Unplugging from the hectic pace of life seems like a fantasy to many men today. They think things will slow down one day, but they often don't.  The truth for us as men is If we want to win in the long term we have to learn to unplug. Unplugging isn't just sitting on our couch and doing nothing. Unplugging is dealing with the busyness of life in intentional ways so we don't burn out. Unplugging will keep us at the top of our game as men in every area of our life.

Busyness Excuses

  • We are busy!
  • We often brag about our busyness to others like it is a badge of honor
  • Busyness can also be a security blanket that brings comfort to us
  • We stay busy because it makes us feel important and gives us a sense of productivity
  • Men want to feel productive and busyness helps to fit that need
  • We have to get honest about how busy we are
  • Men who are intentional about their busyness and controlling it will be men who stay fresh for the long run

Inward Journey Realities

  • Downtime can mean reflection
  • Inner dialogue can be challenging for men
  • We beat ourselves up for the "should have " moments in our life
  • We have to remember that reflection adds meaning to our life
  • We reflect on our purpose and if we are living it
  • We reflect on our schedule and if we are doing too much
  • We reflect on our motivations and inner attitudes
  • The inward journey is something that adds depth and richness to our lives as men
  • The inward journey takes courage

Unplugging Tips

  • Unplugging doesn't happen by accident
  • There are different ways to unplug based on our personality and the realities of our life
  • We can get ideas from other men, but we need to implement them in our life in a way that works
  • Rest is unplugging
  • Physical activity is a way to unplug
  • Vacations
  • Solo deep thinking retreats
  • Our long-term success as men is dependent on our ability to unplug
