Episode 10! Can you believe it, Scorekeepers?! We kind of can't, so we're celebrating this momentous occasion by... going on vacation! But fear not, even though this is an abbreviated episode, we've still got that sweet, sweet content you've been craving. First up, we're joined for a chat by our first real-life full-time professional opera singer, lyric tenor Andrew Stenson. Andrew has sung in opera houses all over the U.S. and Europe and gives us his perspective on navigating the opera industry as an Asian-American performer. Also, we get into how opera institutions can improve both the qualitative and financial impacts of their productions when they intentionally create more diverse and inclusive spaces for their artists on and off stage. Then in a pre-recorded PB&J, we send some love to the Black athletes competing in this year's Olympic Games. However, we recorded this before the world learned of Sha'Carri Richardson's disqualification (and all the other very unfortunate events to befall Black athletes here and abroad), so I have a feeling we'll be having another, very different chat when we return. We love you, Sha'Carri! <3
