Hello and welcome to Wisdom-Trek! This is Guthrie Chamberlain, and I am your Guide to Wisdom. This is Day 14 of our Trek, and today we are looking at how you transform your thinking through sharing, which has the capability to transform your life.
Today we are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. As I am creating these journal/podcast notes, we are on our way south from Marietta to our home south of Charlotte in Indian Trail. I am blessed to have Paula willing and able to drive on our many excursions, which allows me to work in what would otherwise be idle time.
As we finished up the latest two weeks in Marietta, I was able to get our large lawn mowed and some other outside activities completed. The flowers planted last month are really starting to accent the house nicely. The amount of continual work that needs done to keep the Big House in good shape is always enjoyable but can be somewhat overwhelming. Fortunately, I don’t have to trek these tasks alone. Paula helps out, as does one of my brothers, Jack, who lives next door on the same property. Even Paula’s 82 years young mom, who lives and travels back and forth with us, helps by weed whipping and blowing grass and leaves. So, it truly is a family affair.
As mentioned in yesterday’s podcast/journal, we were able to attend the opening night performance of Tecumseh! Outdoor Drama. If you are ever in the Chillicothe, Ohio area during the summer, it is well worth the time. It was an excellent performance.
Thank you for sharing our life trek with us as we are continually learning to enjoy the journey each day. Please share your stories or questions with us on Wisdom-Trek.com/Contact Us. We will work them into future podcasts so that everyone on our Trek can get to know each other.
Yesterday we encouraged you to be more deliberate on choosing the right mindset each day and being proactive on creating the day and life that you enjoy.
As we head out on our Trek today, we continue our previous thought about sharing with each other. This simple act of sharing wisdom and knowledge can transform the lives of others as well as our own lives.
One of my Virtual Mentors, Jim Rohn was considered one of the foremost business philosophers of our time. He discussed the importance of sharing, which is certainly what we want to foster within the Wisdom-Trek community.
Jim Rohn said it this way:
The key to make our life trek really unique and worthwhile is to share. As we travel through life each day, it is important that we grasp the concept of sharing by teaching others, and then participate in sharing by learning from others.
That is why I have encourage you each day to share your stories, experience, and wisdom with us, as it will be a benefit to both you and us.
As we share stories and experiences with each other, it allows all of us to learn, grow, and change.
This is what we can learn in sharing ideas, stories, experiences and wisdom:
If you share an idea with 10 different people, they get to hear it once and you get to hear it 10 times. Share wisdom and insight as you have opportunity with your family, friends, and with others that you meet on life’s trek.
When one person shares with another, two things could happen. If you share with someone else, they could be transformed—your paths may have crossed at just the right time. This may be their life changing moment. They may have most of their trail figured out, but need that extra bit of information that only you can share.
As we traverse through the trails of life, we gain wisdom through our experiences that are unique to us. That extra nugget of wisdom that you have obtained may be very crucial in the lives of others.
If you share the right information at the right time, it will provide the information for that person to continue on their journey. The trail will become clearer for them, and there will be opportunity they never saw before. The person who hears could be transformed.
In order for us to learn the information that we need to be able to share with others takes time, discipline, perseverance, experiences, and study.
But here’s what else is exciting. By learning in order to share, you will also be transformed. We are all looking for transformation for our Trek of life—a better life tomorrow, this month, this year, and every year of our lives.
The transforming magic comes with the realization that when we learn and then teach others, it multiplies what we know through others. Not only that, but it allows that wisdom and experience to grow within us. So the multiplier effect is even greater.
Visualize today as we are on our trail that we have just come across a caterpillar that is making its way up the side of a tree. As we see this, let’s think about the radical transformation of a caterpillar. It is transformed from a despised insect that crawls along the ground into a beautiful butterfly that everyone loves to watch and is free to fly wherever they desire.
In the same way, I am encouraging you to go through such a metamorphosis. I’m encouraging you to go through a seasons in life where you say, “New skills, new wisdom, new habits of thought are waiting for me.” If you take the time to learn, apply, and then translate and share that information for other people you will see the transformation in your own life. Even if you are hesitant to share or teach at first, by doing so, you will not only be helping to transform the lives of others, but you will also see the evidence of transformation in yourself.
This transformation, or metamorphous, as with all lasting changes begins in our mind. That is why it is so important to make sure what we allow into our minds to only be positive and growth-oriented.
We cannot allow the negativity of many from the media or individuals to filter in and train our minds.
This concept of transformation draws to my mind a passage from the Bible that I will share with you. In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Rome he wrote in chapter 12:2, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Also in Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus in chapter 4:22-23, he exhorts them to throw away their former way of life…“Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy.”
Will you choose to remain a caterpillar, a despised insect that crawls everywhere they need to go or to be free like beautiful butterfly and fly from one beautiful flower to another? Just as the caterpillar must go through a painful and agonizing transformation, we too need to pursue wisdom, insight, and understanding relentlessly. We need to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow.
Once we have grown in wisdom, we are to share with others what we have learned, that is, as long as we have already applied it to our lives. Not to share and teach others is to rob the world of the gifts we have been given.
That will finish our podcast/journal for today. Tomorrow as we reach a clearing on our trail which opens in to a field of gain, we will consider the concept of planting and harvesting and how it applies to creating a living legacy.
Please check into our “camp” tomorrow for another day on our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.
