exciting. So, Kevin, welcome to the show.

Thank you for having me on your show. It's a really a great

honor to be here. I love the energy that you two put forward

and I'm excited to dive into things. Awesome.

Speaker:

Well, thank you very much. We appreciate it. We've been doing the rebooted show for

Speaker:

two years now and I'm loving every minute of it. So

Speaker:

what exactly is American Binary and

Speaker:

what's your mission there? Because people talk about post Quantum all

Speaker:

the time and things about that, but when it comes down to

Speaker:

breast tacks, what does it exactly mean?

Speaker:

American Binary was founded in 2019 and we

Speaker:

specialize in securing networks over

Speaker:

radio and the Internet or over mobile and the Internet.

Speaker:

And we do that with post quantum cryptography. And we are one of

Speaker:

the oldest or more mature companies in the world specialized in

Speaker:

that. In the last 24 months, there have been many companies launched

Speaker:

and spin outs in this space. Whereas we have an advantage

Speaker:

because we developed a new novel key exchange

Speaker:

that we filed a patent on. How we do that and that

Speaker:

is important part of the transition in the world to post

Speaker:

quantum encryption. Quantum computing will be used to break

Speaker:

encryption as one of the first applications. There

Speaker:

seems to be an international consensus in My

Speaker:

world travels and conversations that everyone has accepted

Speaker:

that that is how certain adversary countries will use it.

Speaker:

In fact, those countries, including China, have

Speaker:

published that they are heading in the direction of using

Speaker:

it that way in the many attempts to develop a better

Speaker:

algorithm than shores that come from Chinese researchers. There's only

Speaker:

one reason you would do that, especially when you're naming and

Speaker:

trying to break RSA in the paper. Right? Right.

Speaker:

So you want to break encryption, we understand.

Speaker:

And so that has put alarm bells around the world

Speaker:

because we put the economy on top of the Internet, unfortunately.

Speaker:

So if people start breaking encryption, we might experience

Speaker:

run on banks, we may experience capital flight, we may

Speaker:

experience entire countries watch their savings

Speaker:

dissolve overnight as a result of

Speaker:

unintended consequences of the existence of that capability.

Speaker:

We don't know how markets will react and

Speaker:

especially when it's used for the first time in the wild.

Speaker:

So it strings me to the question about what is the mission of my company.

Speaker:

And the short term mission is to scale our. We built a product

Speaker:

that is a vpn. The VPN uses post quantum encryption.

Speaker:

Unlike all of our big tech competitors, our

Speaker:

company's solution meets what we call an NSA standard.

Speaker:

And the NSA standard requires what we call

Speaker:

full post quantum encryption. That includes post

Speaker:

quantum authentication. I authenticate that I am me and you

Speaker:

are you and you're not a Chinese spy pretending to be

Speaker:

you on the other side of a network. So I

Speaker:

authenticate and then the second thing I'm going to do is exchange a key.

Speaker:

And that key by NSA standard also has to be post quantum, that

Speaker:

key exchange. So that is where we

Speaker:

differentiate from all the other companies in the world who are using the

Speaker:

old classical key exchange because they haven't demonstrated

Speaker:

the technical ability, the, the desire or

Speaker:

their internal need for whatever reason, they have to

Speaker:

develop that key exchange. Instead they have opted for using an old one,

Speaker:

like a sort of like building a race car, but deciding to

Speaker:

keep the old tires on it. That

Speaker:

encryption is always as strong as its weakest link. That's

Speaker:

absolutely right. And so and then the third part that matters most

Speaker:

is bulk encryption. So that's the actual like blocked briefcase with

Speaker:

the encrypted payload. And then you could for

Speaker:

hashing for like system verification. So you have four parts

Speaker:

to encryption. And everyone that we are aware of, that we have seen around

Speaker:

the world has three of the parts that the NSA asks for for to

Speaker:

secure their networks, what is good enough for them on their

Speaker:

internal networks, but the key exchange. And we not

Speaker:

only developed the key exchange, but it's not theoretical we finished a

Speaker:

private peer review and have a formal verification of it with two cryptographers,

Speaker:

Joe Kinnery and Thomas Shrimpton. They were at Galois, they

Speaker:

were darpa. They are DARPA performers and they are extremely well known

Speaker:

cryptographers. In fact, Thomas Shrimpton founded rw

Speaker:

co founded RWC in the iacr International association of

Speaker:

Cryptological Research. They're very, very brilliant people and we

Speaker:

had two of them review all of our technical claims as a company.

Speaker:

And one of their quotes was we are the farthest along in this verification in

Speaker:

the world for the new era of post quantum

Speaker:

encryption. Right. For our product. The exact quote's a little bit different but

Speaker:

you get the point. Yeah, well and you've been doing this since 2019,

Speaker:

so that does make you very, very much one of the original

Speaker:

guardians in this space. Yes, we saw the problem heading

Speaker:

coming very early. I sort of found it surprising

Speaker:

that people didn't and when they would even argue against it.

Speaker:

And it brings me to a psychological aspect of people. This is, this

Speaker:

has been a real journey for me learning about people and learning

Speaker:

how, you know, like they say I'll cross a mob will walk off a

Speaker:

cliff. Right. And you sort of see

Speaker:

that in a space where know many people who were wise

Speaker:

said, you know, the people will learn when it's too late. So I thought,

Speaker:

well we, they have to be influenced and persuaded in advance. You know,

Speaker:

I'm going to develop my network, I'm going to influence people,

Speaker:

I'm going to make my case, I'm going to show them what it is that

Speaker:

I see. One of the challenges of being in my role is that

Speaker:

we're often misunderstood. And where we have strategic insight,

Speaker:

they see luck. Where we are right about something

Speaker:

because of very sophisticated means that we've thought through.

Speaker:

They see somebody who was smart one time so you never

Speaker:

really fully get credit for it. And part of the reason for that is

Speaker:

psychological insecurity. People generally don't like to admit

Speaker:

that the other person figured something out that they did not where they

Speaker:

don't see the credentials. I mean I'm a particular type of entrepreneur

Speaker:

where I like to go into places that I lack credentials

Speaker:

and I like to do something better than. People have been working on it for

Speaker:

30 years there. That's my style. I went into

Speaker:

AI after sort of being in economics and working with

Speaker:

economists and then I started a quantitative hedge fund manager with

Speaker:

no background in trading, finance or coding. And then it's

Speaker:

the same thing when we went into this space. No one on the original founding

Speaker:

team worked in national security and nor did we work on post quantum

Speaker:

cryptography and nor do we focus exclusively on encryption

Speaker:

or securing enterprise networks. And so

Speaker:

there's a certain pride in doing that. And for me it

Speaker:

sort of came from my experiences in life.

Speaker:

Over the course of my life I've learned that it's very

Speaker:

possible to learn something within two to

Speaker:

three years and do it better than people have been doing it. 20 at least.

Speaker:

You aspire to do that, right? That's sort of the goal.

Speaker:

Yeah, that's very much a Tim Ferriss thing that the, if you ever

Speaker:

read the four hour work week, which is totally a lie, like it's never a

Speaker:

four hour work week and he even says that. Is that what he does? He

Speaker:

kind of immerses himself in a particular problem space for

Speaker:

six weeks to three months. So that's why he is,

Speaker:

you know, I think he's a, he, he won the

Speaker:

Argentina National Tango Championship and all the crazy things

Speaker:

he's done is because he does kind of stop what he's doing and immerse himself

Speaker:

in this one thing. And it sounds like you, you follow

Speaker:

very similar philosophy in, in that regard. And I think

Speaker:

as you push forward in this and you know, whether it's AI,

Speaker:

whether it's quantum, a lot of the math starts repeating itself. Right.

Speaker:

Like it's not entirely going from AI to Quantum, is not

Speaker:

entirely going from 0 to 1, it's probably going from 0 point.

Speaker:

Right. I don't know if you would agree with that or not, but

Speaker:

one of my closest friends, a really brilliant guy, he's got an

Speaker:

IQ over 150. So you know, the

Speaker:

interpretation is it means he can learn fast, he's a clever

Speaker:

guy, he can learn very fast and he'll blow through books and weekends

Speaker:

that are heavy. Right. But we talk a lot and one of the comments

Speaker:

is that after you've read of Nothings, everything is the same, no matter the

Speaker:

field. Right. It just becomes a different kind of

Speaker:

pattern in a different form. Whereas other people see something specific,

Speaker:

he will see familiar patterns and that allows him to speed up the

Speaker:

learning process and skip over a lot of things. That's

Speaker:

a good way to put it. Yeah. You did say a couple things that I

Speaker:

did have some questions about. So I was under the impression

Speaker:

NIST was. So, so, so who, who's creating these standards for post

Speaker:

quantum cryptography? Obviously nsa. Obviously. Obviously NSA is going to

Speaker:

be a big player in this. Right. Like that goes without saying, but I thought

Speaker:

NIST had the official standard bearer of coming

Speaker:

up with the standards, or is there another standards body I'm not aware of?

Speaker:

So NIST develops the standards for the algorithms.

Speaker:

That's it. They stop there. They do not write standards

Speaker:

for what to do with the algorithms, for certifying

Speaker:

software, for saying that you've met a bar to secure a network.

Speaker:

So that's a big misunderstanding is that a lot of people think that

Speaker:

if you use the post quantum algorithms, your product is post quantum.

Speaker:

And it's not that this is, this is a language problem.

Speaker:

So, you know, throwing a post quantum authentication in

Speaker:

without using AES256TCM and using

Speaker:

AES128 is probably not post quantum,

Speaker:

right? Then you have the whole problem of the key distribution, which

Speaker:

you also need to secure the key, right? So there are

Speaker:

cryptographers who use what they call the hybrid method, which is.

Speaker:

So there are four parts. Authentication, key exchange, bulk encryption, and

Speaker:

hashing. And they will use a classical key exchange in their

Speaker:

weaker link. And what they will say is that, but

Speaker:

inevitably, even if the keys are broken, AES is still secure,

Speaker:

so it's okay. And I think that while that, that may be

Speaker:

true cryptographically sound, it is

Speaker:

not true when it comes to how the world might see it,

Speaker:

that is not as sophisticated as them. I grew up

Speaker:

in a house of well water and septic tanks. My parents house

Speaker:

cost $40,000 by US standards.

Speaker:

And that's where I lived when I was in elementary school with a grade that

Speaker:

had eight students in it in a tiny Catholic school.

Speaker:

So, you know, for me, I see making that kind of wealth is.

Speaker:

It means something different to me than it might some other people, depending on their

Speaker:

personality. For me, I realized that

Speaker:

nobody I care about ever has

Speaker:

to work again. And their children and their grandchildren

Speaker:

and their cousins ever have to work again or worry about money

Speaker:

infinitely into the future if I am a good custodian of that money,

Speaker:

right? So we now are kings. It's if you make 50 million,

Speaker:

you have just made yourself a king. And I

Speaker:

tell people who want to make that, let that, let that sit in,

Speaker:

right? And let that drive you. You are now a king maker

Speaker:

at the table too. You can make someone else a millionaire if you want to.

Speaker:

And then somebody breaks the

Speaker:

RSA 2048 very high bar of security

Speaker:

or elliptic curve cryptography in the key exchange.

Speaker:

And they put it on Wall street bets 12 hours before an invasion

Speaker:

in Taiwan, right? When there's satellite imagery of

Speaker:

the war preparing, and they do it in New York City.

Speaker:

And then there is immediate misinformation all over the Internet about

Speaker:

what happened. Right. How many minutes before there

Speaker:

are mass withdrawals from the bank from people like

Speaker:

myself who have just made that money? No one's

Speaker:

gonna, yeah, I can almost speak in absolutes and say

Speaker:

no one's gonna wait for a cryptographer to get on television to tell them. Well,

Speaker:

well actually it's still secure because

Speaker:

yes, it is an international disaster waiting to

Speaker:

happen simply because, look, when I tell people what we

Speaker:

do, I get sometimes people coming back six months

Speaker:

later, later who are CTOs at major organizations

Speaker:

asking, but how are you doing that without like quantum

Speaker:

entanglement in a computer? I'm like, what, what? This is

Speaker:

not what we discussed. So it's not that it's insult.

Speaker:

I don't mean to be insulting to some people like that, but

Speaker:

it's, it's sort of overwhelming for people when they hear the word quantum.

Speaker:

And so you, you, you will never persuade me that the

Speaker:

markets will react reasonably to this kind of threat

Speaker:

if people get confused. Quantum

Speaker:

computing and using software to defend against

Speaker:

it. Right. And so it's

Speaker:

such a complex thing for some people to digest

Speaker:

that they are not going to have the patience for nuance. I don't think

Speaker:

anyone will. Basic cryptography is, has been a lot for a lot

Speaker:

of people to digest. But yeah, sorry, Candace. Okay. I'm like me, me.

Speaker:

So, so which sectors, I mean, as

Speaker:

you're talking about this threat, which sectors are the most

Speaker:

vulnerable if they delay quantum preparedness?

Speaker:

So while she was Director of National Intelligence,

Speaker:

Tulsi Gabbard gave a really well prepared speech

Speaker:

that you can speculate, probably had the help of the intelligence community.

Speaker:

And in that briefing to House was

Speaker:

she expected financial sector to be among the first hit.

Speaker:

And it was. She specifically said that

Speaker:

that's. As a former hedge fund person,

Speaker:

that to me is the obvious solution to the problem for

Speaker:

China with Taiwan. Right. So you can imagine if

Speaker:

Wall Street. So it goes like this. You have someone putting in a

Speaker:

very large order, like a black rock or a black water.

Speaker:

Black water, blackrock. And they, they are going

Speaker:

to put in that order and it might take two weeks to fill because the

Speaker:

position is so large. You fill it faster,

Speaker:

you have a fat rapid moving on price and slippage. So

Speaker:

you set the order to be filled over a long period of time.

Speaker:

So, you know, let's say you have a two weeks or three week period to

Speaker:

fill in a gigantic order because you're shifting things around. Maybe

Speaker:

you're going to sell off some of your holdings in data cent

Speaker:

or AI because you're aware of an innovation or an announcement coming. So the

Speaker:

new president's coming in and they have some new initiatives. So then

Speaker:

asset managers start changing their investments to match

Speaker:

those thesis. Right? So you can see this scenario coming

Speaker:

and just as the administration is onboarding,

Speaker:

suddenly there is keys that are

Speaker:

supposed to be mathematically impossible to break. Not even in a thousand years

Speaker:

with a computer to one of those banks put on,

Speaker:

on on a Reddit feed for trading.

Speaker:

Everyone now knows what orders to get behind,

Speaker:

right? They know what orders to get behind to make a lot of money

Speaker:

or to get in front of.

Speaker:

So probably what will happen is the exchanges will shut down,

Speaker:

right? Because prices will go crazy of

Speaker:

people being what people do. Right.

Speaker:

And then when they restart it again, the adversary does it again

Speaker:

at a different bank or a different company that

Speaker:

moves to market. When people start putting that information on the

Speaker:

Internet then the exchanges are

Speaker:

shut down indefinitely and we're hemorrhaging trillions of dollars.

Speaker:

Right. You would be extremely

Speaker:

difficult to organize a military when there is a problem

Speaker:

in the ability to pay them. It's

Speaker:

almost a non invasive way to take a country down.

Speaker:

Right. And I don't see how it's not used like that or

Speaker:

implied as a threat like that. It to me it's. We have already

Speaker:

done that in some ways In World War II we used the

Speaker:

ability to decrypt to sink German U boats.

Speaker:

But if we could have sunk German banks, right.

Speaker:

Five years before then they would not have had the ability to feed the war

Speaker:

machine. They'd had no money. And

Speaker:

so while this is all hypothetical, you can imagine that there

Speaker:

are people slightly more evil than us who are

Speaker:

extremely hungry and they're paid literally to think about this all day

Speaker:

long in our adversary countries. Right.

Speaker:

And so this is one of the way reasons why I think

Speaker:

Tulsi mentioned it is because other people whose job it is

Speaker:

to game this out have also fancied and imagined just

Speaker:

exactly how it can be used.

Speaker:

It's like a financial nuclear weapon. Yes. So you're seeing

Speaker:

a push in national security circles in the United States to

Speaker:

push exclusively for full post quantum encryption.

Speaker:

Right. There are companies that lobby they who and they haul.

Speaker:

They don't have a solution or they say it's not interoperable.

Speaker:

Right. Or they don't have a solution because they use

Speaker:

ICAV2 which is also a standard protocol.

Speaker:

You know, they don't want to have to upgrade their network. That's going to be

Speaker:

expensive. And things that really just don't matter in the end

Speaker:

that have Nothing to do with survival. There's also still

Speaker:

a challenge of getting people to acknowledge that this is their problem,

Speaker:

this is their threat, and that this

Speaker:

affects us all. And another aspect is it's an international problem.

Speaker:

So for example, if the Japanese

Speaker:

stock market, the Nikkei 225, one of their

Speaker:

companies were hit in such a fashion, the US would feel it

Speaker:

immediately because correlation and exposure.

Speaker:

So if Nikkei225 dives, the new York Stock Exchange,

Speaker:

its, its companies will also dive. We,

Speaker:

we cannot, we're not decoupled. So

Speaker:

this is not just a U. S. National security problem, it's an international

Speaker:

problem. And so some would say that a country then would

Speaker:

never use it because it hurts itself. And that's absolutely not how

Speaker:

it works in history. Germany was France's largest

Speaker:

trading partner in the start of World War II. Countries are

Speaker:

not deterred by money when they want to make war.

Speaker:

You know, you're historically based, you

Speaker:

know, politically based. I have to ask

Speaker:

you, like, what keeps you up at night when you think about the future

Speaker:

of cybersecurity? I think

Speaker:

it's our job in my area to

Speaker:

make it safe for people who work in quantum computing and

Speaker:

AI to continue to develop their technologies so that

Speaker:

we can use them for good by mitigating the risks of how

Speaker:

it can be used for the bad.

Speaker:

It's essential that we go full ahead with AI as fast as

Speaker:

possible in quantum computing for discoveries in

Speaker:

the sciences. We need the sciences in order to solve those

Speaker:

larger problems in the world. Right? We need

Speaker:

more efficient power generation, we need lower cost

Speaker:

electricity to reduce inflation.

Speaker:

Our problems, many of the world involve money and the cost

Speaker:

of resource. And we need the sciences to lower all of them.

Speaker:

Food should be nickels on the dollar to what it is, and

Speaker:

advances in science will make that possible. The last thing

Speaker:

we need is more expensive gasoline or more expensive

Speaker:

milk. This stuff should be at the floor bottom, inexpensive,

Speaker:

so that everyone is then increased in buying power per household,

Speaker:

which alleviates poverty, which reduces social

Speaker:

tension, social issues, and also it

Speaker:

reduces people being distracted by things. Quite frankly,

Speaker:

only matter when people are angry people. And so we

Speaker:

need to have those advances in science that will come from quantum computing. They're essential

Speaker:

to the survival of humanity, especially where we are at right now in the

Speaker:

world. And in order to do that, they cannot be threats to

Speaker:

everyone. So we run out ahead of it laying the train tracks to make them

Speaker:

safe. And that is a primary, one of the primary functions of

Speaker:

my company. From a deep level, this is not just about network

Speaker:

security. This is not just about post quantum encryption and

Speaker:

some stupid buzzword I can use to raise money and be excited to

Speaker:

be a part. These are tied to real problems, real

Speaker:

civilizational survival problems. And I

Speaker:

was gonna say civilization level defense. And

Speaker:

so for me, I saw it that way from day one

Speaker:

and that was what inspired me to want to do it.

Speaker:

If it wasn't like that, then I would not have done it

Speaker:

in. One of the things we find that I often communicate to people who are

Speaker:

not familiar with tech, especially tech in

Speaker:

this, like founder driven tech in the west coast, in the US

Speaker:

is that there is no amount of money you can pay a talented person to

Speaker:

work on a problem they don't want to. Yeah.

Speaker:

And so when you have the world as your oyster to choose what

Speaker:

you want to work on, even if you're broke, but you have that talent,

Speaker:

you're only going to do what you want. And so

Speaker:

that's another interesting point. Not if they don't want to.

Speaker:

So you have to find people who want to solve this problem. Money doesn't fix

Speaker:

it. Talented people don't care about money.

Speaker:

They care about what they want to do, what they're

Speaker:

passionate about. And that means that money doesn't solve a

Speaker:

problem where you have a talent deficiency. At this level of skill

Speaker:

and this level of drive and focus, you can't.

Speaker:

No, that's a good way to put it. Sorry, Candace. No, no, no.

Speaker:

I'm just. My mind is being blown. I'm

Speaker:

loving it. Why do you believe the quantum threat is often

Speaker:

misunderstood by both technical and non technical

Speaker:

audiences?

Speaker:

People are busy and they have a hundred things to do. I

Speaker:

think, you know, if I could go off topic a

Speaker:

little bit. Someone asked, what do you think is the future for

Speaker:

humanity with AI, There are a lot of logistical problems to be solved.

Speaker:

But the answer sort of ties into your question. People

Speaker:

have families, they have children, they have a hundred things

Speaker:

to think about. And mine is the area we

Speaker:

operate. It's one of the scariest. It's also sort of in the

Speaker:

abstract right now and in the world of

Speaker:

Instagram and in the world of a news cycle that

Speaker:

changes on the hour. I don't fault anyone for not

Speaker:

tracking the details of my space. And I'm not

Speaker:

sure they should. I mean, in an ideal world, I.

Speaker:

I would spend all of my time with my family and my son.

Speaker:

I sort of have come to the realization in the world of AI, something good

Speaker:

will happen. People will say, what is that? Instead of

Speaker:

running from your families to go build companies. For many people,

Speaker:

running from your households to go save the world. Put all your energy

Speaker:

not. So when they say, what am I going to do? I just told you,

there they go. What would you say to someone

who is curious about the quantum space,

whether it's, you know, algorithmic type work or is

it they're in a non quantum career and they want to explore what their options

are? What would you say to them?

I think people who are passionate

will always find something to do

and I can say what my advice is, what works for me

and that is to only work on what I'm passionate about

are. I am driven almost exclusively by my passion

for my belief in what I'm doing. And I had to do like that.

I don't seek, I don't seek external validation. When we started this seven years

ago, there were almost nobody in support of us. There was

somebody recently who said, you know, he should have done this four

years ago and he should have done that three years ago. And

I said, well, where were you then at that time to help me do that?

Speaker:

Right. Otherwise you're just an armchair researcher

Speaker:

talking about a foreign country you've never visited. It's sort of,

Speaker:

it's tone deaf and it's a lack of self awareness

to sort of have that Hindsight commentary. It's silly,

right? And so for me, I never cared. I thought, found

it laughable or annoying, a distraction. And for

Speaker:

a lot of people, it's even more annoying that I don't care what they think,

but I just articulated why they don't deserve it. I will

Speaker:

take advice, I will integrate it, but the social

Speaker:

psychological layer aspect, People will get absolutely nothing

Speaker:

from me because you have to earn that to, to

Speaker:

receive that from me. Look, if you don't have the kind of

Speaker:

courage that it takes to do this kind of stuff, you're not

Speaker:

going to be respected that way. I'm sorry. Yeah,

I think that. I'm sorry. People who seek external

validation in turn lack courage.

Speaker:

Oh, that's a heck of a statement. I mean, it's 100. It's 100.

That's a meme like, right? Yeah, yeah. Because courage

requires being misunderstood. Courage requires going

Speaker:

against the grain. Courage requires following a

Speaker:

goal that has nothing to do with what the people around you believe.

Right. You know, part of your journey. I know. Included

being involved in the military. Do you think that

being involved in military service

has flavored

some of your views on courage,

entrepreneurship, going against the grain?

The military is a testing ground for yourself

and your resolve. And if you're really good at

getting where you want by attuning yourself to the external

validation, you will excel in that in the military, if you really focus

on it, you want it, you're ambitious, you can turn that

into a good. Right. You can be so socially attuned that you're popular.

Right. And if you're very driven on not

losing your identity when you're in the military, not becoming

like the machine, but wearing a mask because it's a job for

you, you're going to harden that resolve too, which was more my

style. I tell people every day. I hated getting up at 5:30

in the morning. I hated running 16 miles a week. I

hated listening to people who

clearly lacked like, traceable reasoning skills. Sometimes

it's very hard to do that, to know that someone is wrong

Speaker:

and to follow them, to know that they are not nuanced and to

Speaker:

follow them. I think nothing is harder than for a smart person than to do

something they know is stupid. And so people say, how did

Speaker:

you do it? A lot of discipline, a lot of self

Speaker:

control and a lot of discipline. And for the ME the military

taught self control, long horizon, self control. I

reenlisted not wanting to be in the army. People say, why did you do that?

I had goals more important than want More important than emotion,

more important than how I feel. And I will sacrifice

all of those things for something that I fix on and that I want.

And that the military will teach you because it is unforgiving

right. No, I mean, that's a good way to put it. It's for a species

that I think we think we're above our baser instincts, but

I don't think we are. And when panic sets in, panic's gonna

set in. I'm an optimist about

people. I, I feel that, number one, I

noticed in the last five years, especially in the U.S. a lot of negative talk.

Speaker:

Right. Because when we have children and, and we're truly present with them

Speaker:

and we're, we're a part of their inner worlds. I always say that a parent's

Speaker:

not doing their job if they're not a part of the inner world of their

Speaker:

children. Being in the house and clothing them and putting food on the

Speaker:

table doesn't make us parents. Parents is also raising that

Speaker:

inner world and, and it changes us. That's why I'm a big advocate for that.

My son's inner world and learning, it changed me.

And it makes us more patient people. It makes us allow for more

Speaker:

human flaws and it allows us to, to realize that

Speaker:

we can't control people, but we can be a part of

Speaker:

shaping what kind of person they are and their

Speaker:

resilience. Then when we go out and we're yelling in

politics and we're yelling about what the world should be, our

Speaker:

temperaments will be different as a result of that. And we would

Speaker:

be more graceful and more cautious people and being so sure we're

Speaker:

right because we lived with that human being

Speaker:

that's growing in our house and watching them form.

For me, being a parent and a loving father is very, very important part

Speaker:

of my psyche and my decisions as an entrepreneur.

But like you said, we are animals and we are human. And I have

that drive myself, so I try to balance that.
