The Model Aeronautics Association of Canada was successful in 2019 in obtaining a waiver from CARs Section 9’s requirements for Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) regulatory requirements. In 2023, the exemption was lost requiring members of the hobby to obtain their RPAS Basic or Advanced licenses. Some MAAC sanctioned flying fields were closed due to the loss of the exemption. MAAC’s President Carl Layden in a fireside chat discusses his passion for the hobby and MAACs challenges.
