Sometimes, I share links to resources and apps that I recommend. They are all based on my experience - if I don't love them, I don't recommend them. In some cases, I earn a small commission for my recommendation, at no cost to you.
Your energy is your most valuable business asset. Money matters. Of course it does, but energy feels more finite. You can make more money, you can create more content, but when your energy is depleted, everything suffers decision making, creativity. How you work with your clients and even self-care really.
Sumantha:
Now, this typically shows up a lot after the summer holidays. We start with really big plans and then we kind of burn out because we start by hitting the ground running. I know I feel that every year, even though I've left the classroom, even though things are on my terms. But I have also learned that protecting your energy isn't indulgent.
Sumantha:
We do have a choice here. We don't have to start the school year, the academic year like that, and actually protecting your energy, I've learned, should be part of your strategy. Actually. When you see it as a strategy, I think you take it more seriously. So that might mean saying no to extra projects. It might mean scheduling real breaks in the day where you take a step back or setting a cutoff time for work each evening.
Sumantha:
I used to do that. I used to do it really well because I have my computer in my office, that's where I work. And then I have the living room, which is where I chill out in the evening. But a while ago, I got a laptop. And there's this spot in my living room next to the window that I really love working.
Sumantha:
And what didn't help was that during the summer months, my office gets really, really hot. So I found myself working a lot in my living room, but what was happening is my work time was bleeding into my relaxation time in the evening.
Sumantha:
Having that separation really helped me. So I want to ask you, what's draining you that doesn't need to be there, and what energises you that you could make more space for? Because let's face it, our energy is actually probably our most valuable business asset.
