In January 2017, Dr. Melissa Garcia Caballero joined the prestigious laboratory of Prof. Peter Carmeliet (Leuven, Belgium) to investigate the therapeutic role of ketone bodies supplementation in lymphedema. The exciting findings from this study raised interest among clinicians and triggered the initiation of a collaborative translational clinical Phase II trial (KetoLymph) to test the therapeutic potential of ketogenic diet in cancer patients who develop lymphedema. Dr. García Caballero is co-author of more than 35 scientific publications and is a professor at University of Málaga in Spain.
