Anika:

I think owning your owning a business, like you have a

Anika:

lot of days where you're like,

Anika:

is it worth it?

Anika:

Like you have a lot of hard days, but you just got to go to sleep and

Anika:

wake up the next day and start fresh.

Anika:

And you know, you're controlling your own destiny, which I think

Anika:

is like the most amazing thing that you can do in your life.

Raquel:

Your

Sydney:

I love it.

Sydney:

Yes.

Sydney:

I love it.

Sydney:

Welcome to the Know Your Worth Show, where we teach you how to think about

Sydney:

your money differently so that you can achieve your sexy money goals.

Sydney:

I'm Sydnee your money Maven and owner of Know Your Worth.

Sydney:

And I'm Kristen Sid's Dimepiece bestie team member and busy mama

Sydney:

twins here to make sure that those of us without a financial degree can

Sydney:

still level up with each episode.

Sydney:

Let's get started on reaching your next goal.

Sydney:

Hello.

Sydney:

Welcome to the Know Your Worth podcast.

Sydney:

I am one of your hosts, Sydney Conway,

Kristen:

And I'm your other host, Kristen Fedeli.

Sydney:

and we're really excited to have Raquel Mancini and Anika

Sydney:

Tenace here with us tonight.

Sydney:

Yeah, so Kristen's going to us

Anika:

be here.

Sydney:

are and we're going to get to hear their story.

Kristen:

Yeah.

Kristen:

So these two beautiful sisters are the co owners of Glam2Go, a mobile hair and

Kristen:

makeups company and Glam2Go Studio, a full service hair salon located in Wexford, PA.

Kristen:

So.

Kristen:

If you're around the area, you really need to check them out.

Raquel:

Yes, please.

Sydney:

They have done our hair and makeup for some fancy events that we've gone to

Sydney:

and the pictures turned out wonderful.

Sydney:

So, actually my sister and I were just talking today about booking you

Sydney:

guys for an event we have coming up.

Raquel:

Yeah, please.

Raquel:

We'd love to have you.

Raquel:

Let us know the date, for

Sydney:

my mom wants to do a makeup class.

Sydney:

Are you guys still doing makeup classes too?

Kristen:

Oh, can I come?

Raquel:

Once a month we do makeup classes.

Raquel:

I do them personally, too.

Raquel:

Just for families.

Raquel:

So, anytime, you let me know.

Raquel:

Yeah,

Kristen:

shoot in August?

Kristen:

Can we get glimmed up for that?

Anika:

sure.

Sydney:

That would be so fun.

Sydney:

That would be so fun.

Sydney:

Actually, that would what day is that again?

Kristen:

August 20th.

Kristen:

I'll email you guys.

Anika:

Yeah, let us know, Kristen.

Sydney:

going to send you an email.

Sydney:

So, we're just going to jump right into it.

Sydney:

Will you guys tell us a little bit about your background?

Sydney:

Kind of just what your, you know, story is before we really get into

Sydney:

some of the, you know, the, the hard hitting questions that we have.

Sydney:

Give us a little bit.

Sydney:

You know, a little bit of background about yourselves and how you kind of got to this

Anika:

we started?

Anika:

Sure.

Anika:

So, Glam2Go, our mobile company, we started first.

Anika:

I'm a hairstylist by trade and Raquel is a makeup artist.

Anika:

I just started doing my girlfriend's hair for their weddings.

Anika:

And people in the bridal party were engaged and asking if, you know, I could

Anika:

come and do their wedding, which I really I worked at a salon full time and I was

Anika:

just doing this kind of on the weekends as favors, but also getting paid for it.

Anika:

And it kind of just trickled from there.

Anika:

I started booking more weddings and more weddings.

Raquel:

And I did hair with her and I am not a hairstylist, but I grew

Raquel:

up, both grew up in a hair salon.

Raquel:

I was like, you know, the shampoo gals, girls.

Raquel:

And so I was helping Anika with hair back then.

Anika:

I needed help.

Anika:

And I was like, you can work a curling iron.

Anika:

Like they could tell you you're coming with me.

Anika:

I need help.

Anika:

Two people turned into 12 people, and I just needed the help.

Anika:

So Raquel would come along and help me, and then we kind of

Anika:

saw a need for makeup with hair.

Anika:

And Raquel went and got her esthetician license.

Anika:

After college.

Anika:

And I said, you know, you got to do makeup and you have to come on board.

Anika:

And, you know, I think.

Anika:

This could be a whole traveling team of hair and makeup artists

Anika:

that not a lot of people were doing in Pittsburgh at the time.

Anika:

So that's how, you know, our mobile hair and makeup business kind of started.

Anika:

Just filling a need of like our girlfriends and their friends from

Anika:

high school and just networking really.

Kristen:

What year was that?

Anika:

oh, that was what?

Anika:

2014, 15.

Sydney:

Wow.

Anika:

And then I didn't like, we didn't really start until

Anika:

2016 is like started the LLC.

Anika:

We'll just say that in 2016.

Sydney:

Love it.

Sydney:

Love it.

Sydney:

That's awesome.

Kristen:

That's awesome.

Raquel:

It was Anika's company.

Raquel:

And then she, we talked about it and I was working more with her and we

Raquel:

decided to go and split and be co owners.

Raquel:

And I was brought on as the owner and.

Raquel:

Took, you know, the jump of the business end that, and then just to keep growing.

Raquel:

I mean, in the beginning it was like, well, we're the best.

Raquel:

It'll just be us two, you know, until we die, going to be, and to look at it

Raquel:

now, and we have 25 people in growing,

Sydney:

That's

Raquel:

To think back then we didn't think that we did, we had one other

Raquel:

person and we were like, Oh, I don't know.

Raquel:

They're not going to want her now.

Raquel:

They don't want us.

Raquel:

They want everybody else, which is the goal.

Raquel:

And it's so.

Raquel:

Exciting to what we grew to and he has two kids now, the change in both of

Raquel:

our lives and then glam to go as well.

Raquel:

And now we have a whole full service hair salon.

Raquel:

It's, it's really been amazing.

Raquel:

And it's just been a crazy 10 years now

Anika:

together.

Anika:

The growth of it and is to look back on it is, amazing.

Sydney:

it's amazing.

Sydney:

It really is.

Sydney:

I mean, you guys, I'm, I hope you're proud of yourselves because it's incredible and

Sydney:

we haven't said this, I guess, so far yet, or really lived it, but we, at Know Your

Sydney:

Worth, we work with Glam2Go as, as the bookkeeper for Glam2Go and Glam2Go Studio.

Sydney:

So, in working with you guys for just the past couple years, it's incredible

Sydney:

to see what you guys are doing.

Sydney:

And your business is fantastic and it's such a pleasure to work with you both.

Sydney:

So it is really fun to see just in the past, what, you know, like two and a half,

Sydney:

three years, what you guys have done.

Sydney:

So, I mean, from 2014, 2015 till now, it's, it's amazing.

Sydney:

Those

Raquel:

work with us because I'll just get those emails.

Raquel:

I don't know if anyone else has them that works with them.

Raquel:

They're like, hello, do you have some questions?

Raquel:

And I'm like, I better get these back to her before she kills me.

Raquel:

Oh,

Sydney:

So you're good.

Raquel:

I really think it's you like, hello.

Sydney:

Let's go.

Anika:

But speaking on that, the growth that we've had has been, you

Anika:

know, kudos to you, Sydney, for just crunching our numbers and giving us a

Anika:

better understanding of our business So we don't feel like we're taking,

Anika:

you know, that big of a financial risk on the things that we want to do So

Anika:

it's been a total game changer having you for the last three years where?

Anika:

we just moved into a beautiful brand new studio we've been there for a

Anika:

year and like not knowing You our numbers and having a grasp of our

Anika:

financials, you know, we would have been very hesitant to take this on.

Anika:

We wouldn't have.

Anika:

We wouldn't have.

Anika:

No.

Anika:

So we were like, Sydney, can we do it?

Sydney:

Yes, you can.

Sydney:

Yes, I love it.

Sydney:

That is awesome.

Sydney:

That is awesome.

Sydney:

Well, I'm happy to be of any assistance that I can be, but you guys are doing an

Sydney:

amazing job and the studio is beautiful.

Sydney:

Beautiful.

Sydney:

Oh, it's fantastic.

Sydney:

Everyone has to go check it

Raquel:

visit.

Raquel:

Right off the Wexford exit.

Raquel:

Brand new building.

Raquel:

Okay.

Kristen:

So when you started out, do you think you had like a full

Kristen:

grasp of understanding of financials?

Kristen:

Like were you business minded in that way or were you just

Kristen:

like, I want to make some money.

Kristen:

I want to do what I love.

Kristen:

I want to help out some girlfriends.

Kristen:

Like, how was, what was your headspace

Raquel:

The start of it for sure was just like make some money and emotional.

Raquel:

And, and then honestly, and we, we talked about it a little bit, is that getting

Raquel:

the systems and the correct scheduling systems and the platforms for booking

Raquel:

and for contracts and being more business savvy has been a game changer for us.

Raquel:

It's just been made everything more seamless and easier for clients.

Raquel:

Professional.

Raquel:

Therefore it's easier for us.

Raquel:

We can book easily because they can do it easily pre, like click a button, click

Raquel:

a button, sign a contract here, done.

Raquel:

So that was key into understanding that you can't just email me and

Raquel:

I'll be like, okay, how many people do you have and let me write it down

Raquel:

and then I'll send you an email back.

Raquel:

I mean, we were, that's what we were doing.

Raquel:

We were like writing emails or attachments of.

Raquel:

And then, I mean, I found an old notebook that was in my garage and it's literally

Raquel:

like Britney, Sam, like, not, not our workers, those aren't our workers names,

Raquel:

but it's like who we did, and then it was like the money, like a hundred, a hundred,

Raquel:

and then like five hundred dollars, and I was like, what the heck was this?

Raquel:

Yeah.

Kristen:

that.

Raquel:

Oh, that's so funny because that's how we were like keeping track.

Raquel:

And you can, I would sit down at the end of the month and be like, okay.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Raquel:

So yeah,

Anika:

in the beginning we were not business savvy at all and we had to

Anika:

learn along the way, like I'm guessing a lot of business people, you know,

Anika:

you just learn and Google and research and ask questions and, you know, we

Anika:

went to a ton of networking Groups and other female business owners.

Anika:

Like, thank God for them being honest and open and telling us things because,

Anika:

you know, that's how we learned.

Anika:

And if we didn't know it, we asked somebody, looked it up, or

Anika:

we just like faked it, like we thought we knew what we were doing.

Sydney:

I mean, you guys put the work in.

Sydney:

Yeah, like you put the work in.

Raquel:

The wedding industry, not just the female business owners of like

Raquel:

Pittsburgh area, like obviously you know, you guys know that like it's such

Raquel:

a great community, but the, on the other side, the wedding industry as a whole,

Raquel:

getting in was hard, but it's so paid off that we are in and we're good with,

Raquel:

we have so many great relationships with photographers, planners,

Raquel:

videographers, florists, DJs, you name it, we try to be professional, nice.

Raquel:

accommodating to them and that has paid off.

Raquel:

I can't tell you just by answering an email correctly with a

Raquel:

planner versus not answering.

Raquel:

And I don't know, I guess it just

Anika:

seems small.

Raquel:

It seems small, but it makes such a difference.

Raquel:

And if you're listening and you're trying to start your own business,

Raquel:

like those little things matter.

Raquel:

Those answering that email promptly matters.

Raquel:

It And what people remember.

Raquel:

Or if you, you know, Remember that maybe they had a baby or just got married.

Raquel:

All of those things.

Raquel:

It's like, okay, now I'm going to remember Sydney.

Raquel:

Like, I like her,

Sydney:

absolutely.

Raquel:

you know,

Kristen:

touches.

Raquel:

personal touches really make a difference.

Raquel:

And when we see everybody on site, then it's like, we're friends and

Raquel:

then they're going to recommend us.

Raquel:

We recommend them.

Raquel:

It just works.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Raquel:

It's very nice.

Anika:

I think that we truly, as a whole, all 24 of us, all 25 of us, we really do

Anika:

care about our client and we want them to have the most incredible day and we're

Anika:

there on their one of the most I say one of them because now I have kids but back

Anika:

when I didn't have kids like the most important day of my life and you know a

Anika:

lot of families Maybe they don't talk to their mom or maybe something happened and

Anika:

their sisters are fighting or whatever and we try to like not only do your hair

Anika:

and makeup, but we're there to like You know Just emotionally support you and

Anika:

give you what you need out of that day.

Anika:

And I find that like glam to go is so good at that.

Anika:

And all of our girls are so good at that.

Anika:

Just making you feel comfortable.

Anika:

And like, we have your back.

Anika:

And I think that's important.

Anika:

And that's why people do book with us over maybe some other,

Anika:

you know, companies out there.

Anika:

That's

Sydney:

it's very true.

Sydney:

And that's why I think why I resonated with you guys so much from the

Sydney:

beginning too, is, you know, I felt really comfortable talking with you

Sydney:

both because that's what I want to do.

Sydney:

You know, like that's, I feel like that's so important when you're working in a

Sydney:

service based business is to just be able to make people feel comfortable and get

Sydney:

people excited about talking to you and referring you and hanging out with you.

Sydney:

And then when they see the value as well, and they see the quality of the work,

Sydney:

it's like, Oh, there's nowhere else to go.

Sydney:

And that's absolutely what you guys have always put out there too.

Raquel:

nice.

Raquel:

Thank you.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Anika:

I love that.

Kristen:

I have a hard hitting question.

Sydney:

I think it's time.

Kristen:

Okay.

Kristen:

Is there any like, like when the dynamic between the two of you as

Kristen:

sisters working together, you know, do you ever get like, I want to

Kristen:

take a Like, ring your neck or like,

Anika:

Yeah, we're sisters and we, I mean, we're sisters.

Anika:

We're best friends.

Anika:

We're business partners.

Anika:

We see each other all the time.

Anika:

We definitely have our moments, but I think what we're getting good at is

Anika:

like, we call each other out immediately, fix the problem, talk our feelings,

Anika:

and then like we kiss and make up and we're on to like the next thing.

Anika:

'cause a, we don't have time for any bullshit.

Anika:

Yeah.

Anika:

And,

Sydney:

Yep.

Anika:

We need to, we are very close.

Anika:

Raquel and I are very close, which is really nice.

Anika:

Yeah.

Anika:

But like, she went away for two days and I was like, I missed you.

Anika:

It's like, you

Kristen:

Oh,

Raquel:

every

Anika:

grit.

Anika:

She was like,

Raquel:

what?

Anika:

And she just got married.

Anika:

So she has like no time for me anymore.

Sydney:

congratulations.

Raquel:

Every day I see her.

Raquel:

We live five minutes away from each other, but yeah, we're really good.

Raquel:

It's nice to hear some of our newer girls say that they were concerned

Raquel:

about how the dynamic would be with the bosses being sisters and

Raquel:

that they don't see any issues.

Raquel:

It means we hide it a little and we keep it professional when we have to and

Raquel:

like, we might like give each other an eye and then we take care of it later.

Raquel:

But we really try to nip it in the bud.

Raquel:

Bud?

Raquel:

Butt?

Raquel:

I think it's

Kristen:

never know.

Raquel:

I'd love one.

Raquel:

I think it's supposed

Sydney:

like they both make sense.

Raquel:

butt.

Raquel:

Anyways.

Raquel:

Or we'll do it the next day, right?

Raquel:

We'll sleep on it and be angry or whatever and talk about it.

Raquel:

And then we get over it.

Raquel:

And I mean, we used to have, I mean, I'm talking like literally six years

Raquel:

ago, like battles, but it was hard.

Raquel:

We were in, we were, it was, we were in it, like trying

Raquel:

to start it, trying to do it.

Raquel:

She was having babies, you know, it was just tough, but

Raquel:

now we have such a great swing.

Raquel:

We have two different personalities.

Raquel:

We're very similar.

Raquel:

All right.

Raquel:

But in the Glam2Go world, you are, our employees would tell you that we're

Raquel:

different, we're different style bosses.

Raquel:

And I think it's a good thing.

Raquel:

We, we like meet where we lack, you know, she comes in, same thing with me.

Raquel:

It just works.

Raquel:

So that's where I'm so happy and grateful we have each other.

Raquel:

It's

Sydney:

That's awesome.

Raquel:

yeah.

Kristen:

so much fun.

Sydney:

Love it.

Sydney:

Absolutely love it.

Sydney:

That's fantastic.

Kristen:

All right.

Kristen:

So we'll dive into the financial stuff now.

Kristen:

So what do you two feel like is the biggest mistake that you ever

Kristen:

made while you were growing your business or trying to navigate,

Kristen:

your finances, what was the biggest.

Kristen:

Blunder or mistake.

Sydney:

Or learning experience, too.

Kristen:

experience.

Kristen:

That's a good way to put it.

Raquel:

Thinking that we had to do all of it was a huge mistake, not a mistake,

Raquel:

but it was, we learned from it that we can't do it all and delegating things,

Raquel:

uh, to assistants, to growing the team to other artists that are very talented.

Raquel:

Has been key in the growth of Glam2Go, but in the beginning, not understanding

Raquel:

that, that like we don't have to do everything, that there's no, you're worth.

Raquel:

that can do the bookkeeping that would literally, I would cry over

Raquel:

because I didn't understand it.

Raquel:

I've hated taxes.

Raquel:

I've hated it.

Raquel:

I mean,

Anika:

everybody does, right?

Anika:

But

Raquel:

finances, it's just like, not my thing in college.

Raquel:

All of those classes were like, not good for me.

Raquel:

I passed, but like going back and then doing, I remember I'd be

Raquel:

like, I don't know what I'm doing.

Raquel:

I don't know what this is.

Raquel:

Our accountant, You know, would call me and he'd laugh at me and it was like

Raquel:

when he's his, he called me still when he calls me, I like cry, but it's like

Raquel:

PTSD, but I'd be like, I don't know.

Raquel:

And he's like, well, what is this?

Raquel:

I'm like, I don't know.

Raquel:

And I still sometimes go back to Sydney, but having people that know, know their

Raquel:

part, it's just like someone asking to do their makeup a certain way or

Raquel:

doing their professional bridal makeup.

Raquel:

And they're not knowing as much as I know, you know, they hire me.

Raquel:

That's why they hire us.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Raquel:

It's the same thing.

Raquel:

So learning that we have, stick to what you're good at.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Raquel:

And that there are resources out there that you can use that make things easier.

Raquel:

It's just,

Anika:

yeah.

Anika:

And as you're growing your business and making more money or putting your money

Anika:

back into your business, you're able to.

Anika:

You know, take your funds and put them to things that we just don't,

Anika:

point blank, we don't want to do it.

Anika:

Right?

Anika:

Like we're not in the, we're not in the finances.

Anika:

Oh, I hate it.

Anika:

We hate it.

Anika:

So stick to what you're good at.

Anika:

And we outsource that.

Anika:

We're, we're creatives.

Anika:

So we want to do what we love and grow the business creatively.

Anika:

And that's why we.

Anika:

You know, reach out to Sydney to help us with all our

Anika:

bookkeeping to keep us on track.

Anika:

So we can be creative

Sydney:

Yeah,

Anika:

in a smart way.

Sydney:

Absolutely.

Sydney:

Yeah, I think that's one of the biggest things, especially whenever you're trying

Sydney:

to be lean when you're first starting.

Sydney:

If you're not getting a big investment from somebody, you're

Sydney:

building it from the ground up.

Sydney:

You're, you're starting it as a hobby.

Sydney:

You're starting it as somebody asked you for a favor.

Sydney:

You're starting it even with the business mindset, but you're not

Sydney:

getting a massive investment.

Sydney:

You're not.

Sydney:

You know, it's going to be your livelihood.

Sydney:

You're thinking about it from a lean perspective.

Sydney:

It's really hard to turn off that.

Sydney:

You don't want to spend too much money, but you need to spend money.

Sydney:

And then it's like, well, is this the right money to spend?

Sydney:

Is this the right place to spend?

Sydney:

Like, what's the most cost effective like bang for my buck here.

Sydney:

And it's a really tough decision.

Sydney:

So like trusting your gut is huge with that too.

Raquel:

Especially, I know it was hard for me to let go of.

Raquel:

So we have an assistant, Sam, who does all of the scheduling now.

Raquel:

And that's what I did.

Raquel:

I still do some, but I did all of it.

Raquel:

And I couldn't imagine not doing it.

Raquel:

And then I was like, well, then I'll have to pay someone to do it.

Raquel:

That's just money that I could have.

Raquel:

Why would I do that?

Raquel:

And then I was like, I couldn't do it.

Raquel:

I literally was spending six hours at night doing all of this after

Raquel:

work and putting her and doing it.

Raquel:

I don't even, now I don't have any time.

Raquel:

I don't know how I did that before.

Raquel:

And it's so worth it.

Raquel:

Like

Anika:

that's putting, being able to let go a little bit, letting go of the reins

Raquel:

a little,

Anika:

let go and training people.

Anika:

Right.

Anika:

So it's like that hurdle of training and.

Anika:

Teaching them what is just embedded in your brain and that is so secondhand

Anika:

to you is really hard, but it pays off so much in the long run.

Anika:

With the right people, I think.

Anika:

With the right people, absolutely.

Raquel:

That you just got to let go a little bit.

Raquel:

Yeah, I'm sure I already love Kristen, but I'm sure having Kristen, Sydney, is like

Sydney:

life changing.

Raquel:

tell.

Raquel:

Life changing the best.

Raquel:

She's like, I'll do it.

Sydney:

Yeah, I, I, one hundred percent, like Kristen is like my Adderall in human

Sydney:

form, like, literally, like, the thing that I'm like, God, I can't do that.

Sydney:

God, I can't do that.

Sydney:

I'm like, Hey, Kristen

Raquel:

Forward.

Kristen:

thing I've ever done for Sydney is for a while I would

Kristen:

set my alarm for 9am and then I would text her, take your meds.

Sydney:

Yeah.

Kristen:

I would be driving my kids to preschool and my alarm

Kristen:

would go off and I'd be like, we're going to message Sydney.

Kristen:

And they would yell from the backseat, take your meds.

Sydney:

Yep.

Sydney:

Take your Adderall.

Sydney:

You need to

Kristen:

take your Adderall, let's get this day going.

Sydney:

Yep.

Sydney:

I was in such a, what?

Anika:

I said that's amazing.

Sydney:

Yeah, I was in such a spot that, like, I couldn't even remember to do that.

Sydney:

I could not remember to do it.

Sydney:

I had no, like, not no organizational cause I had a lot of organizational

Sydney:

because I was managing so many things, but then the stuff that was going

Sydney:

to help me, I couldn't do, you know?

Sydney:

So outsourcing some of that to just the even reminders of just

Sydney:

like helping me with my life.

Kristen:

But I think when you're a business owner and you are juggling so

Kristen:

many things, like you put yourself last every time because you're just like,

Kristen:

I got to, I got to service my clients.

Kristen:

I have to service my employees.

Kristen:

I have to be the best of the best for everybody else.

Kristen:

And then you go to bed at night and you're like, what did I do for myself today?

Kristen:

So that's why you have me, Syd.

Sydney:

And I appreciate you more than anything.

Sydney:

I mean,

Kristen:

I appreciate you, friend.

Sydney:

And I, I know whenever we kind of talked and like looking at the form

Sydney:

that you guys have kind of like filled out for some of our questions and stuff,

Sydney:

like hiring an assistant, I just think is such an incredible tool for you as

Sydney:

a business owner is you know, one of the books that I was have read in the

Sydney:

past talks about outsourcing things.

Sydney:

And if you can outsource things for like a fourth of what your hourly rate

Sydney:

is, like 25 percent of your hourly rate, You shouldn't even hesitate.

Sydney:

So if you're calculating out your hourly rate, and it's coming out to

Sydney:

be, you know, a hundred dollars an hour, and you can outsource it for

Sydney:

25 dollars an hour, which is a really good rate, but you as a business owner,

Sydney:

probably at a, a really hefty rate, you know, your time is so valuable.

Sydney:

So if you outsource it for 25%, and it's even less than that in

Sydney:

certain cases, At a minimum 25%, it should just be like, no brainer.

Sydney:

Get it off your plate.

Sydney:

Like get it out there.

Sydney:

Don't do it.

Sydney:

It's not worth your time.

Kristen:

Was it hard for you to find people to trust?

Kristen:

Like I know we talked about before we started, your values as business owners.

Kristen:

Was it hard to find people that fit?

Raquel:

Yes and no.

Raquel:

We have a lot of our girls that work for us are, recommended from

Raquel:

somebody that we already hired.

Raquel:

So they are already like minded.

Sydney:

Mm hmm.

Raquel:

Our assistant, Sam, she was one of our hair stylists and

Raquel:

she's a little younger, just driven.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Raquel:

Great personality, great morals, just an awesome person and wants

Raquel:

more and wanted more, but she didn't want to leave Glam2Go.

Raquel:

She's like, pretty much like, I can't afford my life with just

Raquel:

doing some hair every other weekend or whatever she was doing.

Raquel:

And so we decided that she was the best pick for a position.

Raquel:

And now, I mean, I was just talking to her last night, she's had a baby

Raquel:

and so life has been changing for her.

Raquel:

And, you know, I kind of let her know that things are just on the up and up

Raquel:

and we're just going to want more from her and expect more and if she's up for

Raquel:

the challenge and she's like, plan to go for life, baby, you know, like amazing

Raquel:

to hear and she has this new voice probably like what the heck am I doing?

Raquel:

But she like still loves her job and yeah I mean we do find these

Raquel:

like great people every time we hire someone new that's amazing.

Raquel:

I'm like

Anika:

Yes, I think we hire for personality a million percent and their

Anika:

like what type of person they are.

Anika:

Morals.

Anika:

And then we can teach the skill.

Anika:

We can teach them how, you know, Raquel can teach them makeup and do classes

Anika:

and I can take, teach them hair.

Anika:

But I think what we look for in like our interview process and when

Anika:

people come to us like, and DM us all the time, like, we want to work

Anika:

for you like we truly we guard our girls and our family very tightly.

Anika:

So if you're not going to like fit in or mesh or be nice, if you're

Anika:

not a nice person, like we just, we can't cause it affects the team.

Anika:

It affects us.

Anika:

It affects our brands that we've worked, you know, Raquel and I

Anika:

have worked so hard for that.

Anika:

We just can't afford to do that.

Anika:

So we hire for personality and then the skill will come.

Anika:

We're pretty lucky.

Anika:

Like, we've been pretty lucky.

Sydney:

It's awesome.

Sydney:

That's awesome.

Sydney:

I mean, it does.

Sydney:

I mean, when you hire for personality, I agree with you.

Sydney:

You can teach, you can teach the skill.

Sydney:

You know, you can, you can pay for the course.

Sydney:

You can pay for the class.

Sydney:

You can pay for the training.

Sydney:

You can't pay for the personality.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Sydney:

Yeah.

Raquel:

Reliability is really clutch in, for Glam2Go.

Raquel:

Travel.

Raquel:

We can't, yeah, for travel and for the studio, but travel is

Raquel:

like, we cannot miss a wedding.

Sydney:

Yeah.

Kristen:

Yeah.

Raquel:

We're not.

Raquel:

So, we've had rare instances, I can probably count on one hand, where

Raquel:

someone does not come to a wedding, but overall, it's why we have a big

Raquel:

team is because, okay, if there's an emergency, then somebody else can fill in.

Raquel:

But it is like you, this is your wedding.

Raquel:

That's what like the girls know.

Raquel:

This is not, this is not their wedding.

Raquel:

This is your wedding.

Raquel:

You cannot miss this.

Raquel:

You cannot not show up.

Raquel:

Hair and makeup can't not show up.

Raquel:

Can you imagine?

Raquel:

And

Sydney:

I

Raquel:

getting

Sydney:

can imagine, but also

Raquel:

if anyone from hair and makeup is listening to this, I don't know what's

Raquel:

going on in our industry, but people aren't getting back to their clients.

Raquel:

They're ghosting them.

Raquel:

And that's like terrible.

Anika:

Yeah.

Anika:

Cause you're giving, you're, you're giving a sour taste of

Anika:

all hair and makeup artists.

Anika:

They think that

Raquel:

it's like going to be, it's going to happen with everybody and it

Raquel:

never will happen with Glam2Go ever.

Raquel:

So when someone begs me to be available, we like make it work.

Raquel:

Cause I feel so bad for people that their hairstylist goes to them

Raquel:

and their wedding's in a month.

Anika:

What you going to do?

Sydney:

god.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Sydney:

insane.

Sydney:

That's insane.

Raquel:

crazy.

Raquel:

I don't know.

Raquel:

I don't know what happens if people just decide they don't want

Raquel:

to do it or whatever, but yeah.

Raquel:

I've been a ton

Anika:

last year too.

Raquel:

This year has happened even more.

Raquel:

This year has been wild.

Sydney:

Wow.

Sydney:

That's nuts.

Sydney:

I mean, are you getting like a reason why?

Sydney:

Or are people just like, like,

Raquel:

No, they're just literally ghosting them.

Sydney:

god, that's horrible.

Raquel:

mean, it's like kind of good for us, but because we never do that.

Sydney:

Yeah.

Raquel:

But

Sydney:

Wow.

Raquel:

crazy.

Raquel:

So if you're in the industry, don't do that.

Raquel:

And then you'll be successful.

Sydney:

Absolutely.

Sydney:

Yeah, absolutely.

Sydney:

So I have a, I have a fun question.

Sydney:

So this is, this is one of my, my favorite ones that to talk about.

Sydney:

Cause you know, it's kind of like the goal of the podcast is

Sydney:

reaching our sexy money goals.

Sydney:

So what is your sexy money goal right now?

Anika:

Our sexy money goal.

Anika:

So Raquel and I would love to be able to buy a home in Florida.

Anika:

Actually right where Raquel got married, right?

Anika:

And be able to have it for our family and be able to just have like a

Anika:

home base and a vacation home and I don't do Glam2Go retreats there.

Sydney:

Yeah.

Anika:

that would be our sexy money goal.

Raquel:

Definitely.

Sydney:

It's awesome.

Sydney:

That's awesome.

Sydney:

Yeah.

Kristen:

As I'm listening to my kids scream outside the store, I'm like, I

Kristen:

need to go to a Florida home by myself.

Kristen:

Like, can I climb out this window?

Kristen:

I'm going to drop down into the bushes and just drive to the airport.

Sydney:

You don't need a

Anika:

They're not that loud.

Raquel:

It's just mom.

Raquel:

It's

Kristen:

Oh my god, it sounds like they're being tortured.

Kristen:

I'm sorry.

Sydney:

You can't, I can't hear them at all, so you're good.

Kristen:

Great.

Kristen:

I'll drive to your house next week.

Kristen:

We can just do it from there.

Kristen:

Anyways.

Kristen:

Yeah, that's awesome.

Kristen:

So how far away do you feel like you are from your

Anika:

I don't know, ask Sydney.

Kristen:

Sydney, how far are they from their sexy money goal?

Sydney:

The business is doing great.

Sydney:

We just put it into action.

Sydney:

I guess it probably depends on, uh, there's a lot of variables to the house.

Sydney:

How close to the water do we want to be?

Kristen:

Very close.

Sydney:

There's a, there's a couple variables that we could look at, but yeah,

Sydney:

I mean, we can, we can plan it all out and, you know, to go with that, anybody

Sydney:

else that's looking to, to plan their sexy money to go and to like get it, you know,

Sydney:

pen to paper, Like make a budget for it.

Sydney:

What's the, you know, what's the purchase price of the house?

Sydney:

What's the down payment?

Sydney:

You can use it as an Airbnb, so you can get rental income off for a little bit.

Sydney:

You don't have to do it forever, but is that something you'd be interested in?

Sydney:

And there's a lot of ways to get it faster than you think.

Sydney:

So we can absolutely plan

Raquel:

Stay tuned, next episode.

Raquel:

From the beach house.

Kristen:

that would be

Raquel:

With all four of you there.

Raquel:

No kids.

Sydney:

Oh my gosh.

Sydney:

And then we can have meetings there

Raquel:

Yes.

Sydney:

it's a business expense.

Kristen:

Yeah.

Raquel:

Love it.

Anika:

I will,

Sydney:

I think I do need my assistant

Kristen:

think you do.

Kristen:

I will carry your suitcase and your sunglasses.

Anika:

we request

Raquel:

the assistant.

Sydney:

You just carry my, uh, my vitamins and medicines, you know, it's

Anika:

Yeah.

Kristen:

so I'll just put them in your mouth, like, every couple hours.

Kristen:

Oh, God.

Kristen:

Okay.

Sydney:

that's awesome.

Sydney:

That's cool.

Sydney:

That is great.

Sydney:

So you have, do you guys have any recommendations or any advice that

Sydney:

you would give to new business owners or, or not necessarily new, but just

Sydney:

anybody that's looking for advice, what would be the advice you would give?

Sydney:

Doesn't have to be finance related, but if you have

Raquel:

would say to have courage, have courage and go for it.

Raquel:

I feel like maybe people get stuck and then quit.

Raquel:

And if it's something that you love, I say it every time I'm at a wedding

Raquel:

on a Saturday and they're like, don't you hate working on Saturdays?

Raquel:

I'm like, no, I've been doing it forever and I love it.

Raquel:

I love what I do.

Raquel:

So, nope.

Raquel:

I love being there.

Raquel:

most, if not all of our clients are so spectacular that it's so exciting.

Raquel:

Like, I feel like I'm getting married.

Raquel:

Like, that's why when I got married, I was like, I don't need the big thing.

Raquel:

Cause I do it every week.

Raquel:

Cause it was just, that's how I feel.

Raquel:

I feel like we're a part of it.

Raquel:

So that's special.

Raquel:

Yeah.

Raquel:

Go for it.

Raquel:

I would just say, go for it.

Raquel:

If it's something that you really want, that you have passion

Raquel:

for, that you love, Go for it.

Raquel:

That would be my advice.

Raquel:

And we still work our asses off.

Raquel:

We still, every day, you know, we're going on a podcast.

Raquel:

What, what the heck is this podcast about?

Sydney:

Yep.

Sydney:

Love it.

Raquel:

love it.

Raquel:

Keep going,

Anika:

do things, go to everything, go to every networking event, say yes to things.

Anika:

Raquel and I said yes to everything.

Anika:

And we did a ton of stuff.

Anika:

I mean, I don't know if this is the best advice, but like for free.

Anika:

Right.

Anika:

If it's an opportunity and they're asking you to come, you do it, you make it work.

Anika:

And I think owning your owning a business, like you have a

Anika:

lot of days where you're like,

Anika:

is it worth it?

Anika:

Like you have a lot of hard days, but you just got to go to sleep and

Anika:

wake up the next day and start fresh.

Anika:

And you know, you're controlling your own destiny, which I think

Anika:

is like the most amazing thing that you can do in your life.

Raquel:

Your

Sydney:

I love it.

Sydney:

Yes.

Sydney:

I love it.

Kristen:

It's

Raquel:

Can we go this way?

Anika:

Yeah, keep texting.

Anika:

Online.

Anika:

Just laugh at all

Kristen:

We do laugh a lot.

Kristen:

It's like hysterical laughing, like where you cry a little bit

Kristen:

and then you're just like, okay.

Sydney:

Makes it fun.

Sydney:

I mean, that's what makes it all worth it.

Sydney:

It really does.

Sydney:

If you can't find the joy in it and you can't be lit up by what

Sydney:

you're doing, there are so many other things out there that you can.

Raquel:

Correct.

Sydney:

Yeah.

Sydney:

Yeah.

Sydney:

And you can see that you guys really enjoy what you're doing.

Sydney:

And thank you for taking more time out of your evening to be with us and to

Raquel:

we got to hang

Sydney:

share your story.

Sydney:

And it's awesome.

Sydney:

I mean, we're really excited to have you guys on the podcast and really

Sydney:

excited to work with you both.

Sydney:

And, and truly like it's, it's such a joy.

Sydney:

You can tell what you guys are doing is important to you and that your

Sydney:

clients love it too and love you guys.

Sydney:

So, so do your service providers.

Kristen:

I just met you and I love you both.

Anika:

You're so funny, I want to hang.

Anika:

There

Kristen:

makeup on people because that's how I fall asleep at night.

Kristen:

I get on Instagram and I watch people cut hair and do makeup

Kristen:

and it makes me like calm.

Anika:

you go.

Kristen:

So that's super weird.

Kristen:

Anyways, if people that are listening want to find you, where

Kristen:

can they find you on Instagram?

Anika:

So they can find us at underscore, underscore, glam2go, underscore.

Anika:

And then for studio, it's at glam2go, studio.

Raquel:

And the studio is a full service hair salon.

Raquel:

So we don't, we didn't talk much about that, but we do any type of hair you want.

Raquel:

We do waxing.

Raquel:

We do brow laminations.

Raquel:

We give the best shampoo and blow dry you'll ever have.

Raquel:

You don't have to go to a head spa, come to Glam2Go and you'll get the

Raquel:

best head massage of your life.

Raquel:

Oh,

Sydney:

on, yeah.

Sydney:

Are you guys available,

Kristen:

brain hurts.

Kristen:

Can I go?

Anika:

over.

Sydney:

I don't have hot water at this house yet, so I might need

Kristen:

You need a scalp massage.

Kristen:

I mean, I'll do it, but I feel like we would do it better.

Sydney:

That is awesome.

Kristen:

I love you guys.

Kristen:

That was so much fun.

Kristen:

Thank you.

Kristen:

Are

Raquel:

you guys.
