And this get pregnant now, quickie, we're going to focus on a fertility
2
:saboteur that many of us are doing day
in and day out, and that is sitting
3
:all day and how this can impact egg and
sperm quality and overall fertility.
4
:Welcome to the finally Get
Pregnant Naturally Podcast.
5
:The podcast helping women identify
the real reasons you haven't
6
:conceived or stayed pregnant, so
you and your partner can finally
7
:grow the family of your dreams.
8
:I'm your host, Dr.
9
:Katie Wood.
10
:Let's dive in, shall we?
11
:Katie: By the end of this episode,
you'll know why long periods of sitting
12
:negatively affect hormones, ovulation,
and sperm production, how blood
13
:flow and mitochondrial function are
directly tied to egg and sperm health
14
:quick and simple hacks to boost movement
without adding hours of workouts if that
15
:simply can't fit into your schedule.
16
:So today we're gonna be talking
about a very, in almost invisible
17
:fertility saboteur that nearly.
18
:Almost everyone is struggling with, and
that is sitting for long periods of time.
19
:So whether you're sitting at a desk at
work, sitting in your car on the couch,
20
:where all of the above, our modern lives
are designed to keep us in a chair.
21
:But if you're trying to get pregnant,
the lack of movement could be
22
:silently slowing down the process.
23
:And I do just wanna say like I am
totally guilty of this as well.
24
:I work from home.
25
:I'm on my computer a lot.
26
:Taking client calls, recording
these podcasts, all of these things.
27
:So it's very important to be mindful
to begin to incorporate movement into
28
:your day if you have a job or just
habits that are essentially having
29
:you sitting in one place for a while.
30
:So why is sitting a fertility saboteur?
31
:When we sit for long periods of
time, our blood flow naturally
32
:decreases, which means fewer oxygen
and nutrients are getting delivered to
33
:the ovaries, uterus, and the testes.
34
:Insulin resistance can increase leading
to hormone imbalance and inflammation.
35
:Mitochondria, your egg and sperm
powerhouses, they get sluggish.
36
:And then of course, cortisol.
37
:Your stress hormones can tend to creep up.
38
:And I know that this is true, especially
in terms of the insulin resistance because
39
:when I was using a glucose monitor.
40
:I had ice cream one night after
dinner, and I could see my blood sugar
41
:starting to creep up a little bit.
42
:I got up, I think I did like some jumping
jacks or maybe some squats or something
43
:like that, and then almost instantly
my blood sugar started going down.
44
:So movement is key to our
health and really all of this.
45
:Can affect egg quality, sperm
count, and motility ovulation,
46
:consistency implantation, and
early embryo development, and
47
:in fact, sperm production
literally needs good circulation
48
:and lower testicular heat.
49
:And prolonged sitting
interferes with both.
50
:And for egg quality, they rely heavily on
mitochondrial function and your cellular
51
:energy production and movement equals
better mitochondrial support, stronger,
52
:healthier, more robust egg quality.
53
:The good news is you don't
need the gym to fix this.
54
:This is not about crushing a
hardcore 60 minute hit workout.
55
:What your reproductive system really
thrives on is frequent, consistent
56
:movement throughout the day.
57
:So what does this look like?
58
:Taking short walk breaks between meetings,
standing or walking on phone calls.
59
:Stretching or hip openers every
hour, parking farther away, taking
60
:the stairs instead of the elevator.
61
:Squats or glute bridges while
brushing your teeth or a five
62
:to 10 minute dance party.
63
:And yes, this is going to get your
body moving, your endorphins flowing.
64
:It's gonna make you happier.
65
:Even just two minutes every 30 to 60
minutes drastically improves your insulin
66
:sensitivity, blood flow to reproductive
organs, nervous system regulation,
67
:hormone signaling, libido, cervical
mucus, all of the downstream things,
68
:and your fertility loves circulation.
69
:Our uterus needs optimal
blood flow and movement.
70
:Equals better circulation.
71
:It is that simple.
72
:So one action step I
want you to try today.
73
:Pick one and I want you
to begin incorporating it.
74
:So maybe every bathroom break, you
take 10 squats every hour and you
75
:can set a reminder on your phone,
on your smartwatch, whatever it
76
:is, two minutes of stretching.
77
:After every meeting, stand for
five minutes after every meal.
78
:Take a 10 minute walk afterwards.
79
:Remember little shifts, big impact.
80
:And then if you're having a hard time
with this mentally oh, I can't do that.
81
:I don't have time for that.
82
:I want you to shift your mindset.
83
:Movement isn't punishment.
84
:We're not doing this to burn calories,
to build muscle, to look leaner.
85
:We're doing this to send more
life force energy to our body,
86
:to our, to support our fertility.
87
:And this includes oxygen,
nutrients, energy.
88
:All to our reproductive system, you
are quite literally going to make such
89
:a drastic difference helping your egg
quality and sperm quality so they can
90
:be the healthiest that they can be.
91
:So I just want to do a quick
recap what we talked about today.
92
:Sitting all day decreases blood flow.
93
:It raises insulin resistance and it
lowers reproductive hormone signaling.
94
:Our mitochondria, which is essential
for healthy eggs and sperm need
95
:movement to function properly and
small, frequent, intentional bursts
96
:of movement throughout the day are
more powerful than just a single.
97
:So I just want you to know if you've been
feeling stuck, let today be a reminder
98
:that movement is medicine for fertility.
99
:It's one of the fastest, simplest,
and most accessible and free
100
:changes you can make starting today.
101
:Okay?
102
:So take a breath.
103
:Remember to move.
104
:Let's get those eggs and sperm,
some movement that they need
105
:and love, and I just want you
to know that you've got this.
106
:I'm cheering you on and I just wanna
thank you so much for listening.
107
:I hope that you got something out of this
today and I hope you have a wonderful
108
:day and I'll see you on our next episode
released every Tuesday and Thursday.

haven't been able to get or stay pregnant?
