Jayna then went on to pursue her master's degree in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University while working as the sales team leader for Lululemon.
,:Brittany then moved to Long Island, New Jersey to study sociology at Stony Brook University. She was known for being a remarkable soccer player all through her junior year and had no criminal history.
Brittany was described as very sweet and funny, however, many began to notice her kleptomania tendencies as she was reported for stealing money and clothes from her teammates, classmates and roommates. Because of this, she would lose her scholarship and be expelled.
In: A year later in:Jayna Murray and Brittany Norwood's past was cross at Lululemon in Bethesda, Maryland.
Janice Vibrant personality and strong leadership made her a cornerstone of the team, while Britney's charm and ambition hinted at someone eager to make her mark.
,:Brittany insisted it was just an accident, but Jayna said she would still have to notify the manager per company policy. After leaving the store at about 9.45pm, Jayna called the manager to inform her of Brittany's theft.
The manager told Jayna she would take care of it in the morning. At 9:51pm, Brittany realized she had left her wallet at the store and called another sales associate to get Jayna's phone number.
eet her back at the store. At: ,:The manager then noticed the door was unlocked but just assumed another employee had arrived before her and forgot to lock it back. However, when she entered the store she began to notice the store in disarray.
The lights were on and many things were out of place as if an altercation had happened. The manager then heard someone moaning in the back, so she quickly left the store. Fearing what could be inside, the manager immediately called 911.
While outside, she seen a man waiting in line for the Apple store to open and asked if he could accompany her inside the store. He agreed. The man Then headed to the back of the store by himself at the request of the manager.
He then began to see blood on the floors and walls and then a body laying face down.
As he started walking back out of the store, he noticed another person tied up, bleeding but alive and still breathing and appeared to be sexually assaulted due to the tears in her clothing. He then yelled for the manager to call the police again. Shortly thereafter, several officers arrived on scene.
They found Jayna face down in a pool of blood with no pulse and Britney zip tied, unresponsive. Not long after, an ambulance would arrive transporting Brittany to the hospital.
A uniformed officer that was working part time security at the hospital met them there and went into the trauma bay with them. The officer observed a number of cuts on Brittany's chest, legs and forehead.
The most curious laceration was on Brittany's right hand and ran parallel to her thumb and was about 1 to 2 inches in length.
Since it appeared Brittany had been sexually assaulted, a sexual assault nurse would perform a rape kit but would turn up no evidence that a sexual assault had occurred. Brittany told the detectives that two masked men had burst into the store as they were about to leave.
Britney said Jayna was struck by one man and that she was attacked by another and would go on to describe the men in great detail. She said the attackers cussed at her, called her a dirty slut and yelled racial slurs while sexually assaulting her with a clothes hanger.
Jayna's autopsy would reveal 331 distinct injuries, including 105 defensive wounds and a fatal blow to the back of the neck, severing her spinal cord. Multiple weapons were used to make these wounds, including a rope, a wrench, a merchandising peg, a hammer, a box cutter and an X acto knife.
The autopsy also revealed Jayna was alive for most of the torture. Detectives would find Jayna's car moved to another location nearby.
After processing the car, detectives found a mix of blood from both Brittany and Jayna.
When confronted, Brittany explained that she was ordered to move the car by the masked men and threatened with her life if she wasn't back within 10 minutes. Witnesses would later testify that they had seen her park the car near a farmer's market and sit inside the car for an hour and a half.
Brittany told detectives she had passed by a police officer but did not speak to him. As detectives began piecing together the timeline of events, Britney's story just wasn't adding up to what the physical evidence was saying.
First, there was the bloody footprints. There were only two sets One belonging to Brittany and the other to a size 14 shoe that was later recovered at the scene.
The second set, the detectives believe was from Britney trying to stage the scene. Next was the sexual assault kits. Neither Jayna or Brittany had evidence of being sexually assaulted.
And lastly, Brittany's restraints appeared to be self bound and her wounds superficial. The blood from her forehead would show a downward trajectory even though Brittany claimed to have been laying on the floor all night.
So from the evidence, the detectives began putting together a timeline of what really happened. It appears Brittany lured Jayna back to the store with a ruse.
When back inside the store, Brittany confronted Jayna about her call to the manager for the stolen merchandise, it is believed the two began arguing and Brittany struck Jayna repeatedly in the head, face and body with a blunt object until she was forced to the ground. Brittany then continued to cause harm with any object she could find until the final blow to the back of the neck, severing her spinal cord.
It was then Brittany took Jayna's car to a nearby parking lot and returned 90 minutes later with a plan. She then staged the crime scene, throwing items on the floor to appear as though her masked men's story was true.
She then opened the safe and took its contents out. Next, she staged the bloody footprints throughout the store.
