“Don’t be afraid of what will happen to you if you live for Christ” - Wesleyne
Matthew 10:28:
Don't be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
In this verse, Jesus provides a profound teaching to His disciples as He prepares them for their mission. Addressing the real and imminent threats they would face, He contrasts the temporal power of humans with the eternal authority of God. While humans can harm the physical body, their reach is limited to the earthly realm. Jesus underscores the transient nature of earthly suffering, juxtaposing it against the eternal consequences of the soul. This teaching serves as a reminder of the impermanence of earthly life and challenges believers to adopt an eternal perspective.
Today, you will learn the fundamental Christian principle of the eternal significance of the soul over the temporal state of the body. The emphasis is on where one should place their fears and priorities. Earthly adversaries, no matter how powerful, can only inflict temporary harm. However, the state of one's soul and its standing with God holds eternal consequences. Thus, the teaching encourages you to remain steadfast in your faith, even in the face of persecution or threat, understanding that your ultimate allegiance should be to God, who holds power over both the temporal and eternal realms.
