Hey, my friend, have you ever wondered where spiritual warfare takes place?
Because perhaps you felt a sudden, heavy dark cloud roll right into your living room or overwhelming anxiety hit your mind and you thought, why is this happening here in my safe space? This can be so confusing because you want to know if you've done something wrong or if this is an active attack on your home front.
Well, my friend, take heart, because by the end of today's episode, you'll know the exact locations where the adversary targets your daily life, how to guard the thresholds of your home, and how God turns your dark seasons into a powerful training ground. Stay tuned. Ordinary women, extraordinary faith. When God calls, we say yes. Hello, and welcome back to the Arise Women of God podcast.
I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson. My friends, today we're mapping out four specific battlegrounds where spiritual warfare takes place.
First, the sacred spaces, why the enemy targets your home and paradise. Second, the battlefield of the mind. How to capture and cast out those negative thoughts and self talk right here from your mind.
Third, the doorway and the daily walks where we'll talk about guarding the thresholds, choices, and emotional centers of your heart. And finally, we're going to talk about the hidden cave seasons and how God fortifies your spirit in times of isolation.
But first, let's kick it off by dispelling a major myth. Spiritual warfare doesn't just happen in dark, scary, abandoned places, although it can happen there.
In fact, the adversary's favorite target is right in the middle of your daily peace. Let's examine this by looking at the very first spiritual attack in human history, in Genesis, chapter three, verses one through seven.
This attack didn't happen in a dark wasteland. It happened in the middle of paradise, in the Garden of Eden, in Eve's daily home environment while she was going about her day.
So, my friends, spiritual warfare frequently attempts to breach our safest, most sacred spaces.
Just because a heavy spirit or sudden argument shows up in your kitchen or over your dinner table, it doesn't mean you've failed as a mom or done something terribly wrong. It simply means the enemy wants to disrupt your peace and your family. As God warns us in Genesis, chapter 4, verse 7, sin lieth at the door.
The enemy waits right at the threshold of our doors, our decisions, and our family boundaries, constantly looking for an open door to slip inside. Once the adversary looks at your outer space, he tries to move into that inner space, your mind and your heart.
In 2nd Corinthians 10:3,5, Paul writes, For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought, there's the thinking to the obedience of Christ.
So, my friends, the primary battlefield of spiritual warfare, in my opinion, is usually right between your ears, in your thoughts, your internal self talk and your imaginations, as Paul calls it, where the enemy tries to throw subtle lies, shame and doubt. After the adversary targets my thoughts in my mind, he often targets my heart.
In Proverbs 4:23, God commands us, keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. The battle takes place right in your emotional center, where the enemy tries to plant quiet seeds of resentment, envy, bitterness and worthlessness.
So, my friends, guarding your heart and your mind is spiritual warfare. The devil usually capitalizes on moments when I am feeling stressed out.
And here are two things I do consistently so that I can return to feeling grounded. First, I take a couple of deep breaths in through my nose and out through my mouth.
And then second, I prayerfully cast out the spirit of stress, lies, shame and fear in the name of Jesus Christ. And I invite in the spirit of peace and light. It works miracles every single time for me. And I know it will work for you too.
So, my friends, if the battle happens in our safe places, our minds and in our hearts, where else is Satan attacking, right?
In our ordinary physical routines, Peter warns us in 1st Peter 5:8, be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour.
Oh, my friends, spiritual warfare takes place in your daily walk, perhaps at the grocery store aisle or the school pickup line, your workplace, or the hallway in your home. The adversary actively prowls the physical territory where we live out our ordinary lives, looking for vulnerabilities when our guard is down.
That often happens when we're tired, hungry, or maybe in that time of the month. Right, ladies? So, my friends, recognizing everyday spaces are a battleground, help us stay vigilant, we without living in fear.
Finally, my friends, what about those seasons when you feel completely hidden, lonely or trapped? Let's look at the story of David in 1st Samuel 22:1 2. He was running for his life from King Saul, and he fled to the dark cave of Adullam.
And while he was hiding there in fear and isolation, David, hundreds of distressed, indebted and discontented people gathered to him. And right there in that dark cave, God allowed David to train them into a mighty army.
Battles very often take place when you or I feel hidden, isolated or trapped in a dark cave. Season of Life but remember, your cave is not your defeat, it is your training ground.
It is in those exact low hidden places where God fortifies our spirit, deepens our prayers and trains you and I to become mighty warriors of light. Especially as we allow others in to help us. Right after our son Nathan was diagnosed with autism, I was in a dark place for a while.
But as I allowed others to come in and help him, teachers and therapists, and I started meeting with other parents of children on the spectrum, I learned not only that I wasn't alone, but there was still hope and plenty of help in the future.
Oh my friend, now that you know where spiritual warfare takes place in your home, your mind, your heart and your daily walk, and especially in those cave seasons, you can step boldly into your God given authority to guard those spaces and to help you secure every threshold of your home and protect your family's heart and mind. We want to put a powerful practical tool directly into your hand.
