Shownotes

In 1996, Bruce Stephen Holms, Timeless Voyager Radio interviewed one of the most controversial guests ever. If you remember, in the 1990s hundreds of thousands of foods used NutraSweet® to sweeten every diet food that was available in the U.S. The FDA approved the usage because at that time it was classified as safe because it was an amino acid. If you notice now, in 2022, there is little or no NutraSweet® in foods as an artificial sweetener. You can thank Dr. Blaylock, author and retired neuron-surgeon — and the stir he caused by interviews like this one coupled with the sales of his book, Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills! BTW, one of the other Excitotoxins that has horrible effects on humans — MSG.

Dr. Russell Blaylock, a board-certified neurosurgeon, combines many years of medical practice with study of thousands of research studies to create this monumental book. Author of Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills, one of the first books to address the hazards of food additives, he has also written several other medical books and numerous scientific articles. He currently resides in Mississippi with his family.

Excitotoxin: a substance added to foods and beverages that literally stimulates neurons to death, causing brain damage of varying degrees. Can be found in such ingredients as monosodium glutamate, aspartame (NutraSweet®), cysteine, hydrolyzed protein, and aspartic acid.

Citing over five hundred scientific studies, Excitotoxins explores the dangers of aspartame, MSG, and other substances added to our food. This is an electrifying and important book that should be available to every American consumer.

Blaylock claims the supposed toxicity of numerous substances that according to scientific studies are safe at customary exposure levels. He has been quoted several times in media outlets regarding his position that MSG is toxic to the brain. He also states that the widely used artificial sweetener aspartame is toxic and may be the cause of multiple sclerosis. He has additionally cautioned against heavy use of the artificial sweetener Splenda (sucralose). These positions are not supported by scientific consensus or regulatory bodies, as extensive studies support the safety of aspartame, sucralose, and MSG.
