Shownotes

This weekend is shaping up to be a real doozy on the Around the House show, and trust me, you don’t want to miss it! We’re diving into the world of DIY with a remastered interview featuring Eric G and the ever-enthusiastic Ben Guilford from the Firebrick Company. They’re rolling up their sleeves to chat about crafting your very own wood-fired oven. Seriously, how cool is that? I mean, who doesn’t want to strut around their backyard like a culinary wizard, tossing pizzas into an oven that you built with your own two hands? But hold on, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Ben’s got some reality checks for us—like, how long will this little project actually take? Spoiler alert: it’s not a weekend DIY, so if you’re thinking of becoming a pizza-making prodigy in time for that birthday bash, you might want to rethink that timeline. No one wants to rush art, right?

As if that wasn’t enough, in the second hour, Eric G is joined by Ken Aaron from Virtual Home Inventory. This guy’s all about keeping track of your valuables, and honestly, if you’ve ever lost something in the abyss of your home, you’ll want to hear this. Ken dives into why it’s crucial to not just track your possessions but also the very structure of your home. Imagine needing to file a claim and realizing you have no idea what’s in your attic or how much your countertops cost. Yikes! Ken’s got the tech to make that all easier, including some fancy 3D point cloud stuff that sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. You’ll be ready for anything life throws at you—like an unexpected tornado or just a messy roommate.

So, gear up for a jam-packed two hours of insight, laughs, and maybe a little sarcasm as we explore the absurdity of home projects and the importance of keeping your stuff safe. Hit that subscribe button and get ready to join us this Saturday for what promises to be a delightfully chaotic ride!

Speaker A:

This is a killer DIY project.

Speaker B:

How long does it take to build?

Speaker B:

And I'll say, oh, you know, it depends on the oven.

Speaker B:

It might be the P85 is about 20 hours of work.

Speaker B:

And they're like, oh, I've got this, I've got this event coming up in like three weeks time or a month's time and you know, it's a 21st birthday or something and I just tell them don't do it, don't do it.

Speaker B:

Like I'm not saying don't build the oven, but if you try to build it to a timeline, firstly it takes all the fun out of it because now you have to hustle.

Speaker B:

You don't get to just enjoy the process but, but then you have this stress of I've got to get it done by then and, but really you've got to finish it at least two weeks.

Speaker A:

In the second hour of the national radio show and podcast, Eric G chats with Ken Aaron from Virtual Home Inventory and they can show you how to keep track of all your stuff.

Speaker C:

You bring up a point which is really critical and that is with a claim, you're not just replacing possessions, it's the house, the structure.

Speaker C:

And it's really vital to capture the fixtures and finishes that are in the house because there's so much money involved in that.

Speaker C:

That's why with what I do, because it captures everything, ceilings, floors, you name shows the, the quality of the build of the house.

Speaker C:

And in addition to that, the advantage of the 3D is so it builds what it calls a point cloud, which is how it defines this 3D space.

Speaker C:

You can take, we can take and export that point cloud and give it to an architect so that if you have a loss, we can give your this to the architect.

Speaker C:

You have 97% accurate plans to start with in the architect.
