So in that vein, today, I thought I'd bring you something that a lot of people are curious about, and this is something I really want to dispel a myth here that when you reach a certain level, somehow you don't have fear anymore or you don't have problems anymore.

00;01;20;04 - 00;01;36;15

Lauren Brollier Newton

A lot of times people look at me or people who are super successful or whatever the deal is, and they think they don't have any fears, they're not having any struggles. They probably never struggled. And let me just tell you, it is a made up story. First of all, you have no evidence for it. I always like to say, I don't think I made this up.

00;01;36;17 - 00;01;55;03

Lauren Brollier Newton

Someone made this up, but I took it on and I wish I could give the person credit. I would if I could. But they gave me a tool. Whoever this person was. Thank you. That was about making up stories about other people's success, about your own success. And this person would say, Could you take this evidence to Judge Judy, the TV judge?

00;01;55;05 - 00;02;15;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

Could you take this evidence to Judge Judy and have her actually accept it as evidence? So if you're walking around the world going, oh, everybody's more successful than me, can you bring it up to Judge Judy? And she actually would accept that as evidence. No, you have no idea what's going on in someone else's internal world. So I still have struggles to this day.

00;02;15;10 - 00;02;31;23

Lauren Brollier Newton

Of course, I'm human. If you're breathing, you're going to have paradigms and struggles and all sorts of things coming up. And over the course of this podcast, I promise to share them. I promise to share them. And with that said, since I know a lot of listeners on this podcast, you are working toward your first hundred thousand dollars or you're working toward your first client.

00;02;31;23 - 00;02;50;02

Lauren Brollier Newton

So I wanted to tell you about my three biggest struggles I had as a coach and how I overcame them, because I'm guessing that there's going to be some of you out there who are having these same struggles right now, and I want to help you and support you in knowing how to actually overcome them. So I have a quote and I forgot who said it.

00;02;50;02 - 00;03;10;15

Lauren Brollier Newton

I always prepare a quote and it's like and I should know. I'm sure I'm going to see it. Oh, it's my favorites. My guy, Ralph Waldo Emerson. You know, Emerson is my guy. He said it this way. A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave for 5 minutes longer. A hero is no braver than an ordinary man.

00;03;10;17 - 00;03;38;29

Lauren Brollier Newton

He's just brave for 5 minutes longer. And the reason I'm saying this at the beginning of the episode is you're going to see that some of the ways that I overcame the things that I overcame came from a willingness to just take 5 minutes, just invest 5 minutes in overcoming these challenges. I was having. Because what what tends to throw us off track or to make us not successful or to get people to give up is that we feel the challenge and then we shrink back and we don't actually move through it.

00;03;39;02 - 00;04;08;09

Lauren Brollier Newton

s a coach, it was in March of:

00;04;08;09 - 00;04;26;01

Lauren Brollier Newton

I was like the reading specialist position, but I also had a side gig and that side gig was selling essential oils, nutritional supplements, even though, you know, I had made some progress, my business was pretty stagnant for a couple of years. It was like I could never get to the next level. I didn't know what I was doing.

00;04;26;01 - 00;04;45;24

Lauren Brollier Newton

I was just doing my best I could being kind of a mary Kay lady, but I was a it was essential oils and I was stuck just like I wasn't my teaching job. So I didn't realize at the time, but it's like, Hello, common denominator is me. I was doing teaching and the side gig and one thing I learned from the side gig is I was never really all in.

00;04;45;24 - 00;05;07;25

Lauren Brollier Newton

I was just kind of like, Oh, maybe I'll do this, maybe I won't. And there were days of being all in and then there were months of not being in at all. So it was just something I had an awareness of about myself. So just notice that for yourself. Notice if you're someone who up until now procrastinates or someone who is a perfectionist or someone who, you know, whatever it is, that's your vice, you know, set your mindset vise, so to speak.

00;05;07;27 - 00;05;32;18

Lauren Brollier Newton

Mine was kind of dabbling. It was like not really being all in on that side business. And it wasn't because I didn't have the time and it wasn't because I couldn't learn from people. It was just like I was just for whatever reason, not fully in. And so when I became a coach, I had this example and I knew if I don't go all in on being a coach, I just knew myself well enough to know I was going to half assed it and I wasn't going to be successful.

00;05;32;21 - 00;05;51;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

o I got certified in March of:

00;05;51;12 - 00;06;10;15

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I was living in my parents basement at the time, so even though I had a lot of debt that I was paying off, I didn't have rent. So I'm like, okay, I'll probably be okay if I quit my job. I'm going to get six months of paychecks. I'm gonna finish out the school year. So it looks like I'm going to get about six more months of paychecks and put in my resignation for next school year.

00;06;10;17 - 00;06;28;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I did that so February:

00;06;28;10 - 00;06;52;18

Lauren Brollier Newton

th of:

00;06;52;20 - 00;07;07;16

Lauren Brollier Newton

What have you done? You've got two more paychecks coming. Because even though teachers work nine months, they the school district divides it for ten months. The school district divides the paychecks over 12 months. So you've got your July and your August paycheck and that's it morning. And then you've got no money and you're living in your parents basement.

00;07;07;16 - 00;07;27;06

Lauren Brollier Newton

And who do you think you are? And you have no idea. I mean, all this self-talk. And so every morning I would wake up July 1st, July 2nd, terrified that I had made a wrong choice, that I was an idiot, that I was terrible with money. I mean, this is what fear was saying to me. And I know you know what I mean, because if you're at all aware of what your thoughts are doing, if you've ever been afraid, that's what your thoughts are doing.

00;07;27;08 - 00;07;53;05

Lauren Brollier Newton

So one day I'm just I wake up and I'm trying to, you know, get some work done for my coaching business. And I'm just thinking to myself, you know what? I'm going to cut back the principal of my school and see if I can just have if there's some sort of job for me where I can just work five or 10 hours a week and and then at least I'll have a paycheck coming in and I and I go like, down this road with myself and I'm literally about to pick up the phone to call her.

00;07;53;08 - 00;08;21;03

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I become aware of my own thoughts. Lauren, you're betting on failing. This is what you did in your other business. This is why you were never all in. It's like, Oh, this isn't going to work. So I have to do something else. You're betting on failing? I actually sat on my hands, literally sat my butt on top of my hands so that I didn't pick up the phone and call her because I knew deep down why am I sitting here calling her, asking for 5 hours a week?

00;08;21;03 - 00;08;37;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

Why don't I just go make money, my coaching business? But that fear, that paralysis of not having a paycheck and not playing it safe, it was taking over. So I knew that I was going to have to do something here because now I'm waking up every morning with this paralysis, this fear. It's getting in the way of me doing things for my coaching business.

00;08;37;12 - 00;08;53;14

Lauren Brollier Newton

I'm going to have to do something to counteract this. And I did two things mindset wise, that I think were really, really helpful for me and I going to share it with you. So if you're having any of that terror, whether you've quit your job or not, just is this going to work out for me and that feeling of paralysis.

00;08;53;16 - 00;09;10;21

Lauren Brollier Newton

So the first thing I did is in the morning when I woke up, I trained myself to say a very specific affirmation to get my thinking on a different wavelength. Then you're going to fail and you're an idiot for doing this. And the affirmation that I came up with which is, you know, it's like I look back on it now.

00;09;10;22 - 00;09;29;24

Lauren Brollier Newton

Are there are there a million different, better affirmations I could have made? Probably, but but with that said, this one worked so like, let's not let's not shame it. Here is I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area at the time, so I would say to myself, you are the most successful coach. The San Francisco Bay Area has ever seen.

00;09;29;26 - 00;09;45;09

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I would wake up in the morning and that paralysis would want to come and I would sit as many times as I needed to, sometimes 100 times. No, I am the most successful coach the Bay Area has ever seen. And I just kept repeating that and repeating that and repeating that. And I just trained myself to say it every morning, every morning, every morning.

00;09;45;12 - 00;09;59;14

Lauren Brollier Newton

And then I would think to myself, this is this is part two. You don't even have to do this part. But when you're when you're saying that to yourself 50 or 100 times to get out of bed and not feel about paralysis, then I would say if you were the most successful coach the Bay Area's ever seen, how would you be getting out of bed?

00;09;59;14 - 00;10;17;11

Lauren Brollier Newton

How would you be making your coffee? How would you be feeling inside? And I would just put that on. I would just put that on. You know, it's so funny as I'm thinking about this, it's bringing me back to, you know, I'm living in my parents basement at the time. So in the morning I would walk up the stairs, and if my mom didn't have work that day, she would be making coffee.

00;10;17;18 - 00;10;50;06

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I had this pink mug and it had gold cursive writing on it. And I don't even remember what it said. It might have said blast or grateful or something like that. Beautiful. Or, you know, some some word, some happy word. And I remember some of those mornings walking upstairs for the coffee that my mom had made, just imagining like I'm a successful coach drinking a cup of coffee and how blessed I am and how grateful I am for all my clients, just imagining that I was that successful coach and putting that on, even though I just walked upstairs from a basement.

00;10;50;06 - 00;11;11;20

Lauren Brollier Newton

My mom's providing the coffee, right? Like there's something to knowing that you don't have to wait until you become successful, so to speak, to put on the feeling of it that I'm going to feel like a highly successful coach. I'm going to cause myself to think sports are highly successful. I would think and drink my coffee the way a highly successful coach would be drinking their coffee with the thoughts that they'd be thinking.

00;11;11;22 - 00;11;28;29

Lauren Brollier Newton

And that's how you put it on some people call it acting as if or I've even heard some people call it fake it till you make it, but it's really not faking it because you're causing yourself to think the thoughts of a successful coach. If I'm thinking the thoughts of a successful coach, there's nothing fake about it. I'm thinking those thoughts.

00;11;29;02 - 00;11;50;13

Lauren Brollier Newton

But I start to feel better, you know? I start to feel better. Now. I'm going to a networking meeting and lying and saying, Hi, I'm the most successful coach the Bay Area's ever seen. But when I walk into that meeting, I'm feeling confident because all morning long I've been putting on this vibration. So that's tip number one in terms of, you know, waking up going, Have I made the wrong choice?

00;11;50;13 - 00;12;10;27

Lauren Brollier Newton

Am I going to be successful? The second thing that I did is I realized if I was going to be successful as a coach, I was going to have to take some bold action, meaning I was going to have to do some things that cause me to be a little bit afraid, like make some calls and show up at networking meetings and schedule a workshop and invite people and all the things I was going to do to be successful.

00;12;10;29 - 00;12;28;28

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I sometimes I would get scared. I mean, there were times when I was going to call a place to see if I could speak at their organization, their meeting, their gathering, and I would literally feel sick to my stomach cause I was so afraid of being rejected. And I created something very similar to I'm the most successful coach Superior's ever seen.

00;12;29;00 - 00;12;48;22

Lauren Brollier Newton

But I called it the Fear speech because I realized that the fear was so great that I was going to have to do something to calibrate my energy. So here's how the fear speech goes. You stand up, you literally do a Superman pose, hands on your hips, feet on the ground, good posture, shoulders back, and you say this fear.

00;12;48;25 - 00;13;12;19

Lauren Brollier Newton

Thank you for showing up today. Your presence is proof I'm on my growing edge. All those things you're warning me about. If they come, I'll overcome before now. See you tomorrow, Fear. Thank you for showing up today. Why am I thinking fear? Because I wouldn't feel afraid if I wasn't going toward my dreams. And that's why I say to fear your presence.

00;13;12;19 - 00;13;26;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

Your being here is proof that I'm on my growing edge. I'm changing, I'm evolving, I'm growing. I've got to where I want to be. Thank you for showing up today. And then I say all those things you're warning me about. Oh, you're an idiot. You could lose money. You're going to have to go back to teaching. And you know what?

00;13;26;10 - 00;13;46;19

Lauren Brollier Newton

If I do all overcome it when it comes and let me just tell you, Coach, that you can really hang your vibrational hat on that statement. Because here's what I know about you. I know this for sure about you. You've overcome everything that's come true in your life. You overcome it because you're still breathing. So you have an A-plus track record for overcoming hard things.

00;13;46;21 - 00;14;03;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

So that's why I say if you're if any of those things you're warning me about, if I get rejected, whatever, if that comes, I'll overcome. And then I would say bye for now. See you tomorrow. Why do I say bye for now? See you tomorrow. It's not just a cute statement. Eleanor Roosevelt said, Do one thing every day that scares you.

00;14;03;13 - 00;14;22;26

Lauren Brollier Newton

So I'm saying by this year, for now, long enough that I can make that call. But see you tomorrow. Because I want for you to come back tomorrow. Because it doesn't mean I'm growing. So that is number one, if you're waking up terrified, thinking you've made the wrong choice, whatever the issue is, there's some really great tips and tools in there that you can use.

00;14;22;28 - 00;14;41;26

Lauren Brollier Newton

The second thing that got to me, my my first year as a coach, one of the biggest struggles was the fear of spending money on my business. So I'm not talking about my certification I had already, you know, that was already put on a credit card, whatever. Like, I'm not I'm not even counting that I'm talking about, you know, I go to a BMI meeting.

00;14;41;28 - 00;15;00;04

Lauren Brollier Newton

I'm a big fan of BMI, by the way. I should I should totally do a podcast episode just about that. And I'm going to write that down because maybe I will, but I would go to be an I networking meetings and to join a BMI chapter. I think the fee for the year was $799. Now I'll tell you how to think beyond that, but in that moment, I'm living in the basement.

00;15;00;07 - 00;15;22;14

Lauren Brollier Newton

I don't have a ton of cash flow. Yes, I'm enrolling some clients, but $799 in like, oh, you know, for a moment I'm like, can I really invest in this? And maybe I shouldn't be in this group. And, you know, because when money's tight, money's tight at the level of fact you're thinking, oh, how is this going to pay off when you're having that fear of investing in your business?

00;15;22;17 - 00;15;45;29

Lauren Brollier Newton

It's very, very helpful to both have the spiritual talk with yourself, the fear Speech Most successful Coach Bear is ever seen putting on the energy of how a successful coach would walk and talk and drink their coffee and all that. Yes, and truly, to be an abandoned coach, you want to have the mindset and the spiritual principles, but you also want to learn to think like a business owner.

00;15;46;02 - 00;16;05;19

Lauren Brollier Newton

And so we can call it a cost benefit analysis. This. So I'm going to think about joining this BMI group. It's $799 for the year. And then I think it was something like 40 bucks a month because that was like a fee for just all of us collectively sharing the room rental and the breakfast and all this stuff.

00;16;05;22 - 00;16;28;05

Lauren Brollier Newton

So doing a cost benefit analysis on it, Here's what I mean by cost benefit analysis. Okay? It's going to cost me $799 for the year. Okay. And let me calculate if it was truly 40 bucks a month. I don't know if it was that much, but that's another 480 bucks. So for 12 months of networking, it would cost me $1,279.

00;16;28;08 - 00;16;57;26

Lauren Brollier Newton

Okay. Now, at the time that I started coaching for my group class, I was charging $997. I was I was a cheap date for everything that people got. And for my 1 to 1 coaching, I was charging, I think, about $2,000 1 to 1 when I very first started. So just started my coaching business. So a year of BMI would cost me $1,279.

00;16;57;29 - 00;17;23;28

Lauren Brollier Newton

minus four,:

00;17;23;28 - 00;17;51;11

Lauren Brollier Newton

I'm getting 12 months of networking every week. So that's probably take Christmas week off, take Thanksgiving week off. That's 50 opportunities to get in front of people and talk about my business. And yes, they'll be the members I'm talking to here in this networking meeting and other people will come in and join. Do I believe in 50 opportunities to talk about my business that I could enroll one client and now it's almost stupid.

00;17;51;17 - 00;18;18;00

Lauren Brollier Newton

I don't like that word, but it's almost stupid not to sign up because you're like of course I'm going to meet someone in 50 different networking opportunities that I can absolutely connect with and enroll as a client. Now, of course, would you want to have way more of a return on your investment than breaking even plus $700? Yes, but you start to really look at the risk and you're like, oh, what fear is telling me about investing in my business is absolutely false.

00;18;18;02 - 00;18;39;27

Lauren Brollier Newton

So that's what you want to start doing. You want to start saying, I mean, even when I first enrolled in my coach certification, my first coach certification was about $15,000. And so I knew I was going to need to enroll between 5 to 8 clients to break even on that investment. Well, if I'm in this for the long haul, if this is the career I'm choosing for the rest of my life, of course I'm going to freaking enroll 5 to 8 clients.

00;18;40;03 - 00;18;59;22

Lauren Brollier Newton

I'm not going to bet on anything less than that. And I was able to pay off my investment in my first, you know, probably $15,000, probably my first three months as a coach. I was able to do that. So you want to start doing it now? The reason I know some of you are not doing the cost benefit analysis is because you haven't burned the ships yet.

00;18;59;24 - 00;19;18;14

Lauren Brollier Newton

You're doing what I was doing in my previous business were like, Oh, I'm kind of half in, half out. If you're all in the cost benefit analysis will always tell you the truth. If you do a cost benefit analysis and you say, Oh, I need to enroll one client for this to pay off and you're not doing it, it's because you don't you haven't committed to the business.

00;19;18;16 - 00;19;34;18

Lauren Brollier Newton

So that's what I'm going to suggest, is that you really take a look, do the spiritual practice, as we talked about in point one, but also do the cost benefit analysis. Some things won't pay off. Some things you'll look at and you'll go, you know, I actually don't have a good feeling about this. I don't believe it's going to pay off.

00;19;34;18 - 00;19;55;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

And it's not because you haven't made a solid decision. You just do the analysis and you go, I'm not 100% sure that that's the right move for my business. That's a different story. All right. So those are two of the things I struggled with and how I overcame them. Let's talk about number three. This one is more personal in nature, but I really struggled with it my first year as a coach.

00;19;55;08 - 00;20;14;15

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I know some of you have told me that you're struggling with it if for different reasons. So I really wanted to put this one up there. Relationships falling apart or falling away. A lot of times your family won't understand why you decided to become a coach, why you're quitting your job, why you're doing this woo woo stuff, or, you know, whatever your coaching is.

00;20;14;15 - 00;20;35;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

How are you going to make money doing that? What about retirement? There's going to be people in your life who question that career change decision and sometimes friendships too. When I became a coach, I got so alive with spiritual principles that I was applying them in my own life and I was seeing so much growth. I was enrolling clients.

00;20;35;10 - 00;21;00;26

Lauren Brollier Newton

I met my the love of my life. I was seeing so much growth in a very short period of time, and that caused some friendships to become strained because we were now on a different vibration. There's not one that's better than the other. I'm not saying I was on a better vibration, they were on a lower vibration, but I was just growing really fast and that was no longer a vibrational match for some of the friendships that I was in.

00;21;00;29 - 00;21;20;12

Lauren Brollier Newton

Thankfully, I had a lot of people that supported me, my family. I don't think they got what I was doing, but they're like, you know, good for her. Well, we will support her. But there were there were a couple friendships that just started to get really strange through my growth. Like I said, we just we weren't matching up as much as we had been before.

00;21;20;15 - 00;21;48;26

Lauren Brollier Newton

And like I mentioned, for some of you, your families won't understand that. They won't know what you're doing. They'll have a lot of questions about it. And so if you're struggling with the relationship aspect of growing your coaching business, a couple different things to think about. I personally would recommend having a vision for the type of relationships that you want to have and making sure that you don't just have a vision for your business, but you have a vision for every part of your life, including your relationships.

00;21;48;29 - 00;22;13;18

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I believe in having this vision because it will become your North Star. Having this vision will become something that you can measure your attitude against, the way you're having conversations against. So, for example, if I'm feeling a strain in a friendship that I had when I first began coaching, if I have a vision of what my friendships are like, I can ask myself a very simple question, which is what would the woman in my vision do here?

00;22;13;20 - 00;22;38;21

Lauren Brollier Newton

And it's very likely that the woman in your vision is not being a doormat or the man or whoever in your vision. The woman in my vision was not being a doormat. She wasn't suffering in silence. I'm happy in this friendship. She also wasn't blaming the other person. There's a very specific vibration to that vision, which I can then make some decisions off of about my communication and things of that nature.

00;22;38;23 - 00;22;59;24

Lauren Brollier Newton

So that's number one. But the other thing that's most important to understand is it's unfair to expect the person who's not having the transformation, who's not starting the business, who doesn't know what you know, to understand what you're doing. It's actually unfair of us to ask them to understand or ask them to grow faster when they're not in the center of what we're in.

00;22;59;24 - 00;23;18;09

Lauren Brollier Newton

This number one thing is I would want with some of these friendships, it's like I'd want them to come with me. I'd be like, we were close before, like, why can't they grow? Like, I'm growing, you know? And it's like, that's unfair. It's unfair to think that they're going to understand or grow as fast when they're not in the center of it.

00;23;18;09 - 00;23;38;22

Lauren Brollier Newton

They're not building a business, they're not taking the classes you're taking. It's unfair to ask them to understand that if you take that off the table, asking them to be where you're at and understand, then you can really decide if this friendship is salvageable or worth it, or the relationship or your husband or whoever it is, Don't expect them to understand.

00;23;38;24 - 00;23;58;03

Lauren Brollier Newton

Don't expect them to get what you're doing. Don't expect them to get interested in you just got interested in that. The only thing that you can really expect if it's a good relationship and here's how you know, if it's a good relationship, you don't ask them to understand, of course, that I can understand. They haven't been in the classes.

00;23;58;03 - 00;24;13;01

Lauren Brollier Newton

They didn't take the certification. How are they supposed to know what they don't know? They're not maybe even going to agree because they don't know enough to make an informed decision about if they think this is a good thing for you or not. So we're not going to ask them to understand that. We're not going to ask them for agreement.

00;24;13;03 - 00;24;34;11

Lauren Brollier Newton

We're just simply going to ask them for support because they love us. And so that's the only thing that you're doing, is you're just asking for support. You don't have to understand this. I get that You don't understand it. And even though you think this is woo woo, woo where you think this is whatever, totally. Okay. But from this day on, I'm just going to ask that you support me and you wish me the best and you cheer for me.

00;24;34;13 - 00;24;56;09

Lauren Brollier Newton

That's all I'm expecting. Now. It's very, very important that if you're going to ask for that, you're willing to do that. So when your husband comes home and says, I'm going to take up fishing because I just feel really alive when I'm out on the water and I bought all these new fishing rods, I know I'm making a very generic story, but just stay with me here and there's a part of you that doesn't understand it and isn't in agreement with it.

00;24;56;09 - 00;25;22;12

Lauren Brollier Newton

Are you willing to give your support? Because if you're not, don't be hypocritical about it. Right. Let's we're not going to ask someone else to do for us what we're not willing to do for them. So that's something very important about relationships. They don't have to be into what you're into. My best friend, Chantilly, my best friend. We never had any sort of falling apart at all when I became a coach and I changed because we support one another.

00;25;22;14 - 00;25;42;07

Lauren Brollier Newton

She doesn't love personal development. She's not listening to personal development. She's she's probably not ever going to get into this, but she's always rooting for me. And that's what you want to establish for each other. I'm not expecting her to get it Understand degree change, Do personal development seminars with me. I'm not asking for any of that. Just like she's not asking me to be into what she's into.

00;25;42;14 - 00;26;00;14

Lauren Brollier Newton

But we always support each other and are happy for each other. And that would be my suggestion of how you navigate some of these relationships. If you can salvage being supportive of one another, the rest will fall into place, especially if you offer a vision. So I hope it's helpful for you to hear. I had three struggles my first year waking up terrified.

00;26;00;14 - 00;26;15;27

Lauren Brollier Newton

I made a stupid choice being afraid of investing anything in my business because I was afraid the money was going to run out and navigating some friendships that did fall apart. So I'm I have been there with you. If you practice some of the things I shared with you, try them on, see if they fit, see how they go.
