The Deckerville Eagles were firing on all cylinders in front of their homecoming crowd, shutting out and defeating the Kingston Cardinals 44-0 on Friday, October 11, 2024. With the win, the Eagles clinched at least a share of the inaugural Big Thumb - Blue title; with a win next week against Capac, Deckerville can win the division outright.
The Kingston Cardinals knew going in that it was going to be an uphill battle, but two turnovers in the first five minutes and a 14-0 deficit put the ballgame out of reach early. Kingston would end the night with less than 100 yards of offense on 42 plays, averaging just 2.2 yards per play from scrimmage.
Deckerville's three-year starting quarterback Hunter Garza was responsible for four total touchdowns, including the first three of the game on his own feet. Garza finished the game with 16 carries for 140 yards and three scores, while going 3-6 in passing for 46 yards and another score.
