Have You Crucified Your Old Life?

By Tammy Lacock

“But ye have not so learned Christ.” (Ephesians 4:20 KJV)

In Ephesians 4, Part 2, Warren Litzman delves deeper into Paul’s message in Ephesians 4:20 that learning Christ means living Christ as our new life. Christ now lives in us and wants to be our very life but do we even know that? Once we come to the revelation of Christ as our life, the Holy Spirit comes in and renews and changes our minds. In our minds, we are holding on to an old life that is no longer necessary as Christians, or Christ persons. It doesn’t mean we give up our professions or studies but we crucify our old ways of thinking, our old minds, and allow the Holy Spirit to do his most important work of teaching us Christ, the Christ that is now in us. We must give our minds over to Christ so he can now come through us.

Through Paul’s epistles and the work of the Holy Spirit we begin to stop participating and living with the Satan nature that began with Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden. We are free of this sinful nature by the blood of Jesus Christ. As believers, this Satan nature is exchanged with Christ’s nature and we become “new creations” in Christ.

As we grow up in Christ and learn Him, we begin to understand what Paul states so explicitly in Galatians 2:20 (KJV) “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

And in Romans 6:6 (KJV), “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”

Out with the old and in with the New! That’s the Christ Life!
