“I deserve this.” I say it too. I worked hard, so I deserve a break. I’ve been through enough, so surely I deserve something good.

But that word can quietly convince us that life—or even God—owes us something. Scripture gives us a very different picture. What we’ve been given through Jesus isn’t something we earned at all.

That’s what makes grace so incredible. The best things God has given us aren’t rewards for being deserving. They’re gifts. Maybe instead of keeping track of what we think we’re owed, today we can simply be grateful that through Christ, God has given us so much more than we could ever earn.

Scripture (NIV):

Romans 6:23 — “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Where do I find myself thinking, “I deserve this”?

Have I started treating God’s gifts like something I’ve earned?

What part of His grace am I especially thankful for today?
