Transcripts

Melissa Deally:

Imagine getting up every day full of energy is if you were in your 20s. Again, what would that be like?

Melissa Deally:

What would that be worth to you? What is your health worth to you? Think about it. Your health isn't everything. But without it, everything else is nothing. And yet too many of us are taking it for granted until something goes wrong. No one wakes up hoping to be diagnosed with the disease or chronic illness. And yet, we've never been taught how to be proactive in our health through our school system, or public health. As a registered health coach and integrative health practitioner, I believe it is time this information is made available to everyone. Combining new knowledge around your health and the ability to do my functional medicine lab tests in the comfort of your own home will allow you to optimize your health for today in all your tomorrow's don't wait for your wake up call.

Melissa Deally:

Welcome back to another Podapalooza special episode of The don't wait for your wake up call podcast. I am here with Wendy McNiel. Welcome to the show, Wendy.

Wendy McNiel:

Thank you. I'm glad to be here.

Melissa Deally:

I'm excited to have this conversation with you. And I would love for you to introduce yourself to the audience.

Wendy McNiel:

All right, well, Im Wendy McNiel. I am a military veteran, and almost a military widow. I have a master of divinity degree from juris seminary at Baylor University. And my talk is about living forward, exploring your life with Li F E as the four points that I will be discussing.

Melissa Deally:

I love that the idea of living forward we all have, you know great times in our life. And then we have difficult times in our life, right? And it's obligating those difficult times and being able to bounce back more quickly. That allows us to stay on a healthy path physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, etc. So, I would love for you to share your journey. And then your tips based on your life acronym.

Wendy McNiel:

Okay, well, my journey began as when my family came over from Puerto Rico, I had to give a major life changes, I had to learn a new language, and it was a new culture. Eventually, down the road, I married my husband, we met in the military service Air Force, and he was diagnosed with cancer. And he pack during active duty, die with a military veteran. And now I'm a military widow. So I had the loss of my husband plus auto, a changes in my identity. And because of that, I had to learn how to move forward and thrive in my new identity. So I created live forward exploring your life, L I F, E. And the first L is to love yourself. During that journey, I found that I was having a lot of regret, things that I should have done things I should have seen. And that type of energy ends up getting inside of you and it's not very healthy. And the Bible scriptures, the, you know, blessed are they that mourn for they will be comforted. Now my counselor for me personally, I'm a Christian, I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord. So that faith anchored me. But it also had a taking of my faith, because there were areas in my faith that I had not, was not developed. And that became apparent during the season of the loss. So afterwards, I knew the areas that I needed to work on. And I chose to work on those areas. The eye is for inspiration. And the loss caused me to see the world in a different way. My late husband was 51 when he passed, so it really gave me a wake up call as to you don't have all the time in the world. So he can really get out there and do the things that are important to you. If any man be in Christ is a new creature, all things are passed away. But all things become new. And that newness list is explore our future. And the third point is F which is fulfilling your purpose and your destiny. We forget the things that are behind us. And we look forward to those things which are ahead when an example was the late Chuck Colson John, people from my season will remember he was a part of the Watergate scandal. And under President Nixon, when he went to prison, he accepted the Lord as a savior, when he came out after the humiliation was when his purpose and destiny began. And he was able to use his experience to serve those who are still incarcerated. So he began the prison ministries, which is still a ministry that goes on today. So this was an example of how to turn those things that were difficult, or that were negative, into something positive. So for me, I was able to use my experience, to make choices to move forward, I wanted to live a life of philanthropy, which is something that I've always wanted to do. So I began actively pursuing that, once I was back on my own again. And it has been not only a life of giving back, but it's a way to have a healthy energy going in a healthy direction instead of inward, which tends to, to have not very good in outcomes, when that energy gets pulled in, instead of pulled out. Which leads me to my last letter E, which is encouraged others to service. When we get our minds off of ourselves and toward others. Again, it gives a healthy place for that energy inside of us to go play. It also lets us open up and see the world. When Minister mentioned in the car, the rearview mirror is this small part that let you see behind it that went to the left, you look forward, that lets you look ahead and see the world that's ahead of us. When author said, somebody's got to lead and somebody's got to help. And I put myself in a health category. And it's been very fulfilling for me at that point. So what I do is, is promote the live forward to show people that they can still thrive and to really move forward and also be of service to others, which also helps you but it also helps the community as well.

Melissa Deally:

Melissa Deally:

I love that. So just to recap for everyone the L is for

Wendy McNiel:

love yourself. Love yourself. Yes,

Melissa Deally:

give yourself the AI is

Wendy McNiel:

inspiration isn't half is is fulfilling your purpose and your destiny. And E is encourage others to service. So

Melissa Deally:

all of it is so beautiful. And you're absolutely right that when you fulfill your purpose and destiny, when you encourage others and be of service, you get so much out of that yourself as well as helping others. And you those two aspects are incredibly powerful in addition to the first to love yourself. It's got to start there, because that's the point where you decide that you're worth it and you will actually take action to move forward and thriving. Your Life, and then be inspired. So I love what you've put together through your own journey. And then your ability now to help others move through their journey so much more quickly, and find happiness again, and find that place where they can truly thrive.

Wendy McNiel:

Yes, very much so. And I found of my life has become very rich, my philanthropy at this point is through the food bank, and being people that look just like me, that just happen to have a different turn in life that, you know, don't want to be there, but are there they're also looking out for their families and making those choices, let them move ahead as well. So I increased my compassion and my mercy towards others that educated me on the the needs of my city. And it's a way to put begin, put my energy forward toward those things that also help my community and help others.

Melissa Deally:

I love it. And so thank you so much for the work that you do. Because so often, you know, people that are in need of help, they don't necessarily want to be in that place. However, it also takes great courage to ask for help and to be able to seek help. And you only have to be there for a short amount of time before you too can move through it and come out the other side and then be able to give back. And having that compassion for where where other people are at in their life and supporting them, as opposed to judging them is so important. Because who are we to judge another we don't live in their shoes, we don't know their stories, and instead to show up and offer support and care and help and that's what helps them move through that much more quickly. We're all humans. And as we said at the very beginning, life has its ups and downs. So I really thank you for the service that you give for your in your business, but also your philanthropic work with the food bank. I love it. And thank you for coming on this podcast and sharing what you've learned so that you can help others. So along those lines, what does don't wait for your wake up call mean to you.

Wendy McNiel:

It means that you need to live forward there's things in your heart that you know were there. And sometimes they just take a little bit of courage to say yes, I'm just gonna do it and just go for it. And if it becomes not a thing, it will lead to the thing that is the thing. So nothing is wasted. The skill sets they will learn the people you will meet it will just help build those your destiny your purpose in life would be to continue moving forward in your purpose and your destiny. I love it.

Melissa Deally:

Thank you Thank you. So if somebody wanted to get ahold of you what is the best way for them to reach you?

Wendy McNiel:

I would like to say that you still have so much to offer even with everything that has gone on in life. And sometimes there's a season to to go inside into mourn into the the healthy steps of grieving. But then there's also that time of I want to get out there and live my life. To develop my faith you fill up those areas of my life that are important to me, and to give yourself permission and that you will find it the third way to live forward and to have a fulfilling life.
