The September Reset: What Are You Carrying Into the Next Season?

Law Days & Lattes | Episode 108

September has a way of making life feel like it is starting over. Summer winds down, school begins, fall activities return, and suddenly the calendar is full again.

But what if September is more than a return to routine? What if it is an opportunity to pause, reset, and decide what you actually want the next season of your life to look like?

In this episode of Law Days & Lattes, Sidney Wheelan takes us through five questions designed to help us be more intentional with our time, our families, our plans, and our future.

In This Episode

1. What needs to come off your calendar?

Not every obligation deserves a permanent place in your life. Sidney encourages listeners to consider what they are continuing simply because they have always done it or because someone else expects them to.

2. What needs to go back on your calendar?

Making room for yourself matters, too. Whether it is exercise, time with friends, travel, reading, a date night, or simply a quiet cup of coffee, the things that bring you joy deserve a place on the calendar.

3. Is your family prepared for the unexpected?

September is a good time to review the plans that protect the people you love. Sidney discusses powers of attorney, wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, important documents, and the importance of having a plan before you need one.

Estate planning, she reminds us, is not simply about death. It is about life and making sure the people we love are not left trying to figure everything out during an already difficult time.

4. What are you teaching the next generation?

Children learn by watching us. They see how we handle money, disappointment, hard work, relationships, generosity, and decision-making. Legacy is not simply what we leave behind. It is what we leave in people.

5. What season are you entering?

Life changes constantly, and every season brings new opportunities. Whether you are raising a family, building a business, caring for aging parents, preparing for retirement, starting over, or simply wondering what you want next, there is no wrong answer.

A new season does not mean your story is ending. It may mean your story is getting better.

Your September Reset

Sidney offers five simple challenges for the week:

  • Take one thing off your calendar that no longer deserves your time.
  • Put one thing back on that brings you joy.
  • Have one important conversation with someone you love.
  • Teach someone younger than you something you know.
  • Ask yourself: “What do I want this next season of my life to look like?”

The goal is not to simply become busier. It is to become more intentional about what matters, what stays, what goes, what you are building, what you are protecting, and what you are ready to pass on.

Looking Ahead

The September series continues over the next few weeks with conversations about getting organized, putting your financial house in order, planning for your business and future, estate planning, legacy, and thinking intentionally about the next chapter of your life.

Because you do not have to wait until January for a fresh start.

Sometimes, a new season is all the reset you need.
