00:00 Nathan
Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
4 And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.
Solomon. Proverbs 3:3, 4. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 2 of 30 Days of Wisdom with the wise King Solomon. Mercy and truth a powerful duo. Mercy is a love that is enduring, kind, unmovable. Truth brings to this duo an added sense of dependability, certainty. These twin attributes are of such an essential quality that God has used them to describe his own, beautiful character. In fact, those who live by Mercy and Truth, are especially dear to the heart of God—and endear the hearts of their fellow human beings. Mercy. Being patient, kind, compassionate--even when it costs, maybe costs dearly. It is that capacity that choses to love regardless of the merit or worth of the object of its love. It infuses its object with value. And truth. You might have heard someone say, “I just tell it like it is.” That’s not the idea here. Solomon is here describing the attribute of certainty, dependability, faithfulness. A person who’s word can be counted on—even to their disadvantage. One who guards the best interest of others. You’d find them no different in private than on social media or the public stage. They have integrity.
