia with President Jimmy Carter and back again.
The story is incredible and now they are raising funds to build a traditional Japanese temple bell tower to put into action the beautiful Japanese bell Jimmy Carter was presented with in 1989 when the center was first opened. Jimmy Carter has been very active in his lifetime creating ties of peace around the world and this bell tower will be built in his honor at a special commemoration to coincide with his 98th birthday in October of 2022.
