Shownotes

This episode explores how we're all born with natural body wisdom that gets buried under years of diet culture and external rules.

It empowers listeners to reconnect with their innate ability to know what, when, and how much to eat by trusting their body's signals instead of following external guidelines.

Important Points Covered

Natural Body Wisdom Exists - You were born knowing when to eat and when to stop, but diet culture taught you to ignore these signals in favor of external rules

Your Body Still Knows - Despite years of override, your body continues to send signals about hunger, satisfaction, energy needs, and which foods serve you best

Trust vs. Rules - People who maintain healthy relationships with food trust their body's signals rather than following rigid meal plans or calorie counting

Reconnection Process - Start by asking your body "What do you need right now?" before eating, focusing on physical sensations rather than mental rules

One Meal Experiment - Begin rebuilding this connection by practicing body awareness with just one meal per day to avoid overwhelm

Start small this week by choosing one meal where you pause and ask your body what it needs. Listen to the physical sensations and try to honor what your body is requesting. Notice how it feels different to eat what your body wants versus what you think you "should" eat.

Key Takeaway

You don't need another expert to tell you what to eat - you need to remember and trust the body wisdom you were born with. Your body has been trying to communicate with you all along; you just need to start listening again.

You Already Know What Your Body Needs

Hey there! Welcome to today's motivational episode, and I am so excited to share this with you.

After Monday's episode about bad advice versus good advice, I've been thinking about something that I really want you to understand at a deep level.

You already know what your body needs. You already have the wisdom. You already possess the internal guidance system that can lead you to food freedom.

I know that might sound impossible right now, especially if you feel confused about food or like you can't trust yourself around eating. By the end of this episode, you're going to remember something you've forgotten—that you were born with incredible body wisdom.

Today I'm going to help you reconnect with that wisdom and show you why trusting yourself is the only way to create lasting change.

The strategy

Here's what I want you to understand: You came into this world with perfect body wisdom.

As a baby, you cried when you were hungry and stopped eating when you were full. You didn't count calories, you didn't worry about portion sizes, you didn't have "good" foods and "bad" foods. You simply ate when your body needed nourishment and stopped when it didn't.

So what happened to that wisdom?

Diet culture happened. You were taught to ignore your body's signals and follow external rules. You learned to eat by the clock rather than by hunger. You learned to clean your plate rather than stopping when satisfied. You learned to label foods as "good" or "bad" without considering how they made you feel.

Here's the incredible news: That wisdom is still there. It's just been buried under years of external rules and diet mentality.

Your body still knows:

When it's hungry and when it's satisfied

Which foods give you energy and which ones drain you

When you're eating from emotion versus eating from hunger

How much food feels right for your unique body

When you need rest, movement, or nourishment

The problem? You've been taught not to trust it.

What if you started trusting it again?

What if you started asking your body what it needs rather than following another meal plan?

What if you started paying attention to how different foods make you feel rather than counting calories?

What if you started eating when you're actually hungry rather than eating by the clock?

This doesn't mean throwing all structure out the window. This means reconnecting with the internal structure you were born with—your body's natural ability to regulate itself.

Here's what people who trust their bodies do differently:

They eat when they're hungry, not when they think they should eat. They stop when they're satisfied, not when their plate is empty. They choose foods based on how they want to feel, not on what a diet tells them. They handle emotions with appropriate tools, not just food. They trust their body's signals without overriding them with rules.

This is what intuitive eating really means—eating in harmony with your body's actual needs.

Real-world application

So how do you start reconnecting with this wisdom?

This week, I want you to try this experiment:

Before you eat anything, pause and ask your body: "What do you need right now?"

Not your mind—your body. Put your hand on your stomach. Take a breath. Listen.

Maybe your body says "I need something warm and comforting." Maybe it says "I need something fresh and energizing." Maybe it says "I need fuel because I'm genuinely hungry." Maybe it says "I don't actually need food right now—I need a hug."

Start with one meal a day. Maybe breakfast. Ask your body what it needs and then try to honor that request.

Notice how it feels to eat what your body is actually asking for versus eating what you think you "should" eat. Learn from this. Learn the difference.

Here's what you might discover:

Your body craves vegetables more than you expected

You feel better when you eat regular meals

You naturally want less food when you're eating what truly satisfies you

Your energy is more stable when you listen to your body's timing

Food becomes less interesting when you're not fighting against your natural signals

This doesn't require perfection. Some days you'll override your body's signals, and that's okay. This is about rebuilding the connection.

Listen, I need you to really hear this: You are not broken. You don't need to be fixed. You don't need another expert to tell you what to eat or when to eat it.

You need to remember what you already know.

Your body has been trying to communicate with you this whole time. It's been sending you signals about hunger, satisfaction, energy, and what feels good. You've just been taught to ignore those signals in favor of external rules.

Those rules have failed you, haven't they? Because they can't possibly account for your unique body, your unique life, your unique needs.

Your body can.

This week, start small. One meal. One moment of asking "What do you need?" One opportunity to trust the wisdom you were born with.

You already know what your body needs. You just need to start listening again.

When you do, when you start trusting that internal wisdom, everything changes. Food becomes simpler. Eating becomes peaceful. Your body becomes your ally.

You've got this. I believe in your wisdom completely. And I can't wait to hear what you discover when you start trusting yourself again.

Now go listen to that incredible body of yours. It has so much wisdom to share with you.

I'll talk to you soon!
