Shownotes

In this episode of The Kingdom Corner, Matt Geib moves on to Ephesians 4 with a lesson entitled, “Unity: The Antidote for Chaos”, unpacking the desperate need for unification in the modern church.

[00:02:20] Matt unpacks the definition of “unity” referencing definitions and synonyms such as, “being one”, “arranged as a whole of parts”, “singleness or continuity of purpose”. He references the Greek word “hanatos” that translates as “unanimity, agreement, or accord”.

[00:04:36] “Division, disunity, split, segregation, discord, confusion, etc.” – Matt contrasts unity with its antonyms and calls our attention to their relevance in the current cultural climate.

[00:09:25] Matt takes a moment to note the important of exegesis (“exiting” out of scripture) in interpreting the Word of God.

[00:11:55] “The message that Jesus died wasn’t just for the Jewish church, but for the gentiles as well.”

[00:12:30] Matt’s circles around this concept of unity, reminding us that believers – the church – are called to be the body of Christ, requiring a fundamental kind of unity for a body to fit and function together.

[00:14:20] “As we are being built together as a living breathing body, sometimes we knock the mortar of one another.”

[00:15:46] Matt references some parallel supporting scriptures, including Eph. 1:17-18, Rom. 8:28-30, Col. 1:10, and Eph. 2:8-10, highlighting the calling and vocation of believers of one purpose – unified.

[00:15:02] Point #6: From Ephesians 3:19b – “Pray for the power to receive God’s fullness”. Matt references 1 John 3:2, that when Jesus appears, we will be like Him for we will see Him as He truly is.

[00:20:04] “Today, you must choose to be chosen.”

[00:22:55] Every believer is given a different gift, but they all must join together and complement one another rather than oppose or ignore one another.

[00:25:28] Matt points out that the key to unity is the model of Christ on the cross – that in this kind of humility alone can unity be found among believers.
