Speaker:

Danny: Hey there, Danny here from One

Speaker:

Danny: Minute Podcast Tips, and welcome to a very special episode, episode 150.

Speaker:

Danny: If you've been a regular listener, thank you for joining me so far up until this milestone.

Speaker:

Danny: Today I'm going to take a backseat, and instead I've invited some of my favourite

Speaker:

Danny: podcasters on to share their own One Minute Podcast Tips with you. I hope you enjoy.

Speaker:

Arielle: Hello, Danny and the One Minute Podcast Tips community. Happy 150th episode.

Speaker:

Arielle: I am here to share a tip with you that has helped me in my podcast growth journey

Speaker:

Arielle: over the years and will hopefully help you.

Speaker:

Arielle: I think we know at this point that there is no one-size-fits-all advice when

Speaker:

Arielle: it comes to podcast growth, but I still find that people are looking for it,

Speaker:

Arielle: and I understand that. It is really tempting to want to find that one thing

Speaker:

Arielle: that's going to just boost your show into the sky.

Speaker:

Arielle: And look, it might be possible that you strike lightning one day,

Speaker:

Arielle: but while we're waiting for that to happen, or while we're actively taking steps

Speaker:

Arielle: for that to happen, we do need to be trying a lot of things,

Speaker:

Arielle: iterating constantly, and also tracking what might be working even the tiniest bit.

Speaker:

Arielle: So my tip based on all of that preamble is to try out experiments in three month chunks.

Speaker:

Arielle: Test a new variable when it comes to podcast growth. Think about one thing that

Speaker:

Arielle: you might be able to change in your show or in your podcast marketing efforts

Speaker:

Arielle: in each of those three-month periods.

Speaker:

Arielle: Maybe it's testing a new podcast trailer, and while you're testing that new

Speaker:

Arielle: podcast trailer, sending it out to a bunch of complimentary shows and asking

Speaker:

Arielle: them to play that trailer on their feed.

Speaker:

Arielle: Maybe another iteration that you can make is tweaking your episode titles to

Speaker:

Arielle: be a little bit more relevant to search terminology that's going around with regards to your topic.

Speaker:

Arielle: Maybe it's pitching your show, any news that you have to niche newsletters in

Speaker:

Arielle: your podcast topic and seeing what sticks.

Speaker:

Arielle: Then at the end of that three month period, make sure to log what worked and

Speaker:

Arielle: to maybe scrap what didn't work or tweak it and see if that tiny tweak makes a difference.

Speaker:

Arielle: That's my tip. Thank you for having me. One minute podcast tips.

Speaker:

Arielle: Thank you, Danny. And again, congratulations.

Speaker:

Gordon: Hey there, I'm Gordon Firemark, the podcast lawyer, and I want to give you my

Speaker:

Gordon: big congratulations on 150 episodes. That is a big milestone and well worth celebrating.

Speaker:

Gordon: Well, here's one tip drawn from my experience helping creators in media for almost 35 years now.

Speaker:

Gordon: Even if you're in it for the art or just for fun, don't just think of what you're doing as a hobby.

Speaker:

Gordon: Take the time to step back and look at things through a business and a legal

Speaker:

Gordon: lens, because that's likely how the outside world will see you.

Speaker:

Gordon: So make sure that you have good clarity in all of your relationships with your

Speaker:

Gordon: co-hosts, co-producers, guests, service providers, and sponsors.

Speaker:

Gordon: And yes, as a lawyer, I have to recommend that you get it all in writing.

Speaker:

Gordon: This is where a little planning and prevention can really go a long way to making

Speaker:

Gordon: sure your show is around for the long haul, helping your audience and sparing

Speaker:

Gordon: you unnecessary headaches and drama.

Speaker:

Gordon: So again, congratulations on 150 episodes. You're out there serving your audience,

Speaker:

Gordon: and I love it. Keep up the great work.

Speaker:

Elsie: Something I learned the hard way in podcasting is that tech issues never actually go away.

Speaker:

Elsie: It doesn't matter how many years you've been doing this or how fancy your gear

Speaker:

Elsie: is, you're still going to have bad internet.

Speaker:

Elsie: You're still going to lose files. Your microphone is going to break right in

Speaker:

Elsie: the middle of a sentence.

Speaker:

Elsie: I've gone an entire hour before realizing I never even hit record, y'all.

Speaker:

Elsie: It just keeps happening. So the fix is to expect things to go wrong. Always have a backup.

Speaker:

Elsie: Use a second microphone. Record locally while you're online.

Speaker:

Elsie: And make your guests record their side too.

Speaker:

Elsie: Run a tech check every single time.

Speaker:

Elsie: Test the cords, y'all. test the cords and the connections from one thing to the other.

Speaker:

Elsie: You have to be ready for the chaos. How you respond to those mistakes is what keeps you in the game.

Speaker:

Elsie: It's better to be prepared for the problem rather than to hope it doesn't happen.

Speaker:

Elsie: That is just the reality of the podcaster life.

Speaker:

Freddy: Hey, it's Freddy Cruz, founder of Speke Podcasting and host of Your Mic.

Speaker:

Freddy: And I'm in the car right now.

Speaker:

Freddy: And I had this idea when Dan invited me to give my tip. So here it is.

Speaker:

Freddy: Please use AI, but don't.

Speaker:

Freddy: Do not, for the love of all things sacred in the podcast universe,

Speaker:

Freddy: 100% rely on it to edit your podcasts.

Speaker:

Freddy: Go back and listen through and make sure that your breaths are not chopped off

Speaker:

Freddy: and make sure that your conversation sounds like a natural conversation between

Speaker:

Freddy: two human beings because AI is meant to augment not replace us

Speaker:

Freddy: Period, as the kids would say. Happy potting.

Speaker:

Reena: One of the biggest things I have learned as a podcaster is you need to think

Speaker:

Reena: about background noise and notifications going off while you record.

Speaker:

Reena: So 30 minutes before I record, I put away the kids, think about animals in the

Speaker:

Reena: background, air conditioners that might go off mid-sentence.

Speaker:

Reena: The more silence, the better, because your audience will notice the background noise.

Speaker:

Reena: This has happened to me so many times. So it's probably better to let your guests

Speaker:

Reena: know as well that they need to turn off their calendar notifications,

Speaker:

Reena: their social media windows that might be open, silence their phone, all of the above.

Speaker:

Reena: That's my one-minute tip. Congrats on episode 150.

Speaker:

Tony: Hi, my name is Tony Doe and I'm the host of Into the Podverse: Innovation,

Speaker:

Tony: Challenges and Opportunities in the World of Podcasting.

Speaker:

Tony: What's a podcasting tip you learned the hard way?

Speaker:

Tony: Clarity beats cleverness. For a long time, I think this was a carryover from

Speaker:

Tony: my radio days, I was always trying to sound insightful instead of being understood.

Speaker:

Tony: But listeners are not interested in that. They wanted a connection.

Speaker:

Tony: They wanted clarity. They wanted to understand quickly whatever it was I had to say.

Speaker:

Tony: When I worked on that, they stopped pausing and rewinding and they stopped dropping off.

Speaker:

Amanda: Hey, everybody, Amanda here from Multitude. And one podcasting tip that I learned

Speaker:

Amanda: the hard way is that you should let people pay you from the beginning.

Speaker:

Amanda: If you have a podcast, you should have a Patreon.

Speaker:

Amanda: Whether or not you think people are ready to pay you money or want to pay you

Speaker:

Amanda: money or that you deserve for people to pay you money, listen, let them pay you.

Speaker:

Amanda: Don't stand in your own way. Start that Patreon today. Don't overthink the benefits.

Speaker:

Amanda: Even one tier saying thank you so much for your contribution.

Speaker:

Amanda: I'm not going to do anything differently, but you're supporting the show is well worth doing.

Speaker:

Danny: Thanks for listening or watching this very special episode of One Minute Podcast

Speaker:

Danny: Tips. And thank you to my special guests for sharing their tips with you today.

Speaker:

Danny: I've really enjoyed making this podcast and hearing how the tips have helped

Speaker:

Danny: you in your own podcasting journey. And I hope you'll join me for the next 150 episodes.

Speaker:

Danny: Until the next time, happy podcasting.
