What a week it has been! It’s amazing how quickly our world can change. Today in the studio, I am joined by Rebecca, Jenna and Hudson. I asked them to come on and talk about what emotions they are feeling this week. I thought briefly about doing a totally unrelated topic thinking that maybe people want something to distract their minds, but I decided not to because it just didn’t feel right-kind of like doing something fun when you know your friends are hurting.
They talked about being a little afraid because they don’t know what is going to happen, what is going to get cancelled, what friends may get sick; and mad because they can’t hang out with their friends.
It’s ok to have feelings like this. It’s a part of being human. But just because I am feeling upset- doesn’t mean I have a right to go out, because I feel fine, I’m just going to go out and make myself feel better and hang out with my friends. The people that have already gone through this are telling us to listen to the doctors’ advice and do what they are telling us to do.
What’s a few weeks of your life?
It is tough, especially for the seniors who don’t know if they are going to get to do any of the things they had planned. The uncertainty is so hard, even for the parents. We just don’t know what’s going to happen. Life is like that to a degree, but we feel like we have more control in normal situations.
What should you do when you have feelings like this? Talk to your friends and family. Be willing to work through all your feelings. Find someone to help you talk through it. If your family or friends can’t help you, talk to your pastor or a teacher.
Remember just because something is on the internet, doesn’t mean it’s true.
What can you do to help the situation-find things that you can control-your schedule, your diet, find productive things to do. You will be tempted to stay up late and watch movies, but that is not in your best interest.
This is going to be one of those moments that people talk about. Where were you when the Challenger exploded? Where were you when 9/11 happened? It’s going to be where were you when the Corona virus happened?

This is something that none of us would have chosen. Things may not turn out the way that we want, but we are going to be ok. The human spirit is amazing, and you can handle more than you think you can. You guys might feel trapped and want to be back to your familiar routines, but you can do this and you can use this time to find the good and find the opportunities.
So for our family this week was Spring Break, but we couldn’t really do anything because we were trapped in our house. But we made the most of it. Had some pool days in the cold pool, got some projects done, built some things, taken lots of walks, watched some TV. But next week we are going to kick it up a notch.
Some of you may have heard me talk about the Brendon Burchard podcast that I was listening to the other day. He wasn’t even talking about what is currently going on in our world. He recorded it before all of this happened, but he was talking about transitions. He said, “How we handle transitions, is how we level up.” And that statement really hit home for me. Lots of hard things are going on right now, and they are going to continue at least in the near future. And we can sit around and worry and complain about all the things we are missing or can’t do, but what will that really accomplish? It will just frustrate us and make us depressed, or we can find the opportunity in the crisis. We can use this time to learn new skills, make some memories and change our lives for the better.
