Bowling Alone is a relevant examination of the level of American civic engagement in community life. Through years of research, the author gathered a lot of statistics and case studies that vividly illustrate the downward trend in American civic engagement in community affairs, and the phenomenon of declining social capital. The author analyzes not only the causes, but also the negative repercussions of the decline of social capital. On top of this, he offers suggestions for how to revive social capital. This classic, although published in 2000, nevertheless provides insight into the future and predicts social phenomena occurring in America today.
