A New Tanya class By Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz “How to open your eyes & see G-D” Tanya Igeret Hakodesh Chapter 9 Materialism is classified as הבל vanity unless it has a higher purpose. Our souls close our spiritual eyes when we engage in the coarse materialistic world. The Alter Rebbe encourages & inspires us to open our Souls Eyes to the the source of life in everything in this world. For example when we work & support our families we should not do that out of self love rather we should work & support our families as the verse says מי כעמך ישראל גוי אחד בארץ that even in ארציות we should see & experience the Oneness of Hashem. When we close our eyes by Shema & meditate that Hashem is in the seven heavens & earth & in all 4 corners of the world when we open our eyes after words we should still experience & see Hashem in everything. Just like Hashem is constantly performing acts of Chesed for us so to we need to be constantly performing acts of Chesed to all people. However we need to bear in mind that the Torah instructs us to practice Chesed first to our wife & Children. The Alter Rebbe states that the Avoda now before Moshiach arrival is Charity as the Rambam rules אין ישראל נגאלין אלא בצדקה even though in the past the Avoda was Torah Study however now that נפלה סוכת דוד as David was a chariot to Malchut of Atzilut so that fell down to the lowest level of Asiyah so the way to cleave to G-D & to transform darkness to light is in the world action namely Charity to help those that are in dire straits. When we win over our evil inclination to help we merit to SEE with our physical EYES G-DLINESS just like the way the EYE above sees G-DLINESS the Seeing of G-D is much greater than the connection thru intellect or understanding.
