Welcome back to The becoming the big knee podcast. I'm your host,
Speaker:
00:00:09
Djemilah Birnie, and you are tuning into minute madness, a
Speaker:
00:00:12
little dose of epicness delivered in five minutes or
Speaker:
00:00:15
less.
Speaker:
00:00:19
Hey, what's up, guys, it's jameelah. I'm here with Anthony.
Speaker:
00:00:22
We're just on the beach doing our little walk here. And he was
Speaker:
00:00:26
telling me about something that I just had to share with you
Speaker:
00:00:29
guys. So Anthony was talking about something that happened in
Speaker:
00:00:33
his business. And it brought to my mind something really
Speaker:
00:00:37
important. And that is taking a mistake, or taking something
Speaker:
00:00:41
that is a perceived negative, and turning it into a perceived
Speaker:
00:00:45
positive. So Anthony, I'll let you share kind of what happened
Speaker:
00:00:48
with Yelp, and what's going on. Yeah, so I had
Speaker:
00:00:53
contacted Yelp and decided to try to exercise their
Speaker:
00:00:58
advertisements, and put me up at the top of the search for the
Speaker:
00:01:02
our mobile detailing company.
Speaker:
00:01:05
Somehow in that process, they messed up the location and
Speaker:
00:01:08
started advertising us way out of our zone. And I was actually
Speaker:
00:01:13
trying to push gift cards during that time. So we ended up
Speaker:
00:01:17
selling a lot of gift cards this year. And I was really excited
Speaker:
00:01:19
about it. And then I ended up finding out that we were being
Speaker:
00:01:22
advertised over in the Seattle area, which is hours away from
Speaker:
00:01:28
where we operate. So now I am accountable to do those details,
Speaker:
00:01:32
or do the refund, which, you know, but the great thing that's
Speaker:
00:01:38
come from it is the amount of customers even after cancelling
Speaker:
00:01:43
that campaign, that are still calling me in that area, that
Speaker:
00:01:47
has allowed me to kind of open my eyes to the perspective of
Speaker:
00:01:51
what is available out there. And it's given me the customer
Speaker:
00:01:54
database, to be able to actually work towards launching another
Speaker:
00:01:58
vehicle, another mobile detailing van out there. So I
Speaker:
00:02:02
kind of took that negative because they cost me a lot of
Speaker:
00:02:05
money. And now I'm going to transition and personally start
Speaker:
00:02:09
running out there and start launching vans out in that area,
Speaker:
00:02:12
which is awesome. Because it's not something that was on my, on
Speaker:
00:02:16
my plate or on my radar up until it's now it's like I can't deny
Speaker:
00:02:20
it. I think it's just such a cool story. Because you could
Speaker:
00:02:24
have easily just gotten pissed off. And I think you did get a
Speaker:
00:02:28
little
Speaker:
00:02:29
you did get a little mad at the beginning. But you could have
Speaker:
00:02:33
easily just gotten so mad at the situation been mad at Yelp and
Speaker:
00:02:36
mad about the money situation and lost that opportunity. But
Speaker:
00:02:40
instead, you allowed yourself to get frustrated for a minute. But
Speaker:
00:02:44
then you allowed it to open a new door of opportunity for you
Speaker:
00:02:47
and all of those calls. I mean, that's a very, very busy area.
Speaker:
00:02:50
There's a lot of customers in that area, and you are in a
Speaker:
00:02:52
growth and expansion timeframe right now and hiring new people
Speaker:
00:02:56
like it all seems to kind of aligned at the right time. Yeah,
Speaker:
00:03:00
and I just think it's so powerful how you were able to
Speaker:
00:03:03
take that perceived negative experience, which was a mistake,
Speaker:
00:03:08
right? It was a mistake in the advertising process. And you
Speaker:
00:03:11
could have been upset about the loss of money. But you have the
Speaker:
00:03:14
forethought to see that this isn't actually a loss of money,
Speaker:
00:03:17
because in the long term, you're gonna now launch a van over
Speaker:
00:03:19
there, and you're gonna end up getting a lunch is gonna end I
Speaker:
00:03:22
think I might surprise myself, the growth I've been, we've been
Speaker:
00:03:26
operating over here for about five years. And I'm kind of
Speaker:
00:03:30
starting to feel like, once I launched that van over there,
Speaker:
00:03:34
it's just gonna be rapid, you know, I'm gonna start just
Speaker:
00:03:36
launching more and more bands. So I'm excited about it. And
Speaker:
00:03:39
it's just important to remember that, you know, there's not
Speaker:
00:03:42
necessarily any bad days, we have good days, we have great
Speaker:
00:03:46
days, we have learning days. And so having the ability to take
Speaker:
00:03:50
that negative and let Yes, you're gonna feel the emotions,
Speaker:
00:03:52
like I was like, yo, you know, I sold all these gift cards, but
Speaker:
00:03:59
at the same time, it's like, hold up, flip the script. Step
Speaker:
00:04:02
back, look at the bigger picture. What is the universe
Speaker:
00:04:05
trying to show me here? What kind of opportunity is here?
Speaker:
00:04:08
What kind of lesson is there to be learned? and seize the
Speaker:
00:04:11
opportunity. So, you know, I'm grateful for it. Yeah, that's so
Speaker:
00:04:16
powerful. Thank you so much for sharing that story. And with
Speaker:
00:04:19
that, I'll leave you guys on that note. So what in your life
Speaker:
00:04:22
are is maybe a perceived negative, that maybe you could
Speaker:
00:04:26
switch the perspective on maybe it actually is there to serve
Speaker:
00:04:29
you. Maybe all it takes a different lens to look through
Speaker:
00:04:32
the situation.
