This episode kicks off a new series called “The Water We Grew Up In.” The series examines aspects of White supremacy and patriarchy that even we progressives don't generally notice because they are so fully integrated into the systems of our daily lives. We're like fish in water. We're talking about the sorts of intolerance that are more subtle and seem more innocuous than the caricatures of hate reflected in organizations like the KKK and the GOP.
In this inaugural episode, Liz identifies the ways in which we've all been indoctrinated by patriarchal myths of romance, and the damage that results.
