Speaker:

Welcome back to The Dwelling

Place from Entrusted Ministries.

2

:

I'm Stephanie Hickox, and we see a pattern

in scripture that God has always desired

3

:

to be our dwelling place, and we believe

that when we understand that it transforms

4

:

our dwellings with our families.

5

:

If you're just joining us, listen to

our prep episodes or you can click

6

:

on the link in our show notes to take

you to our free printable resources,

7

:

particularly the start here document.

8

:

In the last episode, we looked

at the opening chapters of Job.

9

:

And they concluded with Job saying

he wished he had never been born.

10

:

He was heart Wrenchingly honest.

11

:

After he had lost all 10 of his

children, all of his possessions and his

12

:

flesh was being tormented with sores.

13

:

At first, his friends were compassionate

with him, but after a week of

14

:

silence, Alfa somewhat gently said,

we know that sin causes suffering.

15

:

Surely there was something you did wrong

to cause this today's section opens with

16

:

job defending himself against that attack.

17

:

In verse 6 22, he basically says,

tell me exactly what I did wrong.

18

:

If you're so sure that

this is a result of sin.

19

:

It's interesting to me that

throughout this book, his friends

20

:

are so set on accusing him of

sin, but they're quite general.

21

:

At first they don't know

what kind of sin it could be.

22

:

And that reminds me of some incredibly

useful advice I was given once and I think

23

:

it's particularly helpful for motherhood.

24

:

It's that when we hear the

enemy's voice accusing us, it

25

:

will be general and condemning.

26

:

But when the Holy Spirit is working in

our hearts, it's much more specific.

27

:

Let me give you an example.

28

:

The enemy might make you feel guilty

and discouraged and feel that you're a

29

:

terrible mother and you can't exactly put

your finger on what you've done wrong.

30

:

It just feels like you are

missing the boat with everything.

31

:

But the Holy Spirit might gently

press upon your heart you need

32

:

to put your phone down more and

look your children in the eyes.

33

:

The season isn't going to

last forever, and you need to

34

:

choose what's most important.

35

:

When you're feeling discouraged

or convicted, ask yourself, do

36

:

I feel the Lord calling me to

make a specific change here?

37

:

And if you're just feeling overwhelmed

that you feel in everything, pray

38

:

to the Lord to give you clarity.

39

:

And honestly, it might just be hormones

or lack of sleep, or the enemy, and

40

:

you just need to give it a little time.

41

:

Romans eight tells us there is

therefore now no condemnation for

42

:

those who are in Christ Jesus.

43

:

You can kick those condemning thoughts

to the curb throughout the Bible.

44

:

We're told to meditate on scripture to

take its words and embrace them, but I

45

:

have to confess sometimes when I come to

a book like Job, I get kind of confused.

46

:

Are these words I embrace or not?

47

:

Is this a true statement or not?

48

:

We know that job's friends, were in the

wrong in this book, so it's interesting.

49

:

Even as job wrestles with his suffering

and his friends wrongly accuse him

50

:

much of what is said, it doesn't seem

to be quite right, but then I'll see

51

:

some verses that seem like they are

speaking good and true words about God.

52

:

It's confusing to understand what are

the truths we're supposed to embrace

53

:

and what is just provided for us,

as an example that sometimes people

54

:

speak foolish or hurtful words.

55

:

Really no one speaks the truth all

the time except the Lord himself.

56

:

I'm so thankful for his example to be

our ultimate guide, and often Jesus's

57

:

words in scripture can give us clarity.

58

:

But I wanna take this opportunity

to encourage you to weigh everyone's

59

:

words in your life and certainly mine.

60

:

I hope the things I say make you open

your Bible for yourself and decide

61

:

if you think they're true or not.

62

:

Maybe there's an application I've made

that didn't sit quite right with you,

63

:

and although I am humbly seeking to honor

God with all I say, i'm fallible and

64

:

I want you to question what you hear.

65

:

I can think of times I've gone on coffee

dates or conversations I've had with

66

:

great friends where initially they said

something so encouraging that feels

67

:

truly helpful, and then later they say

something that just doesn't sit right

68

:

with me and I need to take it to the Lord.

69

:

We have to test everything

people tell us no matter how

70

:

much we love or respect them.

71

:

And I wanna issue a challenge that we

can be teaching our kids, especially

72

:

in these days of social media and

algorithms, when much of what we see

73

:

is curated to our specific viewpoint.

74

:

If you agree with 100% of something

that someone in particular says, and

75

:

you give them carte blanche, if this

person said it, I agree with it.

76

:

I think you probably have that person

too high on a pedestal, and you need

77

:

to make sure that Jesus Christ is

the only one you esteem that highly.

78

:

This might be a political leader, a

pastor, or an influencer on social media,

79

:

and the reverse is also true.

80

:

If you 100% disagree with every

single thing that comes outta

81

:

someone's mouth, the second that

you know they said it, then I think

82

:

you're also falling into an error.

83

:

If we believe everyone is made in the

image of God, then I hope you're open

84

:

to seeing some good in each person too.

85

:

With those clarifications, we're

gonna continue and our reading

86

:

today will be in chapter eight.

87

:

Then build, add the shoe height

answered and said, how long will

88

:

you say these things and the words

of your mouth be a great wind?

89

:

Does God pervert justice or does

the Almighty pervert the right?

90

:

If your children have sinned against

him, he has delivered them into

91

:

the hand of their transgression.

92

:

If you will seek God and plead

with the Almighty for mercy, if

93

:

you are pure and upright, surely,

then he will rouse himself for you.

94

:

And restore your rightful habitation.

95

:

And though your beginning was small,

your latter days will be very great.

96

:

For inquire please of bygone

ages and consider what the

97

:

fathers have searched out for.

98

:

We are but of yesterday and know nothing

for our days on earth are a shadow.

99

:

Will they not teach you and tell you

and utter words of their understanding?

100

:

And then in verse 13, such are

the paths of all who forget God.

101

:

The hope of the godless shall perish.

102

:

His confidence is severed

and his trust is a spiderweb.

103

:

He leans against his house,

but it does not stand.

104

:

He lays hold of it,

but it does not endure.

105

:

And he closes his speech with behold,

God will not reject a blameless man

106

:

nor take the hand of evil doers.

107

:

He will yet fill your mouth with

laughter and your lips are shouting.

108

:

Those who hate you will be

clothed with shame, and the tent

109

:

of the wicked will be no more.

110

:

Can you imagine if one of your friends

said to you perhaps a few months after

111

:

you lost a child or all 10 of them?

112

:

Obviously they were sinful.

113

:

That's why God let them die.

114

:

It's not helpful and

it's certainly harmful.

115

:

It won't bring them back, and it would

be torturous as a mother to hear that.

116

:

Billed is definitely cranking up

the shame and guilt to a whole

117

:

nother level with this speech.

118

:

But interestingly, there does seem to

be some real wisdom when he says that

119

:

the hope of the godless will perish and

that his trust is like a spider's web.

120

:

That's a pretty interesting analogy.

121

:

It's just so fragile.

122

:

And then when, and then he says,

this person leans against his

123

:

house, but it does not stand.

124

:

Which probably makes a lot of us

think about the foolish man that

125

:

built his house upon the sand.

126

:

Some of what Bill Dadd says is wise,

but for the context and the situation,

127

:

it's just not accurate or appropriate.

128

:

A pastor at my church encourage

our congregation to think,

129

:

does this need to be said?

130

:

Does this need to be said by me?

131

:

And does this need to be said right now?

132

:

It doesn't seem like Builded ran

this speech through that litmus test.

133

:

In Job seven 17, job said, what is

man that you make so much of him

134

:

and that you set your heart on him?

135

:

And this makes me think of Psalm

chapter eight when David writes,

136

:

oh Lord our Lord, how majestic

is your name in all the earth?

137

:

You have set your glory above the heavens.

138

:

Out of the mouth of Babes and Infants, you

have established strength because of your

139

:

foes to still the enemy and the avenger.

140

:

When I look at your heavens, the work

of your hands, the moon and the stars,

141

:

which you have set in place, what is

man that you are mindful of him and

142

:

the son of man, that you care for him?

143

:

You have made him a little lower

than the heavenly beings and

144

:

crowned him with glory and honor.

145

:

You have given him dominion

over the works of your hands.

146

:

He goes on to confirm some of

the promises of dominion that God

147

:

gave Adam and Eve in the garden.

148

:

But this question, what is man

that you are so mindful of him?

149

:

How do we serve a God that cares so

deeply for us and longs to dwell with us?

150

:

Well, here's another question we

can't answer, but we can delight in.

151

:

Heavenly Father, we are in

awe that you are mindful of us

152

:

we thank you that you are aware

of our coming and our going and

153

:

all that we say and do, and thank.

154

:

And we pray that this understanding

will transform how we live,

155

:

help us and help our children to

set our hearts on bringing you

156

:

glory more than anything else.

157

:

Give us discernment to test and weigh

what we say, but also what we hear

158

:

in this age when there are so many

words said, written and recorded.

159

:

We pray you would help us to be

above reproach and to guide our

160

:

children in that manner as well.

161

:

Whether our words are public or

private, may we speak the truth and

162

:

love following your perfect example.

163

:

Jesus, it's in your name that we pray.

164

:

Amen.

165

:

Okay.

166

:

If you're being blessed, by

being pointed to scripture every

167

:

day, particularly for your home,

And share it with some

other busy moms, you know?
