-:
Join me here each week to find out how.
-:
The truth will set you free, but first we need to be clear on what our truths really are.
-:
Here are some of my big truths from my past.
-:
I love gathering groups of people together.
-:
I love hosting friends and family for dinner.
-:
I love pub gardens in the summer.
-:
I love pub firesides in the winter. I love festivals. I love comedy clubs. I love birthday parties. I love weddings.
-:
I love weekends away with my friends.
-:
But this was really only part of the truth.
-:
I loved those activities because it felt like they gave me permission to drink.
-:
Sure there was dressing up, there was preparing things, there was hanging out with my friends as well but also this was always alongside side a drink.
-:
I loved the energy of groups, large or small, talking, eating, listening to music, dancing and, of course, drinking.
-:
And for me, always always drinking more than was good for me or indeed good for anyone else, I suppose. The truth now.
-:
I still love gathering groups of people together, but it's not for any of those previously mentioned activities.
-:
It's for coffees, brunches, long distance walks, retreats, and, yes, actually still weekends away.
-:
My new truth is that I love gathering smaller groups together or meeting people 1 to 1.
-:
The activities have changed and also the time of day matters more now.
-:
I used to love a night out.
-:
My new truth is that I prefer a morning, an afternoon or a day out.
-:
If you'd have told me a few years ago that these would be my truths now I would not have believed you.
-:
It hasn't been an overnight realisation, it's come with time.
-:
It's all been a part of choosing first to drink less, then to experiment with going alcohol free for a period of time, then
-:
actively choosing this life, this growth, this development, this version of me.
-:
All of this doesn't mean I don't enjoy large groups from time to time.
-:
This summer I'm finding myself on stages at well-being festivals across the UK talking to audiences about drinking less, choosing
-:
an alcohol free life and the life that's available to us when we choose to make impactful changes.
-:
What's the truth that will set you free?
