Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

Welcome back to another episode

of the daily Bible podcast.

3

:

This one's a little different

because this time I'm solo.

4

:

There's no pastor rod with me today.

5

:

He is away with his bride.

6

:

As they are celebrating

their wedding anniversary.

7

:

I believe it's their

60th wedding anniversary.

8

:

July 12th, 2008, 16 years ago.

9

:

So think back, where were you?

10

:

11

:

Uh, what did that, uh,

what were you doing?

12

:

I know for me, I was, I was married and

my wife and I were here in the Dallas

13

:

area had just come back up here from.

14

:

The hill country actually spent

a year down there and we were

15

:

up here to, to pursue seminary.

16

:

So I had started at Dallas seminary

and thought I knew everything

17

:

when I really knew nothing.

18

:

And I feel like I'm gonna look back 16

years from now and say, you know what?

19

:

I thought I knew everything

when I really knew nothing.

20

:

So.

21

:

Uh, hopefully not, but we'll see.

22

:

We'll see.

23

:

Anyways, where were you?

24

:

25

:

What were you doing?

26

:

Pastor rod and his broad Kristin we're

getting married, which is exciting.

27

:

And I looked up on this day in history.

28

:

Uh, and, uh, on, in 2008 they actually

share a wedding university with one

29

:

of the members of the black eyed peas.

30

:

So there you go, pastor, rod, he

got married in Pasadena there.

31

:

I don't know where you and Kristen got

married, but they got married in Pasadena.

32

:

So you and.

33

:

Uh, one of the members of the black

IPS, you guys share an anniversary.

34

:

So congrats on that.

35

:

And a few other things happened, but

nothing massively, nothing as notable as

36

:

pastor, rod in Kristin getting married.

37

:

We're sure.

38

:

Thankful for them.

39

:

Thankful for their marriage,

thankful for their family.

40

:

He had, uh, just glad that they get

some time away, some other things

41

:

in case your curiosity has been

wet now by this history lesson.

42

:

What else happened on July 12th,

:

43

:

That began on July 12th.

44

:

In 1976, July 12th, 1976.

45

:

So there go, hopefully, uh,

there's no feuding going on.

46

:

In that family right now, but, uh,

th,:

47

:

Uh, the rolling stones performed their

th, back in:

48

:

Uh, and then I think everything else is

going to just predate anybody who might

49

:

be listening to this at this point.

50

:

So there you go.

51

:

There's some facts about July 12th,

but we're thankful for pastor, rod and

52

:

Kristen glad they get some time away.

53

:

Uh, to celebrate their marriage 16

years of God's faithfulness there.

54

:

And I know that, uh, They're

looking forward to many more.

55

:

Should the Lord.

56

:

Uh, Terry in his return and allow them to

enjoy those years, work grateful for them.

57

:

Thankful for all that pastor, rod

does for us with leading worship and

58

:

everything that he does for our student

ministry and just I'm grateful for

59

:

everything that he does just behind the

scenes here in the offices from the.

60

:

Kind of administrative side of things

and, and a lot of other things that

61

:

he just has a particular giftedness

in that, uh, That complements

62

:

areas that I'm not as strong in.

63

:

And so he's a great teammate.

64

:

I'm glad that God brought

them into my life.

65

:

And I know that Kristen is glad that

he brought him into her life as well.

66

:

So happy anniversary, pastor,

rod, and Kristen hope you

67

:

guys are having a great time.

68

:

I know they came by a crumble cookie

this morning, which is right by

69

:

our office, which is dangerous.

70

:

Can I just tell you guys it's.

71

:

It's dangerous that

there's a crumble cookie.

72

:

That's now.

73

:

Within, it's not even walking distance.

74

:

It's like you could shuffle there, like

you could, you could army crawl there

75

:

if you needed to it's it's that close.

76

:

And today they're giving away free

chocolate chip cookies, which this is

77

:

a Friday that I'm recording this on.

78

:

So.

79

:

Uh, it doesn't really count because

you can't go there today and ask for

80

:

one as you're listening to this on

Sunday, because they're going to say,

81

:

well, that was on Friday, but anyways,

today on Friday, giving away free

82

:

chocolate chip cookies and not just the

small ones, like these are full blown,

83

:

full sized chocolate chip cookies.

84

:

And on top of that, they're just a little

bit under baked, which makes them perfect

85

:

because they give them to you in the bag.

86

:

They're still warm and you kind

of need a spoon to eat the cookie.

87

:

Like w that's when you know the cookies.

88

:

Good.

89

:

If you need a spoon to eat

the chocolate chip cookie.

90

:

Game over.

91

:

They win.

92

:

So my family showed up at the office.

93

:

We walked over there.

94

:

We got our cookies too.

95

:

I think the Cogans are

doing the same thing.

96

:

I know Kelly got a cookie too.

97

:

And it's, it's just cookie city over

here and it's going to be dangerous.

98

:

It's going to be dangerous.

99

:

Thankfully, they charge a lot

for their cookies normally.

100

:

And so we're just not gonna be

able to afford to go over there

101

:

and get cookies all the time.

102

:

But if they do free cookie days,

That's going to be a problem.

103

:

That's going to be a problem.

104

:

Just letting everybody know

that's going to be a problem.

105

:

But as you listen to this

today, it's not Friday.

106

:

It's Sunday.

107

:

So happy Sunday, everybody.

108

:

Glad that you are with us

at church or planning to be

109

:

there, or you've already come.

110

:

Uh, to church and you are

now on your way back home.

111

:

We, well, maybe not, maybe you're

setting up for what's coming

112

:

because what's coming up this week.

113

:

It comes to Bible.

114

:

Church is vacation Bible,

school VBS, so excited for it.

115

:

So actually today after church, We're

going to be transforming founders

116

:

classical academy from that into a

jungle, it's going to be a totally

117

:

different place when our kids show

up for VBS on Monday night and we

118

:

are going to have a great week.

119

:

It's going to be awesome.

120

:

I heard numbers from mark today.

121

:

Uh, on Friday, that is, I

think we have 80 or 85 kiddos.

122

:

Registered for this event, it's going to

be so great, such a great opportunity for

123

:

us to impact the community, but that's

what we're going to be doing on Sunday.

124

:

We're going to be setting up

our gymnasium for our first.

125

:

Uh, official as a church, at least VBS

at compass Bible church, north Texas.

126

:

So if you're part of that team,

Uh, thank you for all the hard

127

:

work that you've been doing.

128

:

If you're not part of that team, but you

want to stick around and serve on that.

129

:

Uh, to help us.

130

:

I'm sure we could use the extra

hands Sunday, getting that done.

131

:

So happy Sunday.

132

:

And a happy VBS prep day as well.

133

:

All right.

134

:

Well, let's jump into our

Bible reading for the day.

135

:

And we are going to be

in the book of Micah.

136

:

The book of Micah, uh,

the, the whole thing.

137

:

So this is another one of the

situations with this particular

138

:

Bible reading plan where you like.

139

:

Really.

140

:

We had a Psalm that was like

three verses and you're giving

141

:

us seven chapters of prophecy.

142

:

Oh.

143

:

Okay.

144

:

Okay, fine.

145

:

Let's do it.

146

:

Uh, and, and we're going to do it.

147

:

Let's do it.

148

:

Uh, Micah.

149

:

Okay.

150

:

Who was Micah?

151

:

Well, Micah was a prophet

to the Southern kingdom.

152

:

Uh, and when we talk about the prophets in

the old Testament, a lot of times we talk

153

:

about two different classes of profits.

154

:

You have the minor profits and the major

profits, and it's not about their worth.

155

:

It's not about the

quality of their content.

156

:

It's really, it's not even so much about.

157

:

Whether they prophesied during a

significant time or an insignificant time.

158

:

It's not that at all.

159

:

It has to do, and this sounds

simple and it is simple.

160

:

It has to do really with

the size of the book.

161

:

So Micah is a shorter one of

the profits, not the shortest,

162

:

but one of the shorter profits.

163

:

And so he's a.

164

:

A minor prophet in that sense that he

prophesied to the Southern kingdom.

165

:

He was a contemporary of Isaiah

prophesying around the same time.

166

:

And his prophecy spanned.

167

:

Uh, the rains of Jotham.

168

:

Uh, king Jotham who we've read about

recently a has a, not a good dude.

169

:

A has.

170

:

Okay.

171

:

And then Hezekiah.

172

:

Uh, so Micah is prophesying

during those three men.

173

:

Uh, the, the reigns of those

three Kings in Judah there.

174

:

And, uh, and he's prophesying during a

time of relative peace and prosperity.

175

:

Uh, generally speaking,

now it has had some.

176

:

Some turmoil that that comes upon him.

177

:

But, uh, by and large,

there's not a lot going on.

178

:

Uh, that's, that's problematic,

at least for Jotham and Hezekiah.

179

:

Again, he has, has his own issues.

180

:

The book itself kind of alternates between

judgment and the, the forward-looking

181

:

anticipation of deliverance and especially

the, the millennial kingdom here.

182

:

So.

183

:

Uh, as we get into the book that the,

the name Micah means who is like the Lord

184

:

it's, uh, uh, Uh, a word it's a name.

185

:

That means who is like the Lord, who is

like, Uh, Yahweh and that's going to come

186

:

out in Micah chapter seven, verse 18.

187

:

So when we get to Micah chapter

seven, verse 18, he includes a plan

188

:

of his own name in his prophecy.

189

:

There.

190

:

But let's jump into Micah

chapter one, Micah chapter one.

191

:

Uh, for seven verses here comes

God's judgment upon Israel.

192

:

Uh, God is going to bring

judgment for their transgressions.

193

:

Verse five, all this for the

transgressions of Jacob, for

194

:

the sins of the house of Israel.

195

:

What is the transgression of Jacob?

196

:

Is it not Samarria?

197

:

And so, again, we're talking

about, uh, the sins of the Northern

198

:

kingdom, but then he also is

going to say, but you know what?

199

:

It's not just some area.

200

:

It's also the south.

201

:

Look at this.

202

:

He says in verse five, And what

is the high place of Judah?

203

:

Is it not?

204

:

Uh, that's, that's a staggering sentence

because the high places remember

205

:

were places of idolatrous worship.

206

:

Zion or Jerusalem was a mountain.

207

:

It's the mountain of the Lord.

208

:

It's a high place.

209

:

It's an exalted place that was meant to

be the place of the worship of Yahweh.

210

:

But instead it would become the place

of the worship of false gods and idols.

211

:

And so Micah begins talking about Israel,

but he quickly shifts to Judah here.

212

:

And he's going to say, you know, what the

sins of Israel had now infected Judah.

213

:

In fact, that's what

he says in verse nine.

214

:

And he says, her wound is

incurable and it has come to Judah.

215

:

Some areas wound.

216

:

The idolatry of Israel, it was sealed.

217

:

Their fate was sealed and you

know what, it's incurable.

218

:

And unfortunately, man, They're seeing

their idolatry has come down into Judah.

219

:

It's reached the gate of my people.

220

:

Verse nine, all the way down to Jerusalem.

221

:

He goes on here to talk about some of

these other key cities that God was going

222

:

to judge here in Judah inclu, including

lucky in verse 13, the Kesha was a key

223

:

defensive outpost for Judah, but it

was also apparently the gateway for the

224

:

sins of Symeria to infiltrate Judah.

225

:

It was through Lakeesha that it came.

226

:

And so.

227

:

He talks in verse 13, he says,

harness the steeds to the chariots

228

:

inhabitants of the quiche.

229

:

It was the beginning of sin

to the daughter of Zion.

230

:

So again, it was the gateway.

231

:

Through the quiche came the sin that

spread eventually into Judah verse 14.

232

:

Uh, Judah was going to end up

paying tribute that his taxes to

233

:

her invading foes, the Assyrians,

and that's going to happen during

234

:

a hazardous rain specifically.

235

:

And she's going to forfeit the income

that she had enjoyed from the towns that

236

:

would fall under enemy control during a

hazardous rain is we're going to see in

237

:

a few days here and things are horrible.

238

:

They're just bad.

239

:

You've got some Maira.

240

:

You've got, uh, you've got the, the

Syrians that are attacking Judah there.

241

:

And so the king has, is going

to reach out to the us Syrians.

242

:

And he's going to say, Hey, if I

pay you, can you come to my defense?

243

:

And they're going to do it a little bit,

but they're going to kind of deceive.

244

:

It's just a mess.

245

:

And that's what the

prophet is talking about.

246

:

There.

247

:

Verse 14, Jude is going to

end up paying tribute to the

248

:

invading foes, the Assyrians.

249

:

Um, and, and it's not going to be good.

250

:

Verse 15, then the word of the Lord or,

or the word for, for conquer of rather.

251

:

And verse 15 is the same as the

word dis possessor dispossessed.

252

:

So in verse 15, it says

I will bring a conquer.

253

:

I will bring a dispossessed to

you, inhabitants of a Manasseh.

254

:

The glory of Israel shall

come to Agilent now.

255

:

Uh, there's some things going on here

that the dispossess her is going to

256

:

come to Judah who had once dispossessed

the Canaanites of their land.

257

:

And now they're going to be

dispossessed of it themselves.

258

:

And so her Nobles, the Nobles of

Israel are going to flee to a city

259

:

called agile, agile, and may sound

familiar to you because it was

260

:

David the first true, the first good

king of Israel after Saul there.

261

:

Right.

262

:

God's king, the king that represented

the future deliverance that the second

263

:

David would come from this line and

BD the greater David Jesus in the

264

:

future and the millennial kingdom.

265

:

Anyways, the Nobles just like

David had fled from salt.

266

:

They're going to flee to Agilent,

just like David had fled to Agilent

267

:

and taken refuge there to avoid.

268

:

Uh, the threat of Saul.

269

:

So Micah chapter one, he's coming at

Judah coming at them, warning them

270

:

about the things that are coming chapter

two, then verses one through five.

271

:

Those who once oppressed others and

took land that was not theirs would

272

:

have the same land taken from them.

273

:

And they would be humbled

before their enemies.

274

:

So now he's, he's coming at the

inhabitants of Judah for some of

275

:

the things that they had done.

276

:

They had oppressed the needy,

they had taken things, not theirs.

277

:

They had not cared societaly for the

people that were were under their charge.

278

:

And Mike is saying the same.

279

:

Thing's going to happen to you now.

280

:

Uh, Mike, a two, six through 11, then.

281

:

It depicts the spiritual decay.

282

:

Verses six and seven, the

rejection of God's word.

283

:

And God's prophet verses eight

through 10 that the wicked oppressing

284

:

in the vulnerable and make Israel

an unwelcome place for them.

285

:

And then verse 11, the people want

to profit to just tickle their ears.

286

:

They don't want to hear from Mike anymore.

287

:

They don't want to hear from,

from God's prophet anymore.

288

:

They just want the profits that

are going to tell them good things.

289

:

And so Mike is saying, this is not a

good thing that your state is like this,

290

:

the state of the nation is like this.

291

:

Then in verses 12 through 13, Micah

turns a corner in and gives us the

292

:

first little bit of a glimpse of hope.

293

:

Like I said, there's kind of this.

294

:

Uh, cyclical pattern of

judgment and yet deliverance.

295

:

Uh, that that comes in this book.

296

:

And so in verses 12 through 13,

deliverance is going to come

297

:

still, even in spite of all this,

there is going to be a deliver.

298

:

This section concludes with the prophet,

looking forward to the shepherd deliver.

299

:

Who's going to regather the people.

300

:

And lead them out as they're triumphant

king, the shepherd imagery would

301

:

have called the mind the Exodus.

302

:

They would have thought about the Exodus

because in Psalm 78, 52, Psalm 78 52.

303

:

It says then he led his people

out like sheep and guided them

304

:

in the wilderness, like a flock

talking about the Exodus time.

305

:

So they're looking forward

to this deliverance.

306

:

That's going to come as

they're going to be oppressed.

307

:

It's also possible here.

308

:

So what is the fulfillment of this?

309

:

That that's, that's the question here.

310

:

Right?

311

:

So.

312

:

So two possibilities.

313

:

Number one, this is looking forward

to Jesus in the millennial kingdom and

314

:

Jesus rules, the ultimate shepherd king.

315

:

That's where I land.

316

:

I think that's what Micah

is anticipating here.

317

:

It's also possible though, that there was

a short term fulfillment of this as well.

318

:

That applied to, uh, what took

place when, when snack room.

319

:

Came in and, and attacked and,

and he, and the Assyrian armies,

320

:

elite siege to Jerusalem.

321

:

And yet, you know, it has a Kaia

prayed in Hezekiah, went to the

322

:

Lord and the Lord spared Israel,

spare Jew, Judas, spare Jerusalem.

323

:

At that time.

324

:

And has a CA ended up leading the

people out after they had been besieged.

325

:

So it's possible.

326

:

That was a short time fulfillment

of this, but I think the ultimate

327

:

anticipation of Micah to.

328

:

Uh, 11th or 12th, 13, there is looking

forward to the millennial kingdom

329

:

when Jesus is the one that leads

out the people out of the breach

330

:

that he's the ultimate deliver in

that day is obviously yet future.

331

:

All right, Micah chapter three.

332

:

Micah chapter three, verses one

through four, Micah gets in here

333

:

and he's back to judgment and

back to the theme of judgment.

334

:

So in verses one through four, he

denounces the selfish and corrupt rulers

335

:

of God's people who had turned the people

into a source of profit for themselves.

336

:

And that's why you pick up on some

of the cannibalism imagery here.

337

:

Uh, that he talks about here with

tearing the skin from the PA.

338

:

It's it's graphic in the

flesh, off their bones.

339

:

They eat the flesh of my people.

340

:

This is not literal.

341

:

This is spiritual, the spiritual abuse

from the religious leaders there.

342

:

In Micah's day and he

saying, this is wrong.

343

:

What you're doing here?

344

:

Versus five to eight.

345

:

He denounces there.

346

:

This.

347

:

The selfish and corrupt profits.

348

:

So not only the rulers, but also

the, the profits that, that were

349

:

prophesying to God's people only

messages that would benefit them

350

:

and, and bring curses to those that

would refuse to play their game.

351

:

So the profits were there.

352

:

You know, if people line their pockets,

they would give them a good word.

353

:

We see that today.

354

:

Don't we in a health, wealth

and prosperity churches.

355

:

Man.

356

:

If, if you get, if you tie then your

God's blessing is going to be upon you

357

:

and, and you're going to have blessings

return your time, 10 times on you, right?

358

:

I mean, This is not, uh, something

that, unfortunately this is not

359

:

something that is left the church

and, and those that didn't do it, man.

360

:

They got curses from these profits.

361

:

And so what does Micah say says,

you know what, you're going to be

362

:

darkened in your understanding.

363

:

Eh, but contrast that Mike,

his message was one of power

364

:

by the spirit of the Lord.

365

:

That's verse eight, but as from me.

366

:

I am filled with power with the

spirit of the Lord and justice.

367

:

And my, and so Mike is saying.

368

:

Your false profits there.

369

:

There look at them.

370

:

They're exposed for who

they are, but, but hear me.

371

:

Because my message comes from God.

372

:

Chapter three chapter four, then.

373

:

The prophet continues

again, coming at Judah.

374

:

And now we're going to come back to a,

uh, uh, anticipation of deliverance here

375

:

and in the mountain of the Lord is the

ESV heading, says, this is all about,

376

:

this is an anticipation of the millennial

kingdom verses one through five.

377

:

By contrast to what he's been talking

about with the corruption in the.

378

:

The abuse of the leaders and

the profits by contrast, the

379

:

millennial kingdom is coming.

380

:

So even under the threat of the impending

judgment, there's a hope for the faithful.

381

:

That's what Mike is doing here.

382

:

He's holding out hope for those.

383

:

That would be faithful.

384

:

And, and that's what he's depicting for

us here in this great text in verses

385

:

one through five, with, with the Jesus,

the ultimate judge, the ultimate ruler,

386

:

the greatest prophet in he's going

to be the one verse three to judge

387

:

between many peoples and decide to

spews for many strong nations, far away.

388

:

They're going to come to him.

389

:

They're going to beat their

swords into plow shares.

390

:

There's not going to be any more violent.

391

:

So again, looking forward to the

millennial kingdom, verse 10.

392

:

Note here in chapter four, that in the

midst of an otherwise positive section,

393

:

God identifies Babylon as the nation

that would take Judah into exile right

394

:

now on the current scene, the threat

is Syria in us, Syria, and even Israel.

395

:

But not Babylon, but the prophet looking

forward to what would would take place

396

:

eventually, not in, in looking forward

in a good way, but, but anticipating

397

:

prophesying about what would take place.

398

:

He identifies that the one that

is going to take them away is

399

:

going to be Babylon in verse 10.

400

:

You shall go to Babylon.

401

:

Just an interesting thing to note here.

402

:

In the positive section.

403

:

Uh, Micah slips in here.

404

:

Hey, it's going to be Babylon.

405

:

And I wonder what the original

recipients would have thought about that.

406

:

They were thinking Babylon, who is that?

407

:

Uh, serious Syria, but Babylon.

408

:

Really Babylon.

409

:

Anyways that slips in

here verses 11 through 13.

410

:

Then the Lord is going to deliver

his people from Babylon, right.

411

:

Four, 10.

412

:

The second half says he's going to, to.

413

:

To say there, you shall

be rescued verse 10.

414

:

The Lord will redeem you from

the hand of your enemies.

415

:

And so the Lord is going to

deliver his people from their.

416

:

But the greatest deliverance from

all enemies would still be in the

417

:

future at Armageddon and that's

depicted in verses 11 through 13.

418

:

He's looking forward to the final battle.

419

:

Uh, in, in the final time when

Israel takes her stand against all

420

:

the nations and, and that's the

battle depicted in verses 11 through

421

:

13, there of Micah chapter four.

422

:

Cross-reference to that.

423

:

If you get a moment to Zechariah

14, 14, Zechariah 14, 14 also talks.

424

:

About this same battle.

425

:

That's my chapter four.

426

:

All right.

427

:

We're, we're making our way

through Micah chapter five.

428

:

Then we get into chapter five

and here in chapter five.

429

:

You have Micah address, Judas, present

monarchy, which was failing and they're

430

:

about to be sent into exile king lists.

431

:

And so that's what we see in

verses one through six of.

432

:

Uh, chapter five there he's, he's

coming back now, away from the

433

:

millennial kingdom, coming back

to what's going on there in Judah.

434

:

And he's saying, listen,

this group is, is failing.

435

:

Their, their present monarchy is failing.

436

:

They're about to be sent

into exile king list.

437

:

And listen for a time.

438

:

That would be their reality.

439

:

That would be the reality until,

until this other ruler would come.

440

:

And here we go.

441

:

Here's Christmas time again, Micah

five verse two, but you, oh, Bethlehem

442

:

of Ephratah who were too little

to be named among the clans of

443

:

Judah from you shall come from me.

444

:

One who is to be ruler in

Israel whose coming forth is

445

:

of old from ancient of days.

446

:

And so coming on the heels of

the millennial kingdom, coming

447

:

back to the present time going,

how are we going to get there?

448

:

We're going to need the right kind of.

449

:

Ruler to get us there.

450

:

And here, Micah anticipates that ruler,

this ruler is going to be the one

451

:

who's born from the ancient of days.

452

:

He's going to shepherd the

people and provide great

453

:

comfort and security to them.

454

:

Verse four.

455

:

He talks about that he

himself is going to be there.

456

:

Peace verse five and

even armies and enemies.

457

:

Like a Syria are going to be no match for

his great and future deliverance that he's

458

:

going to work for the people in verse six.

459

:

So here again, Micah is pointing

just like we've seen in Isaiah

460

:

chapter nine and chapter seven.

461

:

Now in Micah five that this

future deliver this future ruler.

462

:

It's going to be the one that's going

to give the ultimate deliverance.

463

:

Short-term man, they are going into

exile, but Micah and the other prophets

464

:

and God through his prophets, wanted

the people to be thinking about the

465

:

ultimate deliverer that they needed,

which was not a military delivered, not a.

466

:

Not a political deliver,

but a religious deliver.

467

:

They needed this ancient of days.

468

:

One that was coming.

469

:

To the people.

470

:

There's one born in Bethlehem

of a froth, too little to be

471

:

named among the clans of Judah.

472

:

So Mike is eagerly anticipating

that they're in chapter five.

473

:

Then chapter six, the scene shifts back

to the present again, as the Lord takes

474

:

a stand in, in what really amounts to

a courtroom scene here in chapter six.

475

:

So the Lord is going to be

that the plaintiff here.

476

:

And as the plaintiff, he's gonna

make his case against Judah

477

:

and Israel's unfaithfulness.

478

:

And that's where we're going

in chapter six, the Lord is

479

:

saying, here's my indictment.

480

:

Here's what's happening.

481

:

Here's the problems.

482

:

Here's the sin.

483

:

And so in verses one through five,

he recounts the Lord does all that

484

:

he had done for the people of, from

taking them from Egypt until now.

485

:

And then he says, what have I done

to you to provoke such disobedience?

486

:

What have I done?

487

:

Verse three.

488

:

What have I done?

489

:

How have I wearied you answer me?

490

:

So he's, he's pleading for them to say.

491

:

Where's the counter evidence to this.

492

:

Here's the evidence against you?

493

:

What are you going to show me?

494

:

Where am I wrong in?

495

:

This is what he's saying.

496

:

There.

497

:

And verses six through eight, Micah

speaks for the Lord, anticipating

498

:

the question from the people of

how they might write their wrongs.

499

:

And he makes this conclusion that's,

that's found in, in verse eight.

500

:

There.

501

:

In other words, he's, he's going to

say, look in the first couple of verses.

502

:

It's not about your feast and sacrifices.

503

:

Don't don't go back there.

504

:

We've already seen that the Lord detests,

when we just go through the motions.

505

:

Instead, what does he want?

506

:

He wants their heart.

507

:

It's just Micah 6, 8, 1 of the most

famous verses aside from Micah five, two.

508

:

In this book, he says

he has told you, oh man.

509

:

He has told you what is good and what

does the Lord require of you, but

510

:

to do justice and to love kindness

and to walk humbly with your God.

511

:

Justice kindness or mercy, and to

walk humbly with your gut, this

512

:

is what is produced from a state.

513

:

That is, that is an internal, uh,

position of rightness before the Lord.

514

:

This is not about going

through the motions.

515

:

This is only possible from a heart.

516

:

That is true before God.

517

:

That's what God desires here.

518

:

So Mike is saying.

519

:

Uh, the Lord has given us indictment.

520

:

You're probably wondering

what should we do?

521

:

Here's what you need to do.

522

:

He's already told you what to do.

523

:

And then the chapter

ends in nine through 16.

524

:

Uh, with the threat of the

judgment, this is the judgment.

525

:

This is the rod with which God will,

will punish the nations, punish his

526

:

people specifically here, not the

nations, his people, and the culmination

527

:

of this is all found in Micah six.

528

:

16 where it says for you have

kept the statutes of Omari.

529

:

Uh, one of the evil Kings of the north

in all the works of the house of Ahab.

530

:

Again, one of the evil Kings in the

north, you have walked in their counsels

531

:

that I may make you a desolation

and your inhabitants, a hissing.

532

:

So you shall bear the scorn of my people.

533

:

And so he's saying to the people

of Judah there, look, don't,

534

:

don't think that you're okay.

535

:

Just because you're not the Northern

kingdom, you've walked in their

536

:

ways and you're going to suffer

as they have suffered as well.

537

:

Finally, we get to chapter

seven, chapter seven, as the

538

:

book comes to its conclusion.

539

:

Uh, we get in here in the first six verses

the prophet pronounces woe on himself.

540

:

Just like Isaiah.

541

:

Right?

542

:

When, when Isaiah said

woe, woe is me, woe, am I.

543

:

That's what the profit does here in

these, this section and like Habakkuk, he

544

:

laments the current situation wearing it.

545

:

It feels like there's no one

righteous left among the people.

546

:

So he opens a verse.

547

:

One.

548

:

Woe is me.

549

:

And then he says, look the

God, the parish verse two.

550

:

And there's no one upright among mankind.

551

:

And they all lie in, wait for blood

each Hans, the other with a net.

552

:

If you read the opening chapter of

Habakkuk, it sounds very similar to that.

553

:

That the profits are boasting, man.

554

:

This is such a depraved in horrible

situation, where are all of the

555

:

righteous people, but in verses seven

through 17, unlike Habakkuk, instead

556

:

of despairing like Habakkuk did there,

the prophet Micah hit resolves to wait

557

:

in trust on the Lord to deliver the

people as he had promised he would.

558

:

So he says, okay, God.

559

:

I know your deliverance is coming.

560

:

I'm going to trust you in that that's

here verses seven through 17, much

561

:

of this looking forward to, uh, the

effects and the realities of the

562

:

millennial kingdom here in this section.

563

:

Uh, in verse seven, but as for

me, I will look to the Lord.

564

:

I will wait for the God of my salvation.

565

:

My God will hear me.

566

:

And so Mike has got a great.

567

:

Uh, level of patients here and willingness

to trust in an, a weight in the Lord.

568

:

And that's because his final conclusion.

569

:

Uh, at verse 18, who is a godlike?

570

:

You, there it is.

571

:

That's his name?

572

:

Micah who is a godlike.

573

:

You, there it is 18 one.

574

:

That's his name?

575

:

Micah.

576

:

And then he goes on, he says, pardoning,

iniquity, passing over transgression

577

:

for the remnant of his inheritance.

578

:

He does not retain his anger forever

because he delights in steadfast love.

579

:

He will again have compassion on us.

580

:

It tread our iniquities underfoot.

581

:

You will cast out all our sins

into the depths of the sea.

582

:

Uh, this is essentially the gospel from

the lips of an Israelite prophet living

583

:

700 years before that baby from Micah

five, two would be born in Bethlehem.

584

:

How cool is that?

585

:

The book ends with such an amazing picture

of God's grace and mercy forgiveness,

586

:

pardoning, iniquity, and transgression.

587

:

How was that going to happen for,

for Micah and the people of Judah?

588

:

Same way.

589

:

It happens for you and me only

through Jesus Christ and his

590

:

atoning sacrifice on our behalf.

591

:

That baby, that deliver that was

going to come and work at deliverance.

592

:

That even Micah didn't know what

that would look like and you and I

593

:

get to know what that looks like.

594

:

Cause we're on the backside of the

cross, such an awesome concept.

595

:

Let's pray.

596

:

And then we will wrap up this

episode of the daily Bible podcast.

597

:

God, we thank you for this deliver that,

that he has come, that he was born,

598

:

that he was born in accordance with

your word, as you said, he would be.

599

:

That he did come.

600

:

And he did come from Bethlehem

of a froth that he worked.

601

:

Uh, deliverance for us

that, that we needed.

602

:

Uh, loader for our sins to be forgiven

that he died on the cross for our

603

:

sins and he rose again so that we can

live with him forever in the future.

604

:

What a glorious reality that is Lord, keep

us from the presumptive sins of Judah.

605

:

Keep us from thinking.

606

:

As the church that we're somehow

immune from God's judgment

607

:

because we are your people and we

belong to, to you through Christ.

608

:

Keep us holy God.

609

:

Keep us following you.

610

:

Keep us mindful.

611

:

What does the Lord require of you?

612

:

Well, he's already told us to

walk humbly to love justice,

613

:

to do mercy, to love kindness.

614

:

These are things that we

should be embracing and

615

:

embodying as a church as well.

616

:

So Lord.

617

:

We pray that you would keep us that

you'd protect us again against these

618

:

presumptive sins and that we would find.

619

:

Much joy in serving you all the days

of our lives until you return it.

620

:

So we pray this in Christ's name.

621

:

Amen.

622

:

I keep it in your Bibles tune

in again tomorrow for another

623

:

episode of the daily Bible podcast.

624

:

And we'll catch you then.
