Here's Solid Ground with Simon O'Connor for 10 March 2026. In this episode of Solid Ground, Simon responds to viewers questions about the imminent release of the Royal Commission’s report into Covid, foreshadowing some aspects he expects to see including a host of questions for the then Labour government in charge.
He recaps the March for Life in Auckland and how well the day went, but also mentions recent data that shows that in 2025 there were nearly 18,000 abortions in New Zealand (around 50 per day) —about a 36% increase since the 2020 law change; and a 60% rise in late-term abortions.
Simon wraps up the show by arguing against the suggestion of a recent parliamentary inquiry that New Zealand should appoint an internet commissioner. He warns of government overreach and points to how such roles overseas have had a chilling impact on free speech. He then shares some suggestions around how the government might approach social media access of under 16s, noting that the key is to hold Big Tech accountable and empowering parents.
