If you've ever wondered whether your anger is just who you are, this episode is for you. These stories show what can happen when people stop letting anger control their relationships and start taking real steps toward change.
In this episode, anger expert Alastair Duhs shares the experiences of 10 men and women who struggled with anger, frustration, losing their temper and the growing distance those patterns created at home. Some were watching trust disappear from their marriage. Others felt disconnected from their children. Many had reached the point where they worried nothing would ever change.
You'll hear the common themes that emerged from their journeys: learning to pause before reacting, taking responsibility for their anger, rebuilding trust after years of conflict and creating calmer, healthier relationships with the people they love most.
You'll also hear why so many of them said the same thing afterward: "I wish I'd done this sooner."
This isn't an episode about quick fixes. It's about hope. It's about seeing that anger management is a learnable skill, that emotional control can be developed, and that relationships damaged by anger can begin to heal when someone commits to a different path. If you've been wondering whether lasting change is possible for you, these stories provide a powerful answer.
Anger Secrets is the podcast for men and women who want practical anger management strategies and stronger relationships. Hosted by Alastair Duhs, creator of The Complete Anger Management System, each episode explores anger control, emotional regulation, communication, and the skills needed to build calmer, happier, and more connected lives.

Picture a man who loves his family.
Speaker A:He'd do anything for them.
Speaker A:But something keeps happening.
Speaker A:A sharp word, a spike of temper.
Speaker A:A silence that fills the whole house.
Speaker A:And he can see it in their faces.
Speaker A:The tiredness, the walking on eggshells.
Speaker A:And the worst part, he doesn't know if it can ever be different.
Speaker A:If you've ever felt that way, or if you've ever wondered whether the anger is just who you are.
Speaker A:This episode is for you.
Speaker A:Today I'm going to describe 10 real people who asked that same question and found out the answer was no.
Speaker A:The anger wasn't who they were.
Speaker A:And it isn't who you are either.
Speaker A:Hello and welcome to the Anger Secrets podcast.
Speaker A:I'm Alastair Dewes, and for for over 30 years, I've helped more than 15,000 men and women control their anger, master their emotions, and build calmer, happier and more loving relationships.
Speaker A:Today, I'm not going to give you any anger management tips or techniques.
Speaker A:Instead, I want to share with you what 10 real people have said.
Speaker A:Men and women who were exactly where you might be right now, who decided to do something about their anger and came out the other side.
Speaker A:If you'd like my help to do the same, head over to angersecrets.com youm can book a free 30 minute call with me or grab my free training on how to break the anger cycle.
Speaker A:But first, let's talk about something I've learned over 30 years of working with people on anger.
Speaker A:The number one thing that stops someone from seeking help isn't stubbornness.
Speaker A:It isn't laziness.
Speaker A:It's doubt.
Speaker A:They've tried things before.
Speaker A:They've made promises to themselves and to their partners.
Speaker A:They've had good weeks and bad weeks.
Speaker A:And somewhere along the way, a quiet voice crept in and said, maybe this is just how I am.
Speaker A:Maybe I'm too far gone.
Speaker A:Maybe it's too late.
Speaker A:That voice is wrong, and today I want to prove it to you.
Speaker A:Because real change, lasting change, the kind where your wife stops bracing herself when she hears your key in the door.
Speaker A:The kind where your kids relax around you again, that kind of change is possible.
Speaker A:I've seen it happen more times than I can count.
Speaker A:And the people it happens to are ordinary people, not people with unusual willpower or perfect circumstances.
Speaker A:Just people who decided enough was enough and who did the work.
Speaker A:I want to share with you the comments from 10 of them.
Speaker A:Now, the first thing you'll notice as you listen is that almost everyone says a version of the same thing.
Speaker A:I wish I'd done this sooner.
Speaker A:That's not a small thing.
Speaker A:These are people who spent years managing, coping, apologising, and once they found a structured path through it, they looked back at all that time and felt the weight of it.
Speaker A:I don't say that to make you feel bad.
Speaker A:I say it because if you're sitting on the fence right now, that's worth knowing.
Speaker A:Here's what some of them shared.
Speaker A:One person, Jason said, my course.
Speaker A:The complete anger management system had permanently changed his life.
Speaker A:Not temporarily, not.
Speaker A:Things are a bit better permanently.
Speaker A:He said he genuinely couldn't remember the last time he'd lost his temper.
Speaker A:And that wasn't something he could have imagined saying a year earlier.
Speaker A:One woman, Lisa, said that within just a couple of weeks, the changes in herself were so significant that she'd started recommending it to her friends.
Speaker A:She'd begun sharing the tools with people around her.
Speaker A:Because when something works, you want the people you care about to have it too.
Speaker A:Now, Lisa's comments bring up one of the things that comes up again and again.
Speaker A:Speed.
Speaker A:People are often surprised by how quickly their anger begins to shift.
Speaker A:Not because anger disappears overnight, it doesn't.
Speaker A:But because having a clear framework changes everything.
Speaker A:Almost immediately, you stop feeling like you're at the mercy of your emotions and you start feeling like you have a say in what happens next.
Speaker A:One person, Antony, described it this.
Speaker A:The course made him think before he reacted.
Speaker A:Just that.
Speaker A:That pause, that space between the trigger and the response, changed the whole trajectory of what happened after.
Speaker A:For Anthony, that pause was everything.
Speaker A:And it's a learnable skill.
Speaker A:It's not something you either have or you don't.
Speaker A:You can build it.
Speaker A:These 10 people built it.
Speaker A:Another woman, Stephanie, said that what stands out is, is how much her change rippled outward.
Speaker A:It wasn't just that she felt better internally.
Speaker A:Her relationships changed, her family changed, the atmosphere in her home changed.
Speaker A:One person, Darryl, talked about becoming a happier person overall.
Speaker A:Not just less angry, but genuinely happier because he stopped sweating the small things his wife noticed.
Speaker A:He noticed her.
Speaker A:Noticing that feedback loop, where your family responds differently to you and that response reinforces the change is one of the most powerful things that happens when someone does this work properly.
Speaker A:Another person, Cyrus, mentioned something I found particularly moving.
Speaker A:He said he'd avoided his anger for years, made excuses for it, told himself it wasn't that bad, that other people were worse, that the circumstances justified it.
Speaker A:And then he looked up one day and realised what that avoidance had cost him.
Speaker A:He said he wished he'd found this sooner.
Speaker A:That's the Thing about anger, it doesn't stay still.
Speaker A:It doesn't wait patiently while you figure it out.
Speaker A:It keeps happening.
Speaker A:And every time it happens, there's a cost to your relationship, to your kids, to the trust in your home.
Speaker A:The sooner you address it, the less it costs one person.
Speaker A:Megan talked about what set this apart from other things she'd tried.
Speaker A:She'd done counselling before.
Speaker A:She talked about her feelings, and there's value in that.
Speaker A:But she said what was different here was the practical aspect.
Speaker A:She got actual tools, things she could use in real situations, in the moments that counted.
Speaker A:Not just insight, action.
Speaker A:That's what I've always believed about anger management.
Speaker A:Understanding why you get angry is useful, but understanding alone doesn't stop you snapping at your wife or a Wednesday evening.
Speaker A:You need tools, you need a structure, and you need to practice using them until they become second nature.
Speaker A:Another person, Troy, said something that stayed with me.
Speaker A:He said, we don't get here because everything's going okay.
Speaker A:There's something that's happened or things that have built up over time that means it's all gone sideways and you need to sort it out.
Speaker A:There's real honesty in that.
Speaker A:Most people who come to me aren't in a crisis.
Speaker A:They're in a slow accumulation, months or years of arguments that go too far, of apologies that don't quite land of a partner who's a little more distant than they used to be.
Speaker A:And they know something needs to change, but they don't know what or how or where to start.
Speaker A:That's exactly where structured help makes the difference.
Speaker A:Now, I started this podcast because I looked around and couldn't find what I wanted to create a practical, honest podcast about anger management.
Speaker A:Something that actually helped people.
Speaker A:And I hope this podcast does.
Speaker A:But I want to be honest with you about something.
Speaker A:This podcast can give you a lot.
Speaker A:Ideas, frameworks, perspective.
Speaker A:It can help you understand what's happening and why, but it can't do the deep work for you.
Speaker A:The people you heard from today didn't change their lives by listening to a podcast.
Speaker A:They did it by committing to a structured process and following it through.
Speaker A:So if you're ready to do that, I'd like to help.
Speaker A:Head over to angersecrets.com and book a free 30 minute call with me.
Speaker A:We'll talk about what's going on for you, what you've already tried, and what a real path forward looks like.
Speaker A:You can also access my free [email protected] training.
Speaker A:Thank you for being here, for taking your anger seriously.
Speaker A:And for caring enough about the people in your life to want to do better by them.
Speaker A:And remember, you can't control other people, but you can control yourself.
Speaker A:I'll see you in the next episode.
Speaker A:Take care.
