Shownotes

The central theme of this podcast episode revolves around the indispensable nature of prayer and communal support within the Christian faith. We delve into the notion that believers must actively engage in good works as a reflection of their faith, emphasizing that genuine belief manifests itself through actions that honor God. The dialogue encourages listeners to embrace the power of prayer, both as a source of personal support and as a means of interceding for others, thereby fostering a spirit of community and mutual upliftment. We also explore the significance of remaining steadfast in one's devotion to God and the transformative impact that such commitment can have on one's life. Ultimately, this episode serves as a clarion call for Christians to embody their faith through actionable expressions of love and service, reinforcing the belief that our spiritual journey is inherently intertwined with our relationships with one another and with God.

In an engaging and thought-provoking manner, the episode addresses the often-overlooked subject of good works as an expression of genuine faith. Dr. Spoon references the biblical text from Titus, emphasizing the importance of believers devoting themselves to good works as a natural outpouring of their faith. This assertion challenges the notion that salvation is solely a matter of belief, instead positing that true faith manifests in tangible actions that reflect one’s commitment to Christ. The discourse further navigates the complexities of how faith and works coexist, articulating that while salvation is not earned by deeds, a life transformed by faith will invariably produce fruit. Listeners are encouraged to examine their own lives for evidence of this fruitfulness, thus prompting a self-reflective journey that underscores the transformative power of faith. Throughout the episode, Dr. Spoon’s earnestness and clarity illuminate the path for those desiring to reconcile their beliefs with their actions in a meaningful way.

Takeaways:

Speaker A:

Hello, everybody.

Speaker A:

When it's cold outside, I've got my.

Speaker A:

Here's what's coming up on today's experience.

Speaker A:

It's Dr.

Speaker A:

Dave's devotional Diamonds of the Day, also known as DDDDDDDS, where my daily devotions become some of our spiritual reflections.

Speaker A:

Sound effects placed throughout the show which have nothing to do with life.

Speaker A:

But the Bible teaches there's a time to laugh.

Speaker A:

That kind of sounds like an evil laugh.

Speaker A:

I'm not sure that's a good one.

Speaker A:

Anyway, the review of the goofiness, which proves Jesus is coming back sooner than you think.

Speaker A:

We hope before this show is over, life lessons for our faith that we could actually use probably won't if we sit on our blessed assurance humor that will force you to think, why does this guy have a radio show?

Speaker A:

Well, there's nowhere else.

Speaker A:

Then I can go and talk as much as I do.

Speaker A:

So I just say thank you.

Speaker A:

Also, Bible trivia for fake and yet somehow real cool prizes, your phone calls and more.

Speaker A:

Living this life, not always easy running in this race.

Speaker A:

Welcome to the David Spoon Experience, local, national and heavenly talk.

Speaker A:

My name is Dr.

Speaker A:

David Spoon.

Speaker A:

I'll be your host for the next 5,400,000 milliseconds.

Speaker A:

Get ready for one of the more bizarre experiences on live radio.

Speaker A:

Here is the key to the show.

Speaker A:

We don't know what we're doing.

Speaker A:

We have no idea what's gonna happen and we don't care.

Speaker A:

But for the next few minutes, I wanna talk faith with you.

Speaker A:

So here we go.

Speaker A:

We're asking questions about living life as a Christian.

Speaker A:

That thingy right there.

Speaker A:

All of us have to do it.

Speaker A:

It's an important part of the process.

Speaker A:

Here is your opening question in this show.

Speaker A:

Existent personality in our.

Speaker A:

Oh, what's the word I'm looking for in our niche for this show, One thing we have are people who listen to this show far, far better at this task than I.

Speaker A:

And they are willing to pray, pray, pray, pray, pray.

Speaker A:

I don't care if it's something good, bad or indifferent.

Speaker A:

They believe that God's partnership, as I believe God's partnership in every issue, in every element in life is critical for the Christian.

Speaker A:

And so we're asking you, because you and I and everyone like us go through quite a few different challenges from time to time.

Speaker A:

Quite a few opportunities, quite a few blessings, quite a few trials.

Speaker A:

All of that, we're asking, what can our prayer warriors, the people who listen to this show, what can our prayer warriors pray for you about?

Speaker A:

And isn't that great that there's people willing to pray for you?

Speaker A:

That's how much love God has for you.

Speaker A:

He has put throughout his body people in different places, from different backgrounds who are willing to commit to praying on your behalf, seeking the help, the grace, the mercy, the wisdom, and the perfect will of God in your circumstance.

Speaker A:

Wow, that's beautiful.

Speaker A:

Look, if you've got that going on and you have a need, you need to reach out to us.

Speaker A:

If you have something that you're teetering with, trying to figure it out, and you need the wisdom of God, you need to reach out to us.

Speaker A:

You need to respond to that.

Speaker A:

If you have something else going on, an opinion about something else, or just a comment, now, you know, our gear is to help people draw closer to the Lord.

Speaker A:

It's not that politics are bad.

Speaker A:

We support the shows that are before us and after us that go into that realm.

Speaker A:

Our show just goes about it a little different because we need a little bit different, because I'm a little bit different.

Speaker A:

And the reason that we do that is because we ultimately believe the greatest solution to everything in all of existence is more of God.

Speaker A:

That's what.

Speaker A:

And so we encourage that.

Speaker A:

So you have this opportunity if you want to share, if you got something that's on your mind, great.

Speaker A:

Our goal is to draw closer to the Lord.

Speaker A:

of it this way, as in Hebrews:

Speaker A:

So if you have an opinion, a comment, a thought, or a question, or you want to let us know, hey, you need this for prayer?

Speaker A:

Hey, reach out to us.

Speaker A:

Just give us a call.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

Well, by golly, you'll end up talking to Jammin Jacob.

Speaker A:

Talking to Jammin Jacob.

Speaker A:

That is like heading into the week with great faith and expectation.

Speaker A:

Thank you, David.

Speaker A:

Happy Monday.

Speaker A:

Happy Monday to you Monday, my friend.

Speaker A:

I hope you had a very nice weekend.

Speaker A:

Probably not quite as busy as my weekend, but I'm just wanting to make sure that it's a good weekend for you.

Speaker A:

Was it a good weekend for you?

Speaker A:

It was a good weekend.

Speaker A:

And yes, I'm going to take a guess and say it was not as busy as your weekend.

Speaker A:

That is going to Be true, as we had the three grandchildren staying at our house from Friday night up until they were just recently picked up this afternoon.

Speaker A:

So we'll get into that later on.

Speaker A:

But I will tell you, it's a little bit different when they all three come into the bedroom at the same time.

Speaker A:

We're in that perfect age between 8 and 4, 4, 6 and 8, and they all just jump on the bed.

Speaker A:

It's not even, wake up, Grandpa.

Speaker A:

No, no, no, no, no.

Speaker A:

Just jump on the bed.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So that's a little bit different.

Speaker A:

You gotta get used to that.

Speaker A:

But anyhow, it was nonetheless marvelous.

Speaker A:

It was great.

Speaker A:

We had to, you know, had to drop the law down a few times, but they were actually very, very, very good.

Speaker A:

So it was a great blessing for everybody.

Speaker A:

So I do want to let people know that you are able to call us at any point if you want to do that.

Speaker A:

If you've got a prayer request, something you need prayer for.

Speaker A:

Additionally.

Speaker A:

Additionally, we give you the opportunity to text.

Speaker A:

Texting is really comfortable for some people, and we think it's cool.

Speaker A:

All you gotta do is text.

Speaker A:

It's a different number than you call.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

Or on top of that, you can also email davidmustincrease.org david.

Speaker A:

Cause that's my name with a circle.

Speaker A:

He mustincrease.org, all one thing.

Speaker A:

So you can email, you can text, you can give us a call.

Speaker A:

It can be for prayer requests, it can be for a praise report, something maybe that's going on in your life and you're like, I wanna share it because I know the Lord is doing it.

Speaker A:

And it's kind of like your testimony and you're in the middle of it and you know it's going, and you know the Lord's to bless you in it.

Speaker A:

And you want to make that proclamation, do it right here, right now.

Speaker A:

That's phenomenal.

Speaker A:

It's a great thing to be able to do.

Speaker A:

We do want to encourage you.

Speaker A:

If you've got something, a praise report or a prayer request, or if you've got something you just want to share that you would have that opportunity to do so, to bless the body.

Speaker A:

That is the goal.

Speaker A:

To be a blessing to one another, to carry one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Speaker A:

That's what we're looking for a couple things I do want to update you on.

Speaker A:

Little bit later on.

Speaker A:

We'll be praying for Al.

Speaker A:

One of our great, great, great listeners is on a trip with his wife.

Speaker A:

A little bit of getaway and spend some time together kind of trip.

Speaker A:

We just want to ask the Lord to bless that.

Speaker A:

In fact, let's start off by asking for that blessing because they're already on the trip.

Speaker A:

And I'm sure that whenever you go on a trip, you know, till you get everything settled in, it gets a little tough.

Speaker A:

But we do want them to really be blessed.

Speaker A:

So let's pray for that.

Speaker A:

Father, we come before you right now.

Speaker A:

We thank you, we praise you, we acknowledge you.

Speaker A:

You are the king of the universe.

Speaker A:

Nothing happens that escapes your attention.

Speaker A:

You are in charge.

Speaker A:

And you, Lord, love us so much that even after all the dumb things we say and do, you still put your arms around us.

Speaker A:

You still comfort us by the power of your Holy Spirit.

Speaker A:

You still say to us, I gave everything to you when I sacrificed Jesus for you.

Speaker A:

And you say it to us every day.

Speaker A:

So we really do want to thank you for what you've done for us, all of it.

Speaker A:

We lift up our brother Al and his wife Lori on this trip and we are simply asking that you would just give them this great refreshment renewal, kind of like a, a redo, a Timmy do over kind of thing, Lord, where they just have this great time together, nourishing and strengthening and blessing to each other and finding that core strength in you.

Speaker A:

Bless their time and encourage them.

Speaker A:

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Savior.

Speaker A:

And we trust you for it.

Speaker A:

Amen and Amen.

Speaker A:

Couple of updates I do want to give you.

Speaker A:

So our phenomenal jam and Jacob got the materials done for the recording of the Faith that Pleases God and he has fine tuned it.

Speaker A:

I mean, it is like El perfecto.

Speaker A:

I have submitted it over the weekend.

Speaker A:

It is in review and will most likely pass sometime this week.

Speaker A:

And with that going on, we'll be releasing that book sometime either in the middle, end or beginning part of next week.

Speaker A:

The faith that pleases God.

Speaker A:

And that faith is essential because the Bible is very clear that without faith it's impossible to please him.

Speaker A:

For those who come to God must believe that he is and a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Speaker A:

So we'll have that available.

Speaker A:

Everything is looking really good.

Speaker A:

I will give you the updates as that goes along.

Speaker A:

I believe tomorrow.

Speaker A:

I actually thought it was today, but I think I'm wrong.

Speaker A:

I Believe tomorrow technically is going to be our six year anniversary.

Speaker A:

Technically.

Speaker A:

See, that's pretty good, right?

Speaker A:

So I'm pretty serious.

Speaker A:

And the reason is because we actually started on March 18th.

Speaker A:

Today's March 17th.

Speaker A:

And so I did all the numbers and I even did some additional calculus to try and figure it out.

Speaker A:

If I say today is the anniversary, it's actually five years.

Speaker A:

.:

Speaker A:

So I think I'll just wait till tomorrow to say tomorrow is our six year anniversary.

Speaker A:

That means we've been doing the show, we filled six years.

Speaker A:

It's just really cool.

Speaker A:

Probably about:

Speaker A:

And it's just been a blessing and we love it and we hope by the grace of God, we'll be able to continue.

Speaker A:

That's up to the Lord.

Speaker A:

That's not up to you or me or anybody else.

Speaker A:

God's in charge, right?

Speaker A:

I am the master of my destiny.

Speaker A:

Until a piano falls on your head.

Speaker A:

So I just want to point that out to everybody just to keep that humble thing going.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Okay, cool.

Speaker A:

All right, last little update and then we are going to get into the teaching.

Speaker A:

I do want to give you an update on the kids.

Speaker A:

So we had the three kids.

Speaker A:

We had Carter, Bear, Stella and Cash at our house since Friday afternoon all the way through.

Speaker A:

And their folks are on a trip, on a business trip.

Speaker A:

And it was kind of a last minute thing and they did really good.

Speaker A:

My big concern was actually for Cashy, the youngest of the three, because he's never stayed over at our house before.

Speaker A:

And so sometimes when you stay over at somebody's house and you're like a four year old, it's like scary.

Speaker A:

And I remember I had two sets of grandparents and one of my sets of grandparents were totally awesome.

Speaker A:

You just totally felt comfortable.

Speaker A:

Then the other one was like, you know, kind of like.

Speaker A:

So I was really highly aware that I wanted him to have a real comfort zone.

Speaker A:

So he always felt comfortable and really made that my goal and made that my prayer.

Speaker A:

And he was so, so cute, so beautiful.

Speaker A:

And he said today before I had to go down to the studio before they got picked up, and he said, I don't want to leave here ever.

Speaker A:

And I said, that's great.

Speaker A:

That's not how I feel.

Speaker A:

But yeah, I just think that's really great that you said that.

Speaker A:

People are like, that's mean.

Speaker A:

Oh, well, you like that?

Speaker A:

That was a good one.

Speaker A:

You're like, I appreciate that, but you will not be here Forever.

Speaker A:

It is awesome to have you here.

Speaker A:

Go home.

Speaker A:

Anyway.

Speaker A:

All right, let me get into the teaching.

Speaker A:

Oh, laugh a little.

Speaker A:

It won't hurt you.

Speaker A:

We've got some teaching that we're doing in this next 60 minutes that I've never taught this before, and I don't know how it's going to go.

Speaker A:

So I have this little reservation that's going on in my brain just so you can know.

Speaker A:

All right, so let me go into what we are teaching.

Speaker A:

And right now, we're in Titus, we're in chapter three, and we're in verse eight.

Speaker A:

It's pretty fascinating sometimes when the authors in the Bible write.

Speaker A:

You know, sometimes they write to emphasize something, to really go after something.

Speaker A:

So in this particular portion, we have that taking place.

Speaker A:

Listen to what Paul writes to Titus.

Speaker A:

He says this in verse 8 of Titus, chapter 3.

Speaker A:

He says, this saying is trustworthy.

Speaker A:

I want you to insist on these things so that those who have believed God might be careful to devote themselves to good works.

Speaker A:

So I want to talk about this and kind of tear it apart so that we don't get really weird on it.

Speaker A:

When he goes on and says this, emphasis, this saying is trustworthy.

Speaker A:

He's not saying his other statements are not trustworthy.

Speaker A:

He's making emphasis.

Speaker A:

He's trying to make a point.

Speaker A:

He's trying to tell them, look, this is really, really important.

Speaker A:

And you might be saying, well, how important, David?

Speaker A:

And then here my response would be really important.

Speaker A:

And he goes on to say this.

Speaker A:

He says, I want you to insist on these things.

Speaker A:

So it's like he's really telling Titus, hey, this part's really important, brother.

Speaker A:

And I want you to really kind of like.

Speaker A:

I want you to really handle this intently because it's important.

Speaker A:

And if you just consider how this is being shared with him, right, how he's saying that to him.

Speaker A:

Remember, this is the letter to Titus.

Speaker A:

Titus is gonna get the letter.

Speaker A:

He's gonna read the letter.

Speaker A:

And he's like, okay, all right, Titus, listen.

Speaker A:

This saying is trustworthy.

Speaker A:

And I just want you to insist on these things.

Speaker A:

It's very personalized.

Speaker A:

And so if you think of how he's communicating it, he's communicating it under this kind of umbrella, that some things are not negotiable.

Speaker A:

And what I'm about to tell you is an absolute.

Speaker A:

And you think, well, how does that work?

Speaker A:

If you listen to this show, you know, if your first time listening.

Speaker A:

Thank you for listening.

Speaker A:

If you can stick around and get through all the headaches that I might end up giving You.

Speaker A:

I think it'll end up being a blessing for some of you.

Speaker A:

But here's the bottom line.

Speaker A:

I'm a huge proponent, a big, big, big guy in making sure you understand there is one way in to the kingdom of God, that is through Jesus Christ.

Speaker A:

There is one mediator between God and man, that is Jesus Christ.

Speaker A:

There is one.

Speaker A:

Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life.

Speaker A:

No man comes to the Father but by me.

Speaker A:

There are popular TV people that go, well, he didn't mean it.

Speaker A:

Okay, that's dumb.

Speaker A:

Yes, he did.

Speaker A:

Of course he meant it.

Speaker A:

That's why he said it.

Speaker A:

He is the door.

Speaker A:

He is the gate.

Speaker A:

There is no way to get into heaven, God's home, unless you go through Jesus the door, Jesus, the gate.

Speaker A:

There's no way to do it.

Speaker A:

He is the one person being that bridges between the divine and the human.

Speaker A:

And why is that?

Speaker A:

Because he is birthed by the Holy Spirit and by Mary.

Speaker A:

I was thinking about this the other day, because in theology, you get into these much deeper components.

Speaker A:

You get in to start ripping these things apart.

Speaker A:

And one of the things in theology for the people that teach it, is Jesus is not half man, half God.

Speaker A:

Okay?

Speaker A:

That's.

Speaker A:

That's us trying to use math to define an infinite being.

Speaker A:

Infinite already pushes past the concept of math.

Speaker A:

It's not a finite being.

Speaker A:

It's an infinite being.

Speaker A:

There's no way to even tag it in math.

Speaker A:

Jesus is fully human because he's born of a woman.

Speaker A:

He doesn't get to be less human, but he's fully God because he's born of the Holy Spirit.

Speaker A:

And the key in that, people will go, well, how can it be 100% and 100% and then have those 200% make a new 100%?

Speaker A:

That's exactly what it does.

Speaker A:

He's not 200% of a person.

Speaker A:

He's fully man and fully God.

Speaker A:

And so we need to understand it is through Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone, period.

Speaker A:

And I don't want you to miss the point.

Speaker A:

It is through Jesus Christ that we are saved.

Speaker A:

But you will also, if you listen to this show, know I also add another component to that, and that is simply this.

Speaker A:

Once you are in, through Jesus Christ, once you are in the kingdom, you get to find out that it's a lot more variety in the kingdom, not getting in the kingdom, but once you're in the kingdom, which is why we have different denominations, different groups, different things that people say.

Speaker A:

People lean towards this, they lean towards that.

Speaker A:

They love this, they love that they love this type of worship, that type of worship, this, that, whatever.

Speaker A:

So what?

Speaker A:

Jesus defined the body for the people of God as a body.

Speaker A:

I mean, that's what's so funny.

Speaker A:

Jesus is the head, right?

Speaker A:

Okay, right.

Speaker A:

And then you have all the other body parts and there's a lot of them.

Speaker A:

So Paul, in his communication with Titus, he's like, look, you know, there's some things that are non negotiable.

Speaker A:

Look, getting in through Jesus, that's a non negotiable.

Speaker A:

Once you're in, there's other things that are a little fearful.

Speaker A:

But what I'm about to tell you, Titus, is simply this.

Speaker A:

This is a non negotiable.

Speaker A:

There is an absolute requirement for everybody, broad stroke, to follow into this.

Speaker A:

And then he says this.

Speaker A:

Those who believe in God might be careful to devote themselves to good works.

Speaker A:

He's telling his disciple he wants those who have believed, who believe in the gospel, believe him in Jesus Christ, to commit, to commit to good works.

Speaker A:

It doesn't mean their salvation is by good works.

Speaker A:

That's a huge leap.

Speaker A:

That's not what he's saying.

Speaker A:

What he's saying is, listen, if you're a Christian and you follow the name of Christ and you believe in God, there's going to be some reflection of this in your life.

Speaker A:

Listen to this saying, I love this thing.

Speaker A:

It's so good.

Speaker A:

Your faith has some shoes to it.

Speaker A:

That means you're supposed to walk it.

Speaker A:

Your faith has some pants to it.

Speaker A:

Put them on, you're supposed to wear them.

Speaker A:

Your faith has some shirts to it.

Speaker A:

Put it on there.

Speaker A:

You're supposed to wear those.

Speaker A:

The idea is that your faith has life to it.

Speaker A:

As you go into James and you see, faith without works is dead.

Speaker A:

It's not contrary at all, it's just complimentary.

Speaker A:

It's simply this.

Speaker A:

You can't have a genuine faith and not have something come of it.

Speaker A:

That makes no sense.

Speaker A:

You can't go, I have faith.

Speaker A:

Okay, well, how have you exercised that faith?

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

I just have faith and I have faith and I've never really exercised it.

Speaker A:

And I don't really walk by faith.

Speaker A:

I just have faith because I say I have faith.

Speaker A:

There's no faith there.

Speaker A:

I have faith.

Speaker A:

What are you doing?

Speaker A:

I'm spending time with the invisible God every day.

Speaker A:

See that?

Speaker A:

That's devoted to good work.

Speaker A:

That's a proof.

Speaker A:

That's a good thing.

Speaker A:

I like to fellowship with my brothers and sisters because we are one true family.

Speaker A:

There's faith in action.

Speaker A:

What I'M trying to tell you is that what Paul is saying is, look, it's important for us not to go around.

Speaker A:

And part of this discussion he's having, just so you can know, and this comes from some of his other letters, is people were trying to use the fact that they're saved as a license to sin, which is called licentiousness.

Speaker A:

And Paul's like going, no, no.

Speaker A:

If you have a genuine faith in Jesus, you're not looking for a license to sin.

Speaker A:

You're looking for a way to please your king.

Speaker A:

And one of the ways you do that is do good things.

Speaker A:

I know it's almost so stupid for me to try and say this, but don't be a snooky person.

Speaker A:

Be a nice person.

Speaker A:

That's what he's saying.

Speaker A:

You think?

Speaker A:

Does he say that deeper?

Speaker A:

No, just be nice sometimes.

Speaker A:

Do nice things.

Speaker A:

Kindness is one of the fruits of the spirit.

Speaker A:

Work on that.

Speaker A:

It's really important for us to grasp that.

Speaker A:

Here's the thing about that, and I know I'm going on a rant, but this is a good one right here.

Speaker A:

It is impossible to draw near to God and not have that impact your life.

Speaker A:

You can't have that.

Speaker A:

You can't get close to God and have nothing from the Lord dust over onto you.

Speaker A:

That's not possible.

Speaker A:

As Moses got closer and closer, his face began to shine more and more as he was spending more time with God.

Speaker A:

Now, that doesn't mean you're going to do everything perfect.

Speaker A:

I wish people would stop saying that Christians aren't perfect.

Speaker A:

You know, that we're forgiven.

Speaker A:

We're working on the process of reflecting Jesus Christ piece by piece.

Speaker A:

But we're not perfect.

Speaker A:

We're just happy.

Speaker A:

There's forgiveness, we're happy.

Speaker A:

There's redemption.

Speaker A:

We're happy that the Lord's in that.

Speaker A:

And so that doesn't mean we say everything perfect.

Speaker A:

It doesn't mean we think everything perfect.

Speaker A:

It doesn't mean we do everything perfect.

Speaker A:

That's not what it says.

Speaker A:

It does mean, though, that there's a conscious commitment to doing things that will honor God.

Speaker A:

Oh, it does mean that.

Speaker A:

And the closer we get to God, if it's genuine, the more he reflects on us.

Speaker A:

It's just scriptural.

Speaker A:

You can't change that.

Speaker A:

And actually, I want to say this because I kind of want to be.

Speaker A:

I want to say it wisely if I can.

Speaker A:

There's nothing weird about that.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

I mean, when you connect to somebody who is, let's say, a mentor or somebody that you look up to whether it's your pastor or whatever it is, it's your spouse or brother or sister.

Speaker A:

I don't even.

Speaker A:

None of that even matters.

Speaker A:

When you do that, you begin to take some of those characteristics from that person a little bit, added a little bit more into you.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

We're hanging out with the Lord.

Speaker A:

We've taken some more of his characteristics as he's revealed it in His Word, in our relationship with him in fellowship, that we understand him more and more.

Speaker A:

And it's really just this simple.

Speaker A:

If we're hanging out with God, that should rub off on us, right?

Speaker A:

I wasn't going to use this, but I will.

Speaker A:

I don't know why I'm bringing this up, but I just want to say if you worked in a rib place, a barbecue rib place, right?

Speaker A:

Tell me if this is true.

Speaker A:

And you worked there and you worked really hard there and you were part of it.

Speaker A:

Do you think when you left for the day, you might have a little bit of smell of the barbecue and the rib and the restaurant there with you?

Speaker A:

Yeah, of course.

Speaker A:

You would.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

So when you're hanging out with God and you're in fellowship with him and you're reading His Word and you're praying, doing all these things, do you think that might be a little bit of a rub off from your engagement with God unto you into your life?

Speaker A:

Of course there will be.

Speaker A:

And that's what Paul's saying.

Speaker A:

He said, look, this is really important.

Speaker A:

I want you to insist on this.

Speaker A:

I want you to make this a declaration nobody can miss.

Speaker A:

Devote yourself to good works, to the things that are going to please God, to function in such a way as is pleasing and honorable before the Lord.

Speaker A:

Like, okay, yeah, that's good.

Speaker A:

I mean, we should be teaching that all the time anyway anyhow.

Speaker A:

No, that's not what saved you.

Speaker A:

Jesus saves you.

Speaker A:

But if you're hanging out with Jesus, that's going to be part of the result.

Speaker A:

See what he's saying there?

Speaker A:

Like, ooh, cool.

Speaker A:

Yeah, that's pretty cool.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

I know.

Speaker A:

I didn't give anybody a breath to do anything anywhere.

Speaker A:

You should be lucky.

Speaker A:

This next section is going to be a lot different.

Speaker A:

All right, we'll take our break and then we'll come back.

Speaker A:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the true station here in Texas.

Speaker A:

Short break, don't go anywhere.

Speaker A:

This is from our good friend Pastor Ray.

Speaker A:

He wrote this wonderful devotional called When Grace is Tangible, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.

Speaker A:

That's John, chapter one, verse 14.

Speaker A:

There is more to grace than I ever imagined.

Speaker A:

Now, I'm going to stop you right there.

Speaker A:

So I was praying, this is in the last month, and I even wrote it down in my little journal, how I believe the Lord had communicated to me personally that I do not understand the depth of God's grace.

Speaker A:

So then this devotion comes.

Speaker A:

I'm like, oh, I just know the Lord's trying to teach me more.

Speaker A:

All right, let me back it up to what Ray says.

Speaker A:

There is more to grace than I ever imagined.

Speaker A:

We sing of amazing grace with the hope and longing that inspires people of all faiths and walks of life.

Speaker A:

Theologically, grace is defined as unmerited favor, a good, sound concept.

Speaker A:

But there is something more tangible about grace, something we can picture in our minds.

Speaker A:

God once told Moses, I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Speaker A:

Grace, as I discovered in the Hebrew language, is more than a favor granted in spite of our failings.

Speaker A:

When God says he will be gracious to whomever he chooses, he uses the word which adds a new layer of our understanding.

Speaker A:

Because hanan means to show favor, mercy, to bend or to stoop in kindness.

Speaker A:

God is not only granting favor and mercy, but the word picture is of him bending down to us in kindness, like a father getting down on his knees to embrace his children.

Speaker A:

There's even more to this picture.

Speaker A:

The root of the word chanan means to pitch a tent, to encamp, to bide, to dwell, to rest.

Speaker A:

There is more than God granting favor.

Speaker A:

He wants to dwell with us, to camp out with us.

Speaker A:

The God who is so very beyond us, not of this world, desires for his glory, to abide with us and in us.

Speaker A:

God will be gracious to whomever he chooses, and he will come and live with them and dwell with them and camp out with them, whomever he chooses.

Speaker A:

And when it makes no sense to anybody else, it doesn't matter.

Speaker A:

Even if it doesn't meet our standard of approval.

Speaker A:

The Almighty Lord desires to dwell with us, not just rule over us, certainly not to start a religion, but to love us and live with us in a tangible, real way, to show us the way, the truth and the life.

Speaker A:

The ultimate experience of God bending down.

Speaker A:

Listen to this.

Speaker A:

The ultimate experience of God bending down, stoop, stooping down to the ground to dwell amongst us is the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the David Spoon experience.
