Shownotes

In this episode of Mind Power Meets Mystic, Michelle Walters (Mind Power) and Cinthia Varkevisser (Mystic) welcome holistic health coach Lori Colombo. Lori shares her journey of following “spiritual breadcrumbs” and how intuition guided her from Montessori education into yoga, bodywork, herbalism, and finally board-certified health coaching.

Together, they explore:

  • How intuition shows up in real-life career decisions
  • What it means to trust your inner wisdom
  • The difference between knowing what to do and actually doing it
  • How clarity, presence, and body awareness unlock intuition
  • Why simple solutions often create the biggest change
  • How health coaching blends behavior change with intuition

Lori explains her concept of “Vibrance,” a state of vitality created through aligned habits, clarity, and listening to your body. The conversation weaves spirituality, practical tools, and soulful insight into one powerful reminder: your intuition is already talking—you just have to listen.

Welcome friends and listeners and viewers, you are here with me, Michelle Walters and my podcast pal, Cinthia Varkevisser for another episode of Mind Power Meets Mystic. on our show, I am the mind power because I am my Insta handle, and my YouTube handle is mind power junkie, and I just love thinking about the power of the mind. And Cinthia is our mystic because, well, she's mystic. We are here today with our guest, Lori. Lori Colombo is a national board certified health and wellness coach with 20 plus years of experience working as a health coach, nutrition coach, wellness expert, certified massage therapist and advanced body worker, beyond which she has earned a stack of certificates, including certified yoga instructor, trained herbalist and nutrition advisor, layered on top of a 20 year career as a certified Montessori early childhood educator, as a board certified health coach, Lori integrates all of her professional expertise and grounded intuition to guide and empower clients to reach a new level of wellness and state of vitality she calls Vibrance. Welcome. Lori columpo, thank you for having me. Excited to be here. We're super excited to have you, especially after listening to your bio, you can see in so many areas you're about holistic wellness, right mind, body and spirit. You could see it in your yoga practice. You can see it in your body work, in your Montessori work, right? Because in Montessori work, it's about freedom of choice and play. Yes, you see that. You see the rhythm going through. Have you had that rhythm within you? Have you been aware of it since you were a baby? Or when did you when did you realize that this was within you, and how did you get started on this path?

Well, I

used to say, actually in my bio, that I followed my the spiritual breadcrumbs, you know, and so have always worked very intuitively and moved along my path that way. And it was more like, well, this is the next thing and this is the next thing and this is the next thing and this is the next thing, and so,

and a lot of it has to do with what opportunities have come up along my path and just what felt right at the time. And I can look back now and see that I've being a Board Certified Health Coach, and we're helping with people in this very holistic way. Has always been where I was headed. You know, you can only see that when you're

further down the path,

but I just, you know, there are just a lot of times I could have become a registered dietitian or a new you know, a nutritionist, or you know, or you know, even a doctor or you know, or have continued down the education Path, and

none of those felt right, and so it was. I just kind of have always done the next thing that lit me up and that just made sense and just seemed like the right next step. So I've always been guided by my intuition in that way, and that's how I

work a lot with clients that are open to that.

Oh, I think that's great.

As some of our listeners know, I met Cinthia because she was my intuition teacher. Way back in the day, I felt like that was something that I wanted to develop in me.

E and there were these classes at bookstore on the Berkeley Oakland border, and I got to go and meet Cinthia and some other great folks. And, you know, learning to incorporate your intuition in your work is powerful, and it's not always encouraged. No, I mean, I'd be curious. Lori, as you were, you were attempting or trying to follow your intuition. If you ever ran into places where you were like, Oh, wow, this isn't me. This is, you know, I'm coming up against things or people who don't appreciate me for for knowing that side of myself 100%

I mean, I think when you operate that way, and the world doesn't,

I mean, even you know, I mean, that's why I had to leave where I grew up, because I just felt Like I don't belong here. This isn't

where I can you operate in that, in that ways, I had to move to California

in order to be that way. And even my journey out here has has been like that. But, you know, to get here, you know, I kind of made my way.

Yeah, I but even, like, I think for everybody on their like path in life, you know, you kind of get to, like, a place where even just how you've gotten to where you've gotten, it just no longer fits. And that was for me, when I was a Montessori teacher. I loved it so much when I first started, and it was an incredible community, incredible community for me to raise my children in. And I feel like everything I learned there has served me

working with clients now.

And I feel like just the little kids are just so filled with magic. And

but then it was just like, Oh, this isn't it anymore. And so, you know, sometimes you're kind of in that place where you just, you're you don't know what the next thing is, and that's just how it goes.

You have been listening to Mind Power Meets Mystic with me. Michelle Walters and my co host, Cinthia Varkevisser, we want to tell you about a special gig the two of us have going on. It's called mind power meets mystic, the project, and it starts off on a zoom call with Cinthia. Cinthia tell everybody what they can expect. So for the first half of our session, you will be with me, and Michelle will be very quietly in the background preparing to do her work. What we will do is that we will talk about the one thing that you either want to amp up or that you want to release. And through the intuitive work, I help you get boil it down to its essence, and then give you an RX of three practical things to do to set you on your way. And then Michelle magically appears. What is it that you do that Michelle, I have been listening in but not participating in the first half of the call. I have an excellent idea of what Cinthia means when she says something, and I have an excellent idea of quickly getting to what my client is all about and his or her individual strengths. I turn all of this into a 20 to 30 minute hypnosis session on the second half of the call, which, when we're done, I strip off and send you as an mp three that you can listen to over and over again. You also will have cinthia's Three point recommendations and the recording of the Zoom call. It is a fantastic one hour offering a great gift for yourself or for someone you don't know what to get such insights, and we've gotten such great reviews. So if you're interested, send me or Cinthia an email. You'll find our contact information in the show notes, and we'll tell you how to get started.

You know, I had, there's a quick thing that happened for me when I was doing my intuitive work. My teacher actually kicked me out of the nest, and now not permanently, but she kicked me on the nest because I wanted instant gratification, right? I wanted

not approving that, you know, like, yes, you're right, so I could keep moving on. I needed that acknowledgement that she said, You know what, why don't you go to handwriting analysis? And in handwriting analysis, you because it's a science that, you know, it's already backed so you have your proof. You don't have to do that thing. And as I was going along, I realized I was giving everybody readings, and so I wasn't, I was kind of using the rules. But, you know, people were asking me about significant others and things that you couldn't get from handwriting analysis. You know, you could use the the,

you know, probables based on law of averages, but not and so then I was like, okay, I can do readings. And I love doing reading.

So I'm going to pop back in. So when you, when you realize that Montessori was no longer there for you, how did you make your leap to the next thing? Or was it like a sidestep that made it a leap to the next thing? Well, I just, I pulled back because I, you know, my I didn't feel like I had the option of just stopping for

different reasons. So I pulled back. I worked less, and, you know, I had kids, and I was married at the time to their dad, but he was traveling a lot for work, so I was the, you know, main parent. And so there was just so much I could do. And I kind of felt like I just kept going. So I was like, Well, you know, I actually started doing my yoga, you know, I just wanted to do yoga, like, I know, I knew I needed to do yoga, and so I did yoga, and then I loved it so much. And this was decades ago, like before, you know, you could do a, you know, certificate, certification on over the weekend or something, you know, but there was a place around the corner. And so I was like, Well, this is what I need to do now and then, every you know. And so it was like that. I just did what I could, whatever next step I could do while I stayed in that community, you know, where my children were going to school. And

so it was, you know, I sidestepped it. And then I not sidestep. I continued following my spiritual breadcrumbs, you know, just staying within the community. So I really stayed in the nest, like you were saying.

You know, no one kicked me out. Maybe that would have been good.

And then finally, you know, I started my business, my body work business, massage for moms, and would just do it when I could, in the afternoons and evenings and stuff. And then

that was never going to be my the end game, but that was, that was the kind of leaping point I could leave my Montessori to do body work. So I started that business. And then, you know, and then I had this dream, actually, somewhere in there, where it was like, choose herbalism.

So I, you know, incorporated that. And anyway, so I finally took the leap of faith. And I was still married at the time. I was got separated a year later. And I might not have made that leap if I were, you know, not if I were not married. You know, I didn't have, I so I had, did have a little bit of security, and then I sort of did get kicked out of the nest and,

and then, you know, when I A couple years later, when I really needed to financially support myself, that was when I really got kicked out of the nest and, and figured it out, and figured it out fast. So,

so, yeah, so I did kind of do little little little steps and then a big leap.

Well, that's that's cool. That's very interesting. So,

Lori, I know you are a board certified health coach, and we've talked to a lot of people. I'm not sure we've spoken to a board certified health coach. Tell us a little bit about what that what that work is, and how you help your clients. So

I know that there's this whole thing in our industry about, like, imposter syndrome and like, you know, put yourself out there, you know, you're going to feel like you don't really know anything, but that's just imposter syndrome. And I, I think sometimes you really do need to learn more things before you put yourself out there. And when I started my, you know, I started my work with nutrition. I mean, decades ago, really, and I started working with a health sciences company and and started helping people optimize their nutrition, and then I helped people get off sugar, and I ran groups and and so again, sort of one step at a time, like, well, what's the next thing? What's the next thing? And then I finally got certified as a health coach, and already had a lot of information. I already studied herbal medicine for three years. Had been studying health and wellness since I was 16 years old, and practicing it and integrating it into my own life. And

so I got my certificate, which was great, and I officially launched my health coach program, and then and I just felt like I wasn't helping people make the transformations that I knew were possible. And I was like, What do I need? What do I you know? How what? What do I need to know in order to help people and.

So I decided to take the board certification exam, which is the gold standard in health and wellness. And what I didn't know when I decided to do that was that it actually was going to teach me the thing I needed to know, which was how to actually coach people,

and a lot of people who work in health and wellness, they know a lot about health and wellness. They know a lot of how about how you know what people need to do, but they don't know a lot about how to actually help them do it. And so that's what the board certification training is is about. And I've actually worked with board certified health coaches that still don't know how to coach so well. But it's really about behavior change and really creating new habits and helping people get off the on again, off again. You know, cycles that they people tend to be in terms of, like, developing healthy habits. So,

so that's what that means for me. And so I've been able to integrate, then, all of my intuitive self, you know, like when I coach people, I'm right there with them, and I feel like all my training as a body worker and a yoga instructor, and all that has brought me in to my body. So I've trained myself, and I've actually done a lot of chakra work again decades ago, to do this, to actually tune my body as like an instrument, and then be present with someone when I'm talking to them, so I'm connected to my intuition and weaving in all the skills as well of you know, behavior change and coaching, this is actually the perfect time to talk about the sixth chakra, because that's why we are having you here as a guest. You know, because you're an amazing person, and you use your intuition and you help others really listen to themselves. So

for me, that the really quick, down and dirty for a six chakra is intuition. It's a form of trust. It's an inner wisdom that you're listening to sure you know is your I'm sure you have a more honed in definition with all your experience, especially as a yogini, right about, about what six, what six chakra is, and how do you help your clients? You know you and I had talked about this before. We don't talk about, hey, you're using your intuition. You just, you're feeding them stuff, so they start trusting their intuition and listening to it. So tell us how you help your clients be more holistic, which includes really trusting their intuition. Mm, hmm. Well, just the only thing I would add to six chakra is clarity. There you go. That's good. And so I feel like take the process that I take people through

is helps them find clarity about what being healthy means to them and what,

what a question that I sometimes ask is what's wanted and needed

now and

and also, I do a Meditation, more of a somatic meditation, where I bring people into their bodies, because I personally, I actually be curious to know, you know how you feel about this, but I feel like

clarity is, you know, is by being present in your own body.

And so I help people connect into their bodies as a way of accessing their intuition and their their inner guidance and their inner wisdom. And then, you know, the questions I ask people, and some are standard and some aren't. They're just come from being in the moment with them. And you know,

kind of just the right question coming at the right moment. So,

and then me my own intuitive hit about what someone is saying to me and my impression, and so sharing that. And then, you know, people will say, Yes, that's exactly it, or no, that's not it at all.

And then clarify. So it's that dialog as well. So it's, it's all of that. It's questions that I ask. It's bringing people into their bodies, and then it's me being present with them with my own intuition, helping them get to their own clarity and inner knowing, well, that's great. Lori, I'm wondering if you can share with our listeners, maybe either a real client success story, or kind of a amalgamation of some clients you know kind of rolled together. Who are they and what problems?

Do they bring to you? And how do you help them solve those problems? And, you know, where, where did they start? Where did they finish? Because that's people are always excited to, you

know, hear about other people's transformations. Mm, hmm, well, I there's kind of a couple of different camps of people. Some of them are people who have put their self care on the back burner for years and decades and don't feel good,

and they kind of realize if they don't make changes to their health now, they're going to die or decline very quickly, like they see the road ahead and it doesn't look good, and they want to do something, and often there's space in their lives to do it.

And then another sort of Camp is people where something has shifted in their lives. They've had a baby, and they're going to getting ready to go back to work, or they've gone back to work

and or they've, you know, they're a working mom with two little kids, which is kind of where I was when I started on this path whole, you know, really full on.

And they need to help figuring out their self care.

You know, given this, their circumstances, their lives in the moment and then that ultimately will keep them from ending up, years and decades, putting their self care in the back burner. So those are generally the two camps. And so I help people figure out,

you know again, what, where they where they are, and what and what they want for themselves. And I do a visualization exercises for people that are want to and are willing to play with me, I like to say and, but if not, I ask them, you know, I try to tap into what they envision for themselves, and, and so. But it's the it's not like a carrot on a stick, like I, you know, I want to,

I don't know, I, I so don't work like that. I forgotten even an example, but it's more about how you want to live your life, how you want to show up, how you want to feel in your body, like that's the vision statement and so that every time. And then I help them. Okay, so given where you are and where you want to be, what, what do you need to change? And people know, and what do you need to change that you're ready to change. And so that's how kind of we build. And then we I take them through the process where they start doing, you know, whatever it is, and they choose, maybe it's, you know, drinking more starting by just drinking more water, or going for a walk every day, or whatever it is, you know, or we find that actually we need to address cell stress management first, because that's the thing that's making them eat too much. And

or they need community, whatever it is,

and so it's very individualized, as you can see. And then they end up feeling, and then each win, you know, it's like they actually get to experience themselves as that person that is, that is showing up the way they want to show up, and is feeling how they want to feel in their bodies. And so I'm always making that helping them make that connection, and that's part of what helps keep them going. And people just end up feeling, well, the whole process is fun, it's empowering.

And,

you know, people feel good about themselves and about how, how they're creating their their lives. You're basically a result of what you do, how you spend your days, your habits.

And yeah, they feel empowered, and they feel proud of themselves, and they have tools to work with.

One of my favorite stories that when you and I had,

when you and I had a visit with each other, was that you had two clients, and they seemingly had the same want, you know what I mean? They wanted to have the same result, similar result. And one person, you took them on an emotional path,

and the other one you did, you're like, Oh, she just needed to to learn how to manage her calendar, manage your time. Mm, hmm, right. Yes. Emotional one was very practical, yes. Loved how you have the the

wherewithal to do to do that. Where it's very practical has, have any of your clients been super surprised where.

Or they come at you very emotionally and and then you do something as practical as well. Let's just fix your calendar. And they're like, holy crap. You know, that's all it took. Yeah? I mean, yes, that's 100% people

sometimes don't realize how simple the solution is. And actually one client I worked with, she did incredible at

one, shifting her perspective of her self care being instead of being selfless, and then when she kind of got to the end of her rope, being selfish like she needed to take it, we first worked on just being self full and just coming, you know her, you know, giving herself what she needed. So there was that aspect. But then it was like, well, just when you get home, you know, with your girls, at the end of the day, sit down and have a snack.

And she was like, Yeah,

okay, you know. And it was again, so simple, and then later on, she came back to me because she needed more of her own life, you know, like, what do I want? What do I want to do? You know, my husband gets to go do this and that, and I kind of feel like I'm missing out in life. And it's like, well, you know, what are the things you love? And you know, I just want, you know I want. And again, it was so simple. It was like, I can just take my kids to the farmers market, which is where I love to go. And so again, sometimes it is like, these really simple, kind of obvious things, and that's why I feel like people need a coach for those kinds of things, things that are so, you know, to me, it's like, Well, why don't you just do that? Or, okay, let's, it just seems like you're really disorganized. Let's, you know, clean up your calendar or whatever. And, yeah, so sometimes the simplest solutions can have the most powerful impact. Oh, I love that. I love that. That's a that's a great summary of a true finding, a true finding in many, many ways. Thank you, Lori, we've had a great time

with you today. Is there anything you'd like to share with our listeners? Something on your website or upcoming gig, or well, so I am.
