Remember when boarding the dog meant dropping him off, paying a few bucks a day, and heading out of town? Now there are rising nightly rates, vaccine records, Bordetella requirements, canine flu questions, and enough paperwork to make you wonder when your dog started needing his own travel department.

Some of those precautions have legitimate reasons behind them. But it raises a bigger question about how we make decisions when fear and skepticism are both competing for our attention. Do we automatically say yes because something sounds risky, or automatically assume someone is taking advantage of us? Maybe wisdom starts by slowing down long enough to ask: what’s actually necessary here?

Scripture (NIV): Proverbs 14:15 – “The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.”

Reflection Questions:

When something is presented as necessary, do you tend to accept it quickly or become suspicious of it?

How can we ask better questions without letting fear or cynicism make the decision for us?
