Shownotes

Because of all the changes happening in our industry, the way we used to do things as agents, brokerages and teams doesn’t cut it anymore. How are consumers, agents and brokers getting affected by the all the changes? How do we have to think about scaling our businesses in an era where the consumer expects more from us? How can we build a world-class client experience that meets the demands of the market? On this episode, Chris Heller shares his insights on the state of real estate industry drawing from his 30+ years as a successful team leader, former CEO of Keller Williams, and current CEO of melloHome.

As agents, we absolutely have to provide an experience that is consistent with or exceeds what our expectations are as consumers. -Chris Heller

3 Things We Learned From This Episode

  • The levels of change hitting real estate (07:08 - 10:37 )

There are three areas of change taking place in our industry at the agent level, brokerage level and the consumer level. The change is being driven by new players and models who think they can do the job better than we do. If we don’t up our game, we will get replaced.

  • The Amazon effect and what it means for real estate (08:00 - 08:39)

Because of the speed at which people shop online and generally live their lives, consumers now have new expectations. They have standards on how quick, easy, transparent and predictable a process should be. We have to be able to anticipate this, build it into our services, and provide it before it’s asked for.

  • Why teams are such a huge trend (17:21 - 18:54)

More and more agents are joining teams, and this trend is being driven by necessity. Today’s consumer expects a lot from the real estate experience, and a solo agent simply won’t be able to provide what’s required. Agents are able to do a lot more if they get into a system that helps them maximize on dollar-productive activities.

At every level of our business, there are forces making it necessary for us to shift and move at the same pace as the transaction. Agents have to be willing to leverage a lot more so they can be quick in how they respond to and serve the consumer. Brokers and teams have to employ resources like technology so that they can survive through the phase of fragmentation that’s coming down the pipeline. In a nutshell, we have to evolve to keep going.
