Shownotes
One of the challenges of building a real estate business is determining whether prospective hires have work ethic and personal discipline. How can we discover this in an interview? How can we create systems that automatically hold people accountable? Why is tracking so important? On this episode, our member spotlight guest is Angel Garcia. He shares on his team, the lessons he’s learned, and how he runs his business.
I put tracking measures in place, and found that the best way to grow my business is to do less of what’s not working and do more of what is. -Angel Garcia
3 Things We Learned From This Episode
- Work ethic is something a team member should already have (05:34 - 06:00)
Work ethic is not something we can teach or train someone easily. When we’re hiring, it’s good to find out what someone’s base productivity is without our accountability structure. If their baseline is already good, they will plug into our systems and flourish.
- Good systems automate accountability (08:11- 08:58)
When we have a system with accountability built into it, we don’t have to chase people down. With something like a scoreboard tracking productivity, the system will actually show who is lagging behind and hold people accountable on its own.
- Track your numbers before making strategic decisions (22:21 -23:40 )
Success actually starts with tracking our numbers. So before we try a new system, we have to focus on getting our tracking measures in place first. This will inform our next decision.
Growing and managing a successful real estate business isn’t about having dozens of systems that are marginally successful. We have to get good at doing the foundational stuff at a high level. It’s about running a few systems extremely well and going deep on them, instead of going wide on a lot of things. As leaders, we should build accountability into our businesses and lead by example. When our people see a high level of dedication in us, they will follow.
