Shownotes
Steve had to be up early this morning as he & Grant joined Steve Tupper and other podcasters on the annual Not at Sun N Fun show. That hasn't stopped them getting together later that evening to review the latest aviation news from Down Under.
- The RAAF celebrated their 90th anniversary at RAAF Base Point Cook, which is the oldest continuously operating military air base in the world.
- Cole Griffin is 90 years young, a former RAAF aviator and still a current pilot, albeit with a safety pilot on board. He arrived at Point Cook flying a Yak-52 in formation with a number of other Yaks.
- In the world of user fees, Avalon airport had been charging about AU$110 to shoot an ILS approach but they've reduced that now to AU$40 so long as do the missed approach and don't touch the tarmac. It's full fare if you do a touch & go, let alone a landing.
- Grant got suckered in by Australian Business Traveller saying Virgin Blue would be changing their name to Virgin Pacific with the campaign featuring Justin Bieber as the front man. If only Grant could have made it all the way to the end of the article to see the April Fools reference.
- Virgin's first A330 has been flying around Australia on route-proving and recently had a slightly different paint scheme while bumping circuits at Sydney, possibly for a photo shoot?
