The Pacific leads the day.

Typhoon Bevy is intensifying about 600 miles east of Guam with 120 mph winds and the National Weather Service warns of a possible catastrophic impact somewhere in the Marianas.

A typhoon watch is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan with a tropical storm watch for the northern islands.

Guam moves to condition of readiness three this afternoon and the Coast Guard sets port heavy weather condition X ray for Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Forecasters expect BAVI to approach as a very dangerous category 5 storm with closest approach around Sunday into Monday.

The threat arrives just days after Guam's June 30 major disaster declaration for Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

Dangerous heat grips the eastern half of the country into the July 4th holiday.

Extreme heat warnings cover 24 states and the District of Columbia this morning with heat index values of 105 to 115 from the mid Atlantic into New England through Saturday.

Official order issued June 30th expiring tonight.

The Storm Prediction center also carries an enhanced severe weather risk from central Nebraska into western Iowa today and overnight flash flooding hit Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The nation remains at preparedness level 4 with 49 uncontained large fires and year to date acreage running 154% of the 10 year average.

Utah's Babylon Fire grew nearly 17,000 acres in a day with extreme fire behavior and the Cottonwood fire has destroyed 150 structures on the cyberfront.

The National Situation Report lists the fire at 35,468 acres Thursday morning at 0% containment, while Colorado Public Radio reports it reached 47,953 acres later Thursday.

Officials say more structure losses are expected.

An evacuation shelter remains open at the Pueblo County Recreation Center.

GEORGIA the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management lifts the precautionary boil water advisory for sections of Fairburn and south Fulton after sampling confirms no contamination.

The advisory followed a contractor caused power outage at the Adamsville pump station earlier in the week.

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency urges fire safety through the July 4th weekend, warning that lush growth from an exceptionally wet winter and spring is curing into abundant wildfire fuel, especially in west Oahu and West Maui.

Illinois COMED warns customers in Berwyn, Cicero, Oak park and several west side Chicago neighborhoods that local grid demand reached a critical level, activating voluntary load reduction and asking customers to curtail use, especially from noon to 8pm Utility alert issued Wednesday evening about 36 hours old during ongoing extreme heat.

Minnesota up to 8 inches of overnight rain flood southeastern Minnesota, closing a portion of I90 near Dexter in Mower county since reopened and Highway 43 north of Mabel in Fillmore county with flooding reported at the Lanesboro Dam and in Preston along the Root River.

Flash flood warnings cover Fillmore and Houston counties.

The Storm Prediction center carries an enhanced risk for scattered wind damage and large hail across central Nebraska today.

New Mexico GO Evacuation status holds for Sierra de los Pinos and the Jimez Falls Campground as the Macaulay Springs Fire stands at 712 acres and 63% containment northeast of Jimenez Springs.

Highway 4 remains closed between mile markers 27 and 40 and Sandoval county evacuation centers stay open.

The Sakaton fire on the Gila national forest grows to 1,270 acres with active fire behavior and structures threatened.

NEW YORK con Edison reduces voltage 8% for about 115,000 customers in the northwest Bronx and northern Manhattan while crews repair equipment, asking those neighborhoods to limit air conditioner and appliance use.

The island is still in early recovery from Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

Northern Mariana Islands A typhoon watch covers Rota, Tinian and Saipan with a tropical storm watch for Alamegan, Pagan and Agrahan Port.

Heavy weather Condition X Ray is in effect and residents are urged to complete preparations before conditions deteriorate this weekend.

Puerto Rico A heat advisory continues for urban and coastal areas with heat index values at or above 100 degrees, locally 105 or higher, while Saharan dust keeps skies hazy and air quality degraded into the holiday weekend.

U.S. virgin Islands heat index values reach or exceed 100 degrees in urban and low lying areas through the Emancipation Day and Independence Day weekend, with increasing Saharan dust producing hazy skies.

District of Columbia the District's modified holiday services take effect today, announced Wednesday.

Trash and recycling collection is suspended until Saturday, while 10 recreation centers and three indoor pools operate as cooling centers today and Saturday and all low barrier shelters run as walk in cooling centers.

The extreme heat alert remains active through July 5th with heat index values up to 109.
