Some days the stress finds you before your mind even catches up. A comment, a delay, a notification, and suddenly your breath is shallow and your whole afternoon feels tense. This episode is for anyone who's tired of chasing calm like it's a destination they never quite reach.
Intuitive healer Allison Carmany joins host Niharika to unpack what finding calm actually means when life keeps throwing chaos at us. She shares why meditation isn't about silencing your thoughts, how your body's physical symptoms are often intuition trying to get your attention, and why coming back to peace again and again, not staying calm forever, is the real practice of nervous system regulation.
Allison Carmany is an intuitive guide and meditation teacher based in Orlando, Florida, working with meditation, sound healing, and body-based practices to help people reconnect with their nervous system and intuition. She offers private readings through her platform, Soulful Evolution.

00:00:07 Niharika: most of us know when you're moving through your day, checking off the tasks and did something small happens, a comment, a delay or a notification, and suddenly your body knows it before your mind does. Your chest tightens, your breath gets shallow, and the quiet hum of stress becomes the background noise of your entire afternoon. What else? That moment could unfold differently. What else? The way we meet daily chaos could actually change how our bodies hold it.
00:00:46 Niharika: Welcome to Inner Peace, BetterHelp. I'm Niharika, and this is a space where we slow down long enough to notice what our minds and bodies are trying to tell us. Today we are exploring what it really takes to find calm when life doesn't pause for us, when the chaos isn't going anywhere, and when find and when peace feels like a destination. More like a practice we keep forgetting to return to. Today. Joining me is Allison. Welcome, Allison. It's so great to have you here.
00:01:27 Allison Carmany: Yay. I'm so excited to be here.
00:01:31 Niharika: Well, to start with, when people talk about finding inner peace, there's often this assumption that it means clearing your mind completely or reaching some permanent state of calm. What is the common or most common misconception you see people bring to this idea?
00:01:56 Allison Carmany: Well, this is a thing is that what happens is the more we're in daily life, there's a lot of chaos and a lot of energy coming at us and a lot of things that are happening, and we are connected into a lower vibration, right? And so then we, our mind goes into all that lower vibrational stuff of things that are happening all at once, right? And so a way to kind of escape out of the static of what's happening on a daily basis is to get more connected into ourselves. And there's many ways to do that. But one way is through meditation. And that really doesn't stop the thoughts from coming, but it more makes you aware of the thoughts that are there. So you can clear the stuff that's there so you don't aren't stuck in a looping thought or negative emotion that isn't even yours. It's connected to your friend. But so it's just a way to stay more aware and, but we're not going to stop the thoughts. We're going to choose better thoughts.
00:03:06 Niharika: Yeah, that's an important distinction. And so, uh, not fixing ourselves, but learning to be with ourselves, as you said. And it takes the pleasure of meeting everything to be quiet or resolved before we can even feel at peace.
00:03:25 Allison Carmany: So yeah, I mean, this is the thing as long as you're living on this earth, you're going to have challenges, you're going to have heartbreak, you're going to have negative events that happen, people, relationships, all of that. Like people. The only way like people think they're so enlightened, but you can be totally enlightened on the top of the mountain. But the moment you have to deal with your friends, your family and all that, that's when the real triggers happen for people. And so we have to find a way to be able to handle triggers and handle situations that are challenging. And that's really by it's through our nervous system, calming our nervous system, getting connected back into ourselves and back to source. And a great way is again, is through meditation.
00:04:15 Niharika: So when someone Fields constantly pulled in different directions, restless even when they are still. What do you think is really happening beneath the surface? What may be the root cause?
00:04:31 Allison Carmany: Well, one of the things is, is that all those lower emotional states. I want you to think of them as, I don't know if, you know, the listeners have seen that scale of scale of consciousness. Okay. And what it is, is like at the, at the scale, it's a vibrational number. So at the lowest end of the scale, there's shame, there's guilt. Um, even anger is a higher vibration. And then we can get to love and joy and authenticity as the highest vibrational state. But basically what happens is we're usually at this lower bandwidth unless we're conscious enough and aware enough to raise our vibration, right? So the restlessness, the frustration, all that stuff is what you're connected into, hooked into, and maybe addicted to emotionally feeling. So, you know, you get in your car and you're used to, uh, you know, nine o'clock you're going to work road rage and dealing with that. So you're used to having that adrenaline of that emotion. And so, you know, now you don't get in your car at nine a m now you got to find it through your kids or another situation. So it's like we're addicted to these lower emotional states. But first step is always awareness to know that we're in a lower emotional state and that we always have a choice to choose something else.
00:05:50 Niharika: So true. And I think we all miss out on the first step itself, the awareness. I don't think we notice enough to be aware of what we are feeling, because we are in the busiest loop of days and just going through the vicious cycles. That makes so much sense.
00:06:07 Allison Carmany: Yeah. And, and the thing is, is a great way to create, create more awareness is through sitting with yourself. Because the problem is, is that without an observer. So one of the things that meditation does is it helps you to create an observer. So then you're not it's not Alison that's in her life. It's like there's an observer, there's an observer watching her. What I mean by that is there's a difference between somebody having anxiety and someone being aware that like having anxiety attack and then somebody being aware that they're having anxiety. So it's two different things, right? So when you're stuck in it, you can't get out. You're just the like reaction into it, right? When you can put that little awareness above as the observer, well then you have a choice, right? But if not, you're just emotionally hijacked to go into these lower emotions that pretty much ninety nine percent of the world experiences without much awareness.
00:07:11 Niharika: Oh, yeah. I think it's like we have learned to override the signals, uh, along the lines, and the body just keeps trying to get our attention louder and louder until we until we finally listen and notice that.
00:07:27 Allison Carmany: Yeah, that has to do with the soul. Okay. And I feel like, you know, so when we came in, there was a soul contract and we descended down instead of ascending, we descended down into consciousness. And through that we went into a state of like forgetfulness. And through this is understanding, okay, there's going to be lessons I'm going to have to learn. There's things that I'm going to have to overcome in this lifetime. And like your soul is a little knock, a little knock on the door. Okay? Hey, listen, you're off track. You're off track. And then if you're really out of alignment energetically, what happens is you get hit over the head and you get, you know, you job, you lose your job, the relationship ends. You know, devastating things start to happen because y you're off track and your soul, you told your soul, hey, when you came in, I want, you know, to these lessons, these things to happen. And so you have to get back on track energetically to really be tuned in to, to get back on track. And there's, there's always going to be someone talking about their life breaking down when you're off track.
00:08:47 Speaker 4: So that makes.
00:08:49 Niharika: Sense. Yeah. And so someone moving through an average day, maybe. Maybe juggling work, family, their own thoughts with a suspension or lack of peace actually show up. Like what are the small signs people might actually miss?
00:09:13 Allison Carmany: Well, the thing is, is when you're more connected to yourself and source, and I'm going to use the name source as another name, divine intelligence, oneness, God. You know, we have a lot of different ways to interpret that same energy based upon our culture, right? And so as we are disconnected from the source of energy, we feel less on purpose. We, we get, you know, be more likely to get in conflict with our partner, more likely to have these daily frustrations and stuff. I'm not saying that these aren't going to happen. It's just how are you going to relate to what's happening? You know, because we can have a story that's positive or we can have a story that's negative.
00:10:04 Niharika: So when. We mistake endurance for strength. Strengthen. That's where it all goes wrong. And. And in the meantime, the body is all is holding all of it waiting for us to notice.
00:10:23 Allison Carmany: Yeah. So the thing is, is that one of the things that I feel like in this world, we have to start to tap into our bodies and be conscious about our nervous systems because they could be overloaded, they could be adrenaline. And then we're just overreacting to every single thing rather than becoming more conscious. And I feel like intuition lives in our body. And so a lot of times we want to, our mind wants to override that intuition. Oh, everything looks good on paper. This person looks great, looks great. But is it feel right to you? Does it feel, you know, good or not good? You know? And that's where it's like, okay, well, I don't know why I'm feeling bad. You know, we get these physical symptoms in our body. It's our intuition signaling us, hey, you're out of order and helping us to get in alignment. So a lot of times physical symptoms are actually a good thing because they're letting us know something's wrong in our life. And ninety nine percent of the time it's connected emotionally to something happening.
00:11:37 Niharika: And if someone is ready to start creating more moments of calm in their life, not as an escape, but as a real practice, what would you suggest they begin with?
00:11:54 Allison Carmany: The best practices. Yeah, I feel like. First, it's taking an inventory of like what's out of alignment, you know, because so much of it, we're in denial. We're just like going through life, like denying that these things are messed up. Well, like, if we want to create a healthier relationship, we're going to have to realize that we have a problem to fix the problem. Right. So it's through that awareness. And then I love meditation. And it could be using guided meditation. You could just put on music in the background. Um, I love sound healing. Um, but some different body things like chiropractic or acupuncture, basically anything that helps you to get more connected to your body, to that source of energy. Because the source of energy, God universe, divine intelligence is a frequency, but we're at a certain vibration and frequency, and sometimes our energy is really low. And we have to raise that energy in that vibration to connect back into that source of energy to hear it. So we're always connected, but we need to hear it.
00:13:16 Niharika: Yeah. Yeah. And I think it's not about carving out, um, an hour every day. Like it's, it's remembering, you can pause even for a breath and that pause and that noticing matters. It is noticing that you are connected and you have to listen. And what our soul or source is saying to us, that is so important. So true.
00:13:46 Allison Carmany: Yeah. You know, it's just we're so busy in our daily lives. And we think that that busyness is getting us farther along. But I feel that the objective of this life is through the soul, right? And so it's the soul's evolution. But if you're not connected, the soul and the voice of the soul, then you are disconnected in life, right? Because it's not chasing the relationship or the money or the material desires in which we've been taught all of that external things. Validation. It's can you tap in to listen enough to what your soul is trying to communicate so you can meet that person that you need to meet or be be connected with the next move or the next thing you need to do. You know, I feel like we're all guided because the soul knows what your future is, right? It already knows what your mission is, what you came in, and you can be guided by it if you're listening to it. But it takes a little bit to get tapped into listening. And, um, we don't listen with our five senses. When we descended down into this world, we took that vow into the five senses. But those are not the senses that we listen to. We listen through our clairs, which is what we hear from spirit, what we might like, see what we might feel or know. And those are more difficult to get in touch with if you're just going about life, um, you know, phonetically with whatever you got to get to accomplish. Yeah. And um, at one point I would be like, start my day. I'd be like, oh, let me get to work. And like, you know what? I'm in the wrong vibration. So anything I put out today is not going to go right. So how do I need to get more connected right now so that I can be more efficient with my work and the stuff I put out is going to have a bigger impact.
00:15:50 Niharika: So true. I think we all do have that. I think we do notice that like in our lives, we have so many moments, like we do something, it will go wrong. And the moment it goes wrong, we feel like I knew it. But just as you said, we have to know to avoid all the things we get into our mind. So that being busy, so forth.
00:16:17 Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:16:19 Allison Carmany: It's it's just our society in general. Um, that kind of keeps us in survival and we have to get out of emotional survival and physical survival to be able to listen to the soul, to be guided.
00:16:37 Niharika: So true. And, uh, in this era we are living in, I think we almost forgot to live the day. We are just surviving through the schedules and the tasks to check off a list. And that's we almost forgot to live. Live a day or live a moment.
00:16:58 Allison Carmany: Yeah, and tomorrow's not promised. So you know. So much of the time that, you know, we could our end, our life could end earlier than we were expecting. And we didn't even get to live or enjoy our life.
00:17:15 Niharika: So true. And even when someone starts to build this practice, life has a way of pulling us back into the old patterns. How do you help people stay connected to this sense of peace? When things are, things get hard again?
00:17:37 Allison Carmany: So. Like I said before, we're not going to get away from challenges. So the more we try to avoid pain, the more it's going to increase. So just knowing that we're going to go through things and first, just when something negative happens, instead of me reacting, maybe I do react in the moment, right? But instead pulling back and not as a victim to what's. What's happening to me? Why is this happening to me? Instead, seeing that this is happening for me and my ego might not like it, but that this is something my soul needed to have happen in order for this next thing. And a lot of times what we see as negative events are actually the catalyst for someone's awakening.
00:18:30 Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:18:31 Allison Carmany: There's so many people awakening on the planet right now, um, to, there, to these, these psychic abilities, these intuition now and don't know what to do with it. And it's just being able to more tune in to listen. You're think of yourself as an instrument. It's like you need tuning just like a guitar. And tuning requires an everyday ritual and practice in order to do that.
00:18:59 Niharika: Yeah. And coming back itself is the practice because not getting it first time or staying calm forever, but just coming back again and again, as you said, tuning. That's the key.
00:19:15 Allison Carmany: Yeah. It's the more the more that you are feel that you're connected with that divine intelligence, that source of energy, and that when things come at you that are challenging, that you use that source of energy to assist you so that things don't have to be so effortful in your life. It's like it's through connecting with that, that you're sent messengers, that you're sent angels, you're sent all different spirit guides people to assist you with, with things that you're going through. And, um, we have personal.
00:19:58 Speaker 4: Guides.
00:19:59 Allison Carmany: That can really that are there to assist us. But the problem with that is that we have free will. So unless we ask the guides to assist us, they can't assist in emergency situations. I've seen them, you know, assist to help someone navigate, you know, their life like car accident or something. But on a day to day basis, they're not able to intervene.
00:20:25 Speaker 4: Mhm. Oh.
00:20:28 Niharika: Um, Allison, thank you so much for sharing this with us today. It's so great to have you here. And if listeners want to continue this conversation or connect with you, where's the best place to find you?
00:20:43 Allison Carmany: So soulful. It's soulful. Evolution dot com. That's my website and that's the best way to connect with me. I also do private readings, which you can book on my website.
00:20:55 Niharika: Great. Thank you for sharing that. And thank you for joining us again. It's so great to have you here.
00:21:01 Speaker 4: Yes, it was amazing. Thank you.
00:21:04 Niharika: And listeners, there's no quick fix for the noise inside us or around us, but there is a way to meet it differently, to notice when your body is asking for your attention, to pause even when it feels impossible. That moment you give to yourself, that breath, that small return to prisons. That's where the peace lives. Not in the absence of chaos, but in how you hold inside of it. That. Take that with you. It's enough.
