“Tail

Dream”,

a

poem

by

A.

Griffin

While

dreaming,
I

wished

for

a

tail,
not

detailing
its

length;
and

so

it

burst

forth

from

my

back,
four

meters

long,
I

think.


Erupting
out

of

nothing
from

the

bottom

of

my

spine,
a

limb
limber and

lovely -
instantaneously

mine,
nerve

endings,
all

connecting,
letting

me

move

it
as

I

willed,
and

delighted

as

I

was,
I

simply

couldn't

keep

it

still,


I

wagged

its length ecstatically,
my

heart

aloft

with

thrill,
running

my

fingers
though

my

fur,
snow

white,
and

soft

as

silk.


Sinuating,
stimulating,
all aglow

with

satisfaction,
overwhelming

me

with

whimsy
till

I

couldn't

keep

from

laughing,


back

in

the 3D

world,
where

I

was

made
of

flesh

and

blood,
and

in

my

sleep,
I

laughed

out

loud,
till

I

woke

myself

up.


And

though

the

room

was

dark,
I

felt

a

glowing

from

my coccyx,
from

which

the

tail
in

my

dream
flowed
like

water

from

a

faucet.


How

real-life

nerves
were

triggered

there
I

really

can't

explain

it,
though

I

could

guess
my

dream-world

tail
had

triggered

something

ancient.




While

dreaming,
I

wished

for

a

tail,
not

detailing
its

length;
and

when

I'd

woken

up,
it

was

still

there,
unseen,
I

think -


though

physically

dismissed,
the

joy it

brought
persisted

long,
as

the

stars

began

to

vanish,
in

the

mist
a midst

the

dawn.
