Hey there, Writing Pursuits Authors, thank you for tuning in today to the trailer for the Writing Pursuits Podcast. 

As you heard in the intro, the main topics of writing pursuits include writing craft, which is pretty self-descriptive, with topics like characterization, point of view, pacing, tension and so on. 

We're also going to talk about author life which will cover topics around mindset overcoming writer's block and work/life balance. And finally, you will cover book marketing strategies because what's the point of getting a book published if nobody gets to read it?  

The podcast is for the late bloomer. The author, who isn't full time. The busy person who writes in the fringes. And anyone else who wants to write professionally. 

I don't mean full time. Many people love their chosen profession but want to write books too. That is perfectly OK.  

I myself did not begin writing fiction seriously until about 2007. When I had already entered my 40s up to that point. I had been a systems engineer at EDS, a consultant at DRT Consulting, a real estate agent, and a middle school ESL reading teacher. 

By that time, my eldest daughter was finishing up her senior year of high school, and I challenged her to do NaNoWriMo with me. We stuck to writing longhand in spiral notebooks. I have no idea why. 

Sadly, neither of us completed the 50,000-word challenge, but I was completely hooked. 

I filled notebook after notebook with my meandering plot, but finally in 2014, I found a critique partner-- a very good critique partner--who pushed me through the door marked “author.” 

I published the first book in a Series A whopping 120,000-word epic fantasy adventure. 

So far, there are six books in my series, and my readers are breathing threats down my neck lest I leave the series uncompleted.  

Along the way, I joined various editing organizations, took a bunch of courses, and became a freelance editor to support my writing habit. I specialize in editing fiction because I love it so, so much. 

Two years later I started putting out a newsletter for my editing clients called Word Marker Tips for Authors, and when I reached Issue #100 recently, I decided to dip into the waters of podcasting because at last I had to admit to myself, I'm a nonfiction author too. So here I am with you. 

In case you're wondering, this podcast will be a mixture of solo episodes and interviews airing on Wednesdays, at least for this season. 

There's a brand-new Facebook group where it is okay to ask any writing related question. The link will be in the show notes. Writing Pursuits Author Community
