I’ve been thinking about something lately, and I want you to understand what really guides me. Not just what I say, but how I try to live my life day to day. This is something that matters to me, and I want you to hear it clearly.
I’m thankful for my faith. It’s something I come back to, especially when I don’t get things right or when life feels off. There are times I fall short, times I wish I handled things differently, but my faith reminds me who I want to be and helps me reset.
When I think about it, I keep coming back to this idea—what would it look like to live more like Jesus? To love people, show kindness, have patience, forgive, and care about others. I don’t do that perfectly, not even close, but it gives me something to come back to again and again.
I want you to know what guides me and why it matters to me. And as you grow, I hope you find something that helps guide you too—something that brings you back to who you want to be and helps you live the kind of life that really matters.

Mr. Funky Teacher:
This is Mr. Funky Teacher. And this is Funky Letters to My Kids.
Today’s episode is called What Guides Me.
This one is for all three of you—Mya, Carter, and Gavin.
I’ve been thinking about something lately…
What actually guides me.
Not just what I say…
But how I try to live.
And I want to take a second and say something that I’m thankful for.
I’m thankful for my faith.
I’m thankful for the way I was raised to believe in God and to follow Jesus.
Because that’s something that’s shaped how I see the world…
How I try to treat people.
I don’t always get it right.
There are times I fall short…
Times I say things I shouldn’t…
Or don’t respond the way I wish I would have.
But I keep coming back to this idea:
What would it look like to live more like Jesus?
To love people.
To show kindness.
To have patience.
To forgive.
To care about people who are struggling.
That’s what I try to come back to.
And I want you to know—this isn’t about being perfect.
It’s not about having all the answers.
It’s about having something that guides you.
Something that helps you come back to who you want to be.
For me, that’s my faith.
That’s believing that God is with me…
That I’m not doing life on my own…
And that even when I mess up—
There’s grace.
There’s grace.
And grace is something that means so much to me.
I’m so thankful for God’s grace.
There’s forgiveness.
And there’s always a chance to do better.
As you grow up, you’re going to make your own choices…
Your own decisions…
Your own beliefs.
But I want you to know what guides me…
And why it matters to me.
Because when I think about how I want to live…
It comes back to this:
Love people.
Do what’s right.
Show grace.
And stay grounded in something bigger than yourself.
And I hope that as you grow, you find something that guides you like that too.
If there’s one thing I want you to take away from this, it’s this:
Let your life be guided by something that helps you be your best self.
Something that reminds you how to treat people.
Something that brings you back when you lose your way.
And I want to end this with something a little different.
I want to say a prayer.
God, thank You for my kids.
Thank You for who they are and who they are becoming.
Help them grow into people who care about others…
Who do what’s right…
Who live with kindness and purpose.
Guide them, be with them, and help them know they are loved—
By their family… and by You.
In Your name we pray… Amen.
And at the end of the day, this is what it comes down to:
Be who you are.
Treat people right.
Keep growing.
And remember—you can change the world by how you live every day.
